Unable To Call The SharePoint Custom Web Service From Another SharePoint Farm
Jan 12, 2011
I have deployed a custom SharePoint Web service on Farm A. I am trying to access this Web service from a SharePoint timer job on Farm B. On Farm B, I am creating Class Library project, packaging it (wsp) and then deploying to GAC. The problem is I'm unable to access the Web Service using the following code. TodaysNewSVC is a service reference
TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite objGetNews = new TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite();
objGetNews.PreAuthenticate = true;
objGetNews.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
objGetNews.Url = "http://insite-dev.portal/_vti_bin/todaysnews.asmx";
DataTable dt2 = objGetNews.getNewsFromInsite(true, true);
//getNewsFromInsite is a WebMethod which returns the DataTable.
Note: Both farms use the same active directory authentication. I have also done the debugging for Timer Job and feature activation and they are working fine. The problem occurs during the call i.e. getNewsFromInsite
The asmx and wsdl files are accessible from Internet Explorer and also from Windows Console application. Here is the code which I use from console application:
GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient objWSClient = new GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient();
objWSClient.ClientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials;[code]...
Here is the error message:The request failed with the error message:

I want to create a custom web part in SharePoint 2007 that allows me to take items from an existing custom list (i.e. Title, Hyperlink, Description and photo) and then render it in a format of my choice. How can I do this using C# asp.net and a web part?

I would love to have some guidance in this topic and we didn't really where to place this question.One of our clients is asking us to create a web page, embedded in a system we are about to start building, to be able to do some document versioning, he needs that the application would be able to store documents and keep their history, this is simple if we try something like subversion, CVS..etc, but he needs that the application masks (no matter the underlying service, Subversion, CVS or even sharepoint) all that things under the hood. So, he wants that the web page could do something like sharepoint or subversion does.

Ive integrated a custom asp.net web application into a Sharepoint site by creating a virual directory, that contains my web app files, that points to a directory in the Sharepoint inetpub folder.
On my local dev server I can access all my web app pages just fine by typing in /virtualdirectoryname/page.aspx
My Problem is that: When I deploy to my Live Test server that is internet facing, none of the pages that make a MS-Access database call will work.
The Error I receive is '[SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.]'
I have researched the issue online and tried numerous solutions which include giving all the assemblies in my application a strong name, and modifying the security policy to trust this strong name.
My Custom Web App consists of 2 projects
1. A Class Library Project (Data Layer)
2. A Web Application Project (Web Layer)
My .mdb database file is stored at root level within the Virtual Directory.
I have 1 class in the Data Layer (ClassConnect.cs) that when instantiated, creates the ODBC connection for all other pages to use (OdbcConnection dbConn = new OdbcConnection();)
I have a Connection String stored in the web.config file that is as such. When I deploy to the Live Test Server I change the path in this connection string, because I haven't figured out yet how to get a relative path that works.
I also place the dll's for my 2 projects in the Sharepoint bin folder.
Could anyone suggest what might be the dfference between my Local Dev Server and the Live Test Server and why I might be getting these errors.

"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized"
I use the following code to call the SharePoint webservice

My web.config settings are:

The Sharepoint farm is configured to use NTLM authentication.
Strangely everything works when I am testing in Visual Studio using the builtin webservice, but when I deply to my local IIS or Test Server it breaks.

I have a custom master page that I use in WSS3.0 (SharePoint 2007) and I am using a HTML 'DOC TYPE' which I am declaring at the top of the master page. The site all works very well with my master page apart from some of SharePoint controls which are acting a little funny, namely the People Picker for a People and Group field.If I remove the DOC TYPE declaration then the People Picker and other controls work perfectly and behave as they should but it sends some of my customisations/layout all over.
Before I spend a lot of time reviewing fixing the issues I get to my design without having the DOC TYPE declared, does anyone know if there is a certain DOC TYPE that is compatible with WSS3.0 / SharePoint 2007 and all of its features (i.e. People Picker Fields)?

I am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.

I want to build a custom document management web application that ties in with sharepoint for the actual document versioning and storage. I'm hoping for something like a sharepoint widget that I can plug into my web application that would allow me to tie in with sharepoint and download documents, make edits to them, and upload them back to sharepoint, with sharepoint handling all of the versioning and storage. Basically I'm looking for a sharepoint API. If WSS is the answer to this, are there licensing issues that I need to consider?

We have created an ASP.NET web app that upload files to WSS Doc Libary. The files get added under 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT' in the library. The FullTextSqlQuery class is used to search the document libary items. But it only searches files that has been uploaded by a windows user account like 'Administrator' and ignores the ones uploaded by 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT'. As a result the search results are empty even though we have the necessary data in the document library. What could be the reason for this?
The code is given below:
public static List GetListItemsFromFTSQuery(string searchText)
{
string docLibUrl = "http://localhost:6666/Articles%20Library/Forms/AllItems.aspx";
List items = new List();
DataTable retResults = new DataTable();
SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate
{
using (SPSite site = new SPSite(docLibUrl))
{
SPWeb CRsite = site.OpenWeb();
SPList ContRep = CRsite.GetListFromUrl(docLibUrl);
FullTextSqlQuery fts = new FullTextSqlQuery(site);
fts.QueryText =
"SELECT Title,ContentType,Path FROM portal..scope() WHERE freetext('" +
searchText +
"') AND (CONTAINS(Path,'"" +
ContRep.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl + ""'))";
fts.ResultTypes = ResultType.RelevantResults;
fts.RowLimit = 300;
if (SPSecurity.AuthenticationMode != System.Web.Configuration.AuthenticationMode.Windows)
fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.PluggableAuthenticatedQuery;
else
fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.NtAuthenticatedQuery;
ResultTableCollection rtc = fts.Execute();
if (rtc.Count > 0)
{
using (
ResultTable relevantResults =
rtc[ResultType.RelevantResults])
retResults.Load(relevantResults, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges);
foreach (DataRow row in retResults.Rows)
{
if (!row["Path"].ToString().EndsWith(".aspx"))
//if (row["ContentType"].ToString() == "Item")
{
using (
SPSite lookupSite =
new SPSite(row["Path"].ToString()))
{
using (SPWeb web = lookupSite.OpenWeb())
{
SPFile file = web.GetFile(row["Path"].ToString());
items.Add(file.Item);
}
}
}
}
}
} //using ends here
});
return items;
}

I am working in a school and we recently installed a new server running WinServer 2008R2. I want to be able to point people to a URL on our intranet and have them fill out a simple registration form and have this data written to a database. It would also be nice to have some data auto-populate (such as their name).
Is it overkill to set up a sharepoint server and try to do this with Access Webforms? Could I use something like dotnetnuke and find a module that works? Or how about options for writing custom forms?

Currently have an asp.net web site which is contained on 2 web servers which are load balanced i.e. web farm.
I would like to have some code which would allow me to call a particular server and execute a method on it. I WANT TO do this so that i can force all web servers to refresh their cache via a web page on the site.
Use Case is: Admin user logs into site and makes a change to a setting which is cached and then clicks "Refresh web server cache" button which then calls the update cache method on each of the servers. this is to prevent me from having to restart the app pool every time a cached setting is changed.

I have an asp.net 2.0 user control library that runs within a SharePoint site. We upgraded one of the assemblies that this application depends on to .net 4.0 so we were forced to update the website to an asp.net 4.0 site so that it could use that assembly. That caused us to run into this error: Could not find permission set named 'ASP.Net'. Which is documented here: [URL] and states: "This error occurs because the ASP.NET 4 code access security (CAS) infrastructure looks for a permission set named ASP.Net. However, the partial trust configuration file that is referenced by WSS_Minimal does not contain any permission sets with that name."
Their proposed solution is don't attempt to use .net 4.0 which is not really an acceptable solution. So I'm trying to better understand what the actual problem. Our site is actually using a custom permission config based off of WSS_Minimal but it apparently includes the same reference. Can anyone tell me what file they are referring to when they say "the partial trust configuration file"? Where exactly does wss_Minimal reference this file? If the permission set named ASP.Net doesn't exist, I should be able to create my own permission set to take it's place. I'm not CAS expert but I haven't been able to find an ASP.Net permission set using the .net 2.0 configuration tool, and I'm not sure where it's being referenced in the wss_minimal config. Where is this ASP.Net permission set defined?

how to implement API over the SharePoint(MOSS) framework.
What i want to do is create a client application to communicate with the SharePoint.
wanting to implement something like following.
Client send post request to API implemented on SharePoint, API receive a request and do the authentication and create a login cookie. Client keep communicating with API(with the login cookie), request necessary information and API returns it.
I could not find anyway to hook a program... Is there anyway to hook a program or implement own authentication mechanism before SharePoint's own authentication is called?

I have a web service with the following contract:
POST /Service/service.asmx HTTP/1.1
Host: xxx.xxx.xxx
Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8
Content-Length: length
SOAPAction: "xxx.xxx.xxx/Service/Method"
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap:Header>
<Request xmlns="xxx.xxx.xxx/Service/">
<transactiontype>string</transactiontype>
<username>string</username>
<password>string</password>
</Request>
</soap:Header>
<soap:Body>
<Method xmlns="xxx.xxx.xxx/Service/">
<xml>xml</xml>
</Method>
</soap:Body>
</soap:Envelope>
And I am trying to call the service using jquery. This is my code:
$.ajax({
url: serverUrl + 'Method',
type: "POST",
dataType: "xml",
data: { xml: "xml" },
beforeSend: function (req) {
req.setRequestHeader('Header', '<Request xmlns="xxx.xxx.xxx/Service/">'
+'<transactiontype>4</transactiontype>'
+'<agencyName>name</agencyName>'
+'<username>user</username>'
+'<password>pass</password>'
+'</Request>');
},
success: function (data) {
alert(data.text);
},
error: function (request, status, errorThrown) {
alert(status);
}
});
However, the header content is not passed to the web service? How would I go about passing the header credentials to my web service call?

I have a preexisting asp.net site that uses forms authentication. I am setting up a Sharepoint 2007 site on the same box. I would like to use my existing asp.net site authentication and once logged in provide a link to the sharepoint site that has the user auto-logged in.It doesn't matter to me if Windows or Forms auth is used. I tried a couple different things to pass credentials through the response, but was unable to obtain success. Has anyone done anything similar. The tutorials for configuring forms auth on sharepoint just seem over the top and quite unreasonable.

I noticed impersonation is turned on by default in MOSS web configs. I tried disabling it but the web app returns an error. So my question, is it possible to disable impersonation in MOSS? If it is possible are there any special considerations I should be aware of?
If you're interested in why I need to do this...I need to have a custom web part (developed with SmartPart) talk to a separate SQL server using the application pool rather than the current user (Kerberos is enabled). If I set the authentication mode to NTLM I get NTAuthority/ANonymous login errors from my SQL connection. If I turn Kerberos on, the currently logged in user's credentials are passed. If I hard code the user id and password in the connection string it seems to ignore it and default to whichever security model is in place (NTLM or Kerberos).
