Jan 21, 2011To start, I am a new web developer. I have been writing C# for about a year, but just recently learning web development. I wrote an application that connects to a MySql database and when I run it on my localhost it wokrs great! I created a ubuntu server on amazon ec2 and it is hosting my MySql server. It is up and running just fine. I created a windows 2008 server instance on amazon ec2 to host my asp.net project. I published my project to my windows server and I went to my public IP address and my site was there! it was so easy...
However, when I went to login, I recieved this error: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.3.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I made sure the correct connector was installed on ym server. I have the most recent mysql connector installed. I do not know how the publish actually works. I saw some forum posts that said maybe I was missing DLLs from my bin directory but I cannot even find my bin directory for my project on the server. I also saw some posts about changing the web config file, but that was gibberish to me at this level.

Mar 11, 2010I'm trying create unit testing for an existing website project (not web application project). I cannot access my under test classes unless I use accessor. However, if I use accessor, I have problem to initiate an object with passing arguments. I only want to create unit tetsing for App_Code. After searching web, and I found that I'd better to create a web application project using my current existing website project. From solution explorer, add new project ->using existing website. My questions is: what impact will have for my current website to create the new project? Should I just convert my current website to web application? If do that, will it cuase problems on my website? I am new on asp.net, still learning..

Jul 25, 2010I'm creating a shopping cart from scratch. I've created a catalog of various products and item detail pages which are linked to the database via a "SqlDataSource". Now I'm trying to install an add to cart button, and here's where I'm encountering problems...In the codebehind of the page I have the button event set up and working, it changes a label to say the item has been added. I add a MySQL connection using the namespace below:

Next I change the button event code to something similar to the following:

When I build it, it says that it can't locate the mysql namespaces and gives me an CS0246 error four times. The files who which it is referring are in the bin folder of the project and I have the files linked to the project via the web.config file.I thought maybe it just needs to be uploaded, but when I upload the files as is, the button doesn't do anything - the button will make the label display whatever was in the last successful build.

The select * from department will work perfectly for me but when trying to use parameters i am given an error message on the wizard. select * from department where name = @name gives me the error: Error in where clause near '@' unable to parse query text. also tried select * from department where name = ?: this gives me the error: No mapping exists from dbTypeObject to a known Odbc type.

I am using above ConnectionString to communicate with database. To make it work, I have to store password (don't want to do that) in session and use it every time I need to talk to db.
1) Is there any other connection string without username and password with oledb?
2) I use "Integrated Security" for MSSQL. How can I use the same with OLEDB - Oracle database?

Jun 9, 2010I am using microsoft enterprise libarary to connect to mysql using mysql .net connector (latest version 6.2.3)
But i am facing a problem of too many connections and connection pool reached maximum limit issue.
As connection is disposed by enterprise library iteself so i dont close the connection anywhere.
So after two or three hours i found i have 100 mysql connections in sleep mode which are doing nothing and are not being reused from the code .
So i want to ask is there any issue with my code or is there any issue with mysql connector

CMS/E-commerce .net Project : One Database Or Multiple Databases?
Mar 31, 2010I'm currently working on an C#/ASP.NET project that will host several differents e-commerce websites, all running in the same application.I use LinqToSql (moving to PLINQO soon) to access my database. The database contains both informations on the website structure (pages, ...) and the products/orders/users data.
My question is, should I use only one database for all the websites, or sould I create a new database (same model) for every new website?I'm now using a single database (with SiteIDs in some tables) but I have a big security concern, I can't just backup/restore the database for ONE website if something goes wrong (e.g. somebody erase all the products on ONE website) and it's an important requirment of the application.
So I was wondering what are the good practices in that case? Is there big cons if splitting dbs?(I would have to make changes to several database instead of one in case of structural changes, but i guess i can make a db version/update system).How the existing CRMs are dealing with that?Is it a performance problem if a database server host a lot of different DataBases? A complex backup/restore tool would be better?
Subquestion:To make a website replication easy, I can also split the pure CMS data (Pages, Texts, ...) in one DB and the e-commerce data (products/categories/orders in another). It can be achieved by some select/insert functions but it would be easier by just copying a database of course.

Jan 14, 2011I am trying to write a page to read the Excel file provided by the user. I know I can't use the FileUpload to get the full path of the file from the client PC. This give me the problem when I write the connection string for the Excel file:

Without the full path, I can't replace the Data Source by a variable and I definitely can't assume all users will have their Excel files named Book1.xls located in C:Doc all the time.
