Deploying SharePoint Layout Assembly Into GAC?

I'm currently rewriting a legacy SharePoint application and I need to figure out how to deploy it. The application itself is SharePoint solution with several features, including webparts and simple web pages with some code.
There is a webpage that is designed to be deployed in layouts subfolder. In production environment, there is no codebehind in layouts subdirectory, just the .aspx file.
I understand that corresponding codebehind assembly is loaded from GAC. Indeed, it is there. However the page code doesn't contain <%@ Assembly %> directive that would ask it look in GAC, nor does it specify fully-qualified name:

So how does this page locate its code assembly in the production environment? I need to deploy the same code to a different server but if I don't specify <%@ Assembly %> SharePoint gives me Unknown Error, which is represented in logs as follows:

I've been working on a project that's been a rather seat-of-the-pants experience. We have MOSS 2007 and Silverlight 3 installed. We're trying to make use of some new 3rd party software, Visual Fusion([URL] While working through the tutorial I ran into a bit of an issue. A client of mine uses SharePoint to manage its websites, and recently asked me to build a small website for them using ASP.NET, which they would then implement via SharePoint.My skills with ASP.NET are intermediate, and I have no experience at all with SharePoint.I created a master page for the site, as well as the individual pages, but the client is telling me that they also need a page layout template in order to view and manage the site via SharePoint.

Well,at http://www.mail-archive.com/mono-bugs@lists.ximian.com/msg71529.html they say the work around is to create a global policy assembly and redirect the assemblies that way since it is not read from the web.config.
How do you actually do what they describe there? There is a huge documentation gap in that area with Mono.Also,I can't just recompile the assembly to use the new Mono assembly versions because the assembly is closed source.(but it does work with Mono.)

I am using XAMPP to publish my a .net application. The server is working fine. I created a sample login.aspx file, and it works fine. I have deployed a custom SharePoint Web service on Farm A. I am trying to access this Web service from a SharePoint timer job on Farm B. On Farm B, I am creating Class Library project, packaging it (wsp) and then deploying to GAC. The problem is I'm unable to access the Web Service using the following code. Before using any class in your website project/page we have to add it's assembly reference to our project. Right?
Now, when I am using SmtpClient class from System.Net assembly after adding the System.Net.Mail namespace in namespace node of application's web.config file but without adding assembly reference to the project, it still accepting and running the code. Why?
I enquired the machine's web.config file located at C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIG but didnt find assembly reference for System.Net there also.
So bit confused how it is working and where the assembly reference has been added and how?

I just want to create Shared Assembly and use that assembly in our application.I am using VS 2005.
Step 1
I am trying to build a dll.
Create class library project <TestDllHell>.
Under that project add CalculationArea.cs file.
[Code]....
Then TestDllHell.dll add into GAC successfully.
Now I want to use it in my Website project so did the following steps but unable to view that dll in .Net Reference List Box.
•I go for Run regedit to edit the Windows Registry.
•Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft.NETFrameworkAssemblyFolders key.
•Right click on the AssemblyFolders key, then select New > Key. Enter the name of your assembly (without the .dll extension).
•Double click on the key's (Default) value. The Edit String dialog will appear. Enter the full path of the folder where your assembly resides. Note that all assemblies in that folder will appear in the Visual Studio list.
•IMPORTANT! You must exit and restart Visual Studio to see your assembly in the Add Reference dialog.
My question is that
How can I get that dll in my add reference assembly List .Net section?
And if I modify that dll(TestDllHell.dll) then again register in GAC then version will be different,So how can I told my client application that which dll you choose?

I am new in web development and I am designing a web based application now a days. This is my semester project and as well as my first web application. I was trying to deploy an asp web app over to a different server and when I ran the .msi setup I got the error:
Setup requires Internet Information Server 4.0 or higher and Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or higher...
Now its obvious that it has version 6.0 since windows server 2003 is installed, do you have why this is happening or should I just move my entire application with code over? My database has already successfully been installed on this server and just need the app to be deployed to this server.

Used Visual Studio 2008 to publish web app to a local IIS7 Website but still hooked to VS development .mdf file with EF. With this I can successfully access web app via local host. As long as the development db server is running, web access is fine.
Then I tried to change connection to local .SQLEXPRESS where I have other databases (this is my production server). I have replicated the development data into the SQLExpress database already. The connection string appears OK.
The problem is the application's entity data model (.edmx file) is still tied to the development .mdf file.
When I tried to rebuild the entity data model, I can see the production instance in list of db connections but cannot select it. Only the development db objects are available.
So I don't think the problem is related to connecting to the production db. It is more about getting the .edmx file to point to the production table. Either it should migrate over or it needs to be rebuilt. I don't see any MVC deployment pages discussing EF deployments.

We have an application built on ASP.NET MVC 1.0 which, once deployed, should be accessed with HTTPS. I tried few approaches for HTTPS but I have a few questions.:My home page does not need to be Secured (HTTPS), but rest of the hyperlinks following it will be Secured.I read about the action method attribute [requiresHTTPS] however I want to understand what happens to that tag during development on local machine. In a development enviroment, how do I install a certificate on a dev machine/virtual directory to code and test my changes.So this application is complex in nature and we have around 13 controllers and 50 action methods. This application will have information like Credit card numbers since we do accept payment through this website.
