Databases :: Connection Polling And Connection Not Working With Oracle?
May 31, 2010I am new in Asp.net with Oracle and not build proper connection in it.

View 2 RepliesI am currently working on the connection between ASP.NET and Oracle. I tried to search over the net and know there are many ways. Is there any 'normal practice' on which method to be used? Or it depends?

I am connecting to Oracle database from .net using OLEDB.
My Connection string :
[Code]....
I am using above ConnectionString to communicate with database. To make it work, I have to store password (don't want to do that) in session and use it every time I need to talk to db.
1) Is there any other connection string without username and password with oledb?
2) I use "Integrated Security" for MSSQL. How can I use the same with OLEDB - Oracle database?
string sConnectionString = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;"
I am starting a new project where I have to use oracle and asp.net. Oracle 11 enterprise edition. Problem is oracle database reside in linux server and application server is in windows. My question is1. Is there any problem connecting oracle from asp.net?

I am executing a long-running Oracle stored procedure from .NET. The procedure takes about three hours to run. Ideally, the user should be able to kick off the procedure, close the browser, and come back later to check the results.
The problem is that the connection to the Oracle procedure is lost after exactly an hour. As you would expect, the Oracle procedre runs to completion if it is executed from SQL Plus. Strangely enough, it will also run to completion if I run in debug mode on my local machine (I start two threads, one of which executes the procedure. I set a breakpoint on the second thread).
Here is my connection string:
data source= (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=serverx)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=TestSID)))
Some relevant sections from web.config:
<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="3000" stateNetworkTimeout="72000"/>
<httpRuntime executionTimeout="18000" maxRequestLength="2097151" />
Any thoughts as to why the connection is being lost in exactly an hour, and what I can do to maintain the connection until the procedure finishes?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.
we are facing a big problem while running our website on the production server. We decided to start using the connection pool. we added these statments to AppSettings section at the configuration file to provide the connection information to the DataAccess Layer class to access our Oracle Database.
<appSettings>

I want to setup a DB connection from aspx page and not from aspx.vb.
View 1 RepliesWe have been getting this Oracle connection pool exception a lot recently for our ASP.NET website. This is the detailed exception message:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.
This is our connection string
User ID=user1;password=password1;DATA SOURCE=Datasource1
how to set max pool size to 1 so that I can debug it on my local?
what is the recommended pool size for a website with 10,000 users?
I'm following this link [URL] to create a website and configure membership. I'm at the Configuring Membership section and try to use ASP.NET Configuration's Security tab. It has options for connecting to SQL server only. How can I configure it to connect to Oracle database? I want to create webparts and the instructions say it needs SQL server Express. I have VS2010 which comes with SQL Server 2008. I think that is even better. All my applications are using Oracle database.

View 1 RepliesI did all the instructions which are in the following link: [URL] in order to do a connection between MySQL database and ASP.NET but I did not successed. Sometimes, it told me that I have a mistake in the <asp: button> and sometimes it told me that I did a mistake in calling (addImage) method. And this is my whole code:-
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="HW5._Default" %>
<script>
public class DataAccess
{
private string _strConn =
@"Driver= {MySQLODBC 3.51 Driver};SERVER=localhost;DATABASE=test1;";
private OdbcConnection _objConn;
public DataAccess()
{
this._objConn = new OdbcConnection(this._strConn);
}
// This function adds the Images to database
public string addImage(timestamp id, byte [] data,string extension)
{
string strSql = "SELECT * FROM File";
DataSet ds = new DataSet("Image");
OdbcDataAdapter tempAP = new OdbcDataAdapter(strSql,this._objConn);
OdbcCommandBuilder objCommand = new OdbcCommandBuilder(tempAP);
tempAP.Fill(ds,"Table");
try
{
this._objConn.Open();
DataRow objNewRow = ds.Tables["Table"].NewRow();
objNewRow["Extension"] = extension;
objNewRow["Data"] = buffer;
objNewRow["ID"] = id;
ds.Tables["Table"].Rows.Add(objNewRow);
// trying to update the table to add the image
tempAP.Update(ds,"Table");

I previously used a datasource and a connection string to connect to my database on sql server and all orked fine. The connection string was saved in my web.config file and is: ....
View 1 RepliesI am using VS2008 and oracle 10g ODP.Net. The oracle database that I used in the connection is working and tested it using sql plus.The connection string when used in a GriDView works perfectly. Now when I created a new listview control with the same connection it gives an error.Database schema could not be retrieved for this connection. Please make sure connection settings are correct and the database is online

In my DAL i have more than 100 methods/Function, each and every method am opening the sqlconnection and closing the connection, this is taking too much of time to establish the connection at every time. So what i expect is one common class will create the SqlConnection that will check if the connection is Broken or Closed then create the connection again else return the connection, how to do this(Also i would like to apply ConnectionPooling).

View 1 RepliesI'm creating a shopping cart from scratch. I've created a catalog of various products and item detail pages which are linked to the database via a "SqlDataSource". Now I'm trying to install an add to cart button, and here's where I'm encountering problems...In the codebehind of the page I have the button event set up and working, it changes a label to say the item has been added. I add a MySQL connection using the namespace below:
[Code]....
Next I change the button event code to something similar to the following:
[Code]....
When I build it, it says that it can't locate the mysql namespaces and gives me an CS0246 error four times. The files who which it is referring are in the bin folder of the project and I have the files linked to the project via the web.config file.I thought maybe it just needs to be uploaded, but when I upload the files as is, the button doesn't do anything - the button will make the label display whatever was in the last successful build.
Although the below connection string works for Select, Insert and Delete functions I can't get to work with Update.
Returns error 'unable to connect to MySQL hosts'
Sub Edit (sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
Dim myConnection As MySqlConnection[code]...
I have fried a multitude of combinations, also from MySQL site without success.
