Displaying A Gridview's Footer With An Empty (linqdatasource) Datasource?
Sep 3, 2010
The datasource of the datagrid is a LINQDataSource which relies on the value of a dropdownlist. In addition, I want to use the footer to insert new records - so I'd prefer not to use the empty dataset template. I am trying to find a way to always display the footer regardless if the datasource is empty or not.
EDIT:
Is there a way to create an empty/invisible object of the type in the LinqDataSource?

I've got a gridview in which I have a footer that I use to insert rows into the grid. However, if the grid is empty no data is displayed (including the footer). Is there a way to still show the footer row so a user can insert additional rows into the grid despite it starting out as empty?

I am trying to show the footer template of a gridview on page load when there is no data in the database. The reason why im saying page load is that I have code to actually pull data from the database instead of a datasource.

I have an ASP.NET Panel with various controls along with Gridview. I have to send the panel along with the gridview as pdf to users email on button click. Everything is working fine but the Gridview is missing its headers and footers in pdf.
Code:
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=Panel.pdf");
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter hw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw);

I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.

Im trying to build a where clause in c# for a LinqDataSource, but I cant get it to work, heres my code
[Code]....
when I set category to 'Concerts' tyhe where clause is
'Category = Concerts'
this generates an error telling me there is no column called 'Concerts'. I assume I somehow have to enclose the search term in quotes, Ive tried single and double quotes, but nothing works.

<asp:LinqDataSource

using vb.net/asp.net 2005 and SQL Server 2005 In my vb.net code I am setting the select statement for SqlDataSource1 and after that I am setting the DatasourceID for my gridview called grdGV (see below). However no rows are being displayed in the grid and the Rows.Count that I am printing out is 0. But when I taked the SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand printed out in my response.write statement below and query this in my SQL database I see 2 records being returned. So I am very puzzled why the database will return 2 records but the same exact query that is set in the SqlDataSource and then bound to the grid does not return 2 records?
I have also checked the DataSource.ConnectionString and it matches the database I am using.

I use LinqDataSource and GridView.
I need an old value of field "PictureBig" in RowUpdating handler like this:
e.OldValues["PictureBig"]
To achieve this I use bound unvisible literal in edit item template...
<asp:Literal ID="ltBig" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("PictureBig") %>' Visible="false" />
Is there any better ways of doing this?

I am trying to program the where prameters for this in code behind in C#, and is there really no way to do more than one parameter? Or am I not understanding this correctly? It seems only the 2nd parameter gets executed, no matter which one is at begining. I debug and seems they both get executed fine, but my listview doesn't get filtered and instead only the 2nd paramter works. Look at my code:
Also, if I do myLinq.Where = "division ==1 and someotherInt = 2", it works fine, but if I do two different data types, it will throw error. Since I want to filter with two different data types, hwo do I do this?
Parameter pram1 = new Parameter();
pram1.Name = "division";
pram1.DbType = DbType.Int32;
[code]...
