DropDownList Value Not Changing With UpdatePanel And ModalPopupExtender?

Apr 5, 2010

I have an asp.net webpage with an modalpopupextender inside of an updatepanel. When I click Ok on the popup, I can get the textbox values from the popup just fine, but the DropDownLists have the old/default value, not the new value I have selected for them.

All the controls on the popup are set to enableviewstate = true, and autopostback = false (I just want to make the trip to the server when I click the ok button, not every time I change the value of the popups).

Here is the relevant code

AJAX :: How To Use ModalPopupExtender In UpdatePanel

Feb 5, 2010

I try I cannot seem to find a satisfactory solution. As far as I can tell from the documentation a ModalPopupExtender should be able to reside inside an UpdatePanel. However, I simply cannot get it to work.After the first refresh of the UpdatePanel I get errors of various kinds depending on what I've tried.

What I'm trying to accomplish is having a button inside an UpdatePanel which launches a popup. Another button inside the UpdatePanel causes a partial postback. And finally a button within the popup has to cause a partial postback. I have tried at least five different approaches to this problem and finally I gave up and went with a very inelegant solution. I don't think my requirements are all that strange, am I doing something wrong?

First I tried this:

[code]....

This works fine until after the first postback when the Cancel-button (Button4) starts causing synchronous postbacks and the textbox starts to fill up with commas. I also tried the same as above but placing an UpdatePanel within Panel4 (the popup) - no go. Then I tried causing the postbacks in javascript launched from the ModalPopupExtender's OnOkScript - still it starts failing. I tried another couple of attempts
all of which failed. Finally I decided to move the ModalPopupExtender outside the UpdatePanel, add dummy buttons and a bit of javascript to launch and hide the popup. Although this satisfies my UI requirements it just plain wrong from a design perspective and it annoys me that I could not get the extender to work inside an UpdatePanel. Has anyone succeded with placing a ModalPopupExtender in an UpdatePanel with the requirements I stated above? Or should it be added to the list of controls that's just not compatible with the UpdatePanel?

this is my final solution:

AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender Inside UpdatePanel?

Apr 15, 2010

I have a menu of buttons inside an UpdatePanel (UPD_Menu) so that buttons can be enabled/disabled without refreshing the entire page. When a user signs in, the Sign Up button is disabled and the Profile button is enabled. Likewise, when the user signs out, the Sign Up button is enabled and the Profile button is disabled.

Inside this UpdatePanel (UPD_Menu), along with the buttons, is a ModalPopupExtender that is fired by the Sign Up button (TargetControlId="BTN_MenuSignUp") that pops up a dialog Panel (PNL_SignupProfile) that contains yet another UpdatePanel (UPD_SignupProfile) that contains a Submit button as well as a Cancel button (CancelControlId="BTN_SelectCancel").

The behavior I am getting is when the user clicks no other button than the Sign Up button, the dialog (PNL_SignupProfile) pops up and is modal. The Submit button closes the dialog and makes the once-hidden panel appear under the menu of buttons. This is not good as only the inner UpdatePanel (UPD_SignupProfile) should be updated without affecting the outer UpdatePanel (UPD_Menu). The Cancel button works as it should by simply closing/hiding the dialog.

If a user clicks any other button in the menu first, nothing happens ( no codebehind yet) but when the dialog (PNL_SignupProfile) is shown, the Cancel button causes the hidden Panel (PNL_SignupProfile) to appear under the buttons. I've tried many different things to no avail...including putting the dialog panel in different places and even controlling the ModalPopupExtender from code.

The only code I have so far is for handling the signin/signout and enabling/disabling the signup and profile buttons based on user signin. There is no code yet to handle the menu of buttons nor the submit button of the popup dialog.

Here is the code:

Weird Behavior With ModalPopupExtender And/or UpdatePanel?

Jan 21, 2010

try to figure out what is wrong with my code but I'm lost. I've a ModalPopupExtender, triggered in code behind by the onClick event link button. The FIRST time I display my popup, it works well and if I close my popup using javascript, it works and I can get my popup back by clicking on my linkbutton again. But, if I click the "Save" button of my popup (which save data and close the popup), I can't get my popup to display again. Even if I close my popup first using javascript and then calling my server side code to save my data, the result is the same, I can't display my popup again. Seems like the postback "break" it.This popup is in an conditinal UpdatePanel and event trying to manually update the panel after the popup.show() method change nothing.Finally, I checked what server sent back to the browser using firebug and I can confirm that I received only view state information (no UpdatePanel to update), even after calling panel.Update().

AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender Unlinks UpdatePanel Events?

Mar 19, 2010

When I have a control within an UpdatePanel which is within a ModalPopupExtender panel, after the FIRST successful display of the modal (by clicking OK), the events of the control are not functioning. I have the full source code below of a working example of this. How do I get around this?In the sample, when the modal is first opened checking and unchecking the checkbox updates the textbox. Clicking OK updates the textbox in the outer UpdatePanel. Opening up the modal a second time will now prevent the checkbox from updating the textbox.

Now I'm getting "Microsoft JScript runtime error:Sys.InvalidOperationException:

So every 5 seconds I get new data in the rows. I am facing an issue in which I want to display the whole mult-line content of my Textbox(es).It displays fine but the modal window disappears after the UpdatePanel is updated.

How do I display this pop-up modal window and make it stay while the UpdatePanel continues to update the rows in the background?

AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender Won't Stay Popped Up During A Nested Updatepanel Update

Apr 13, 2010

I know I'm missing some simple little thing here...

[code]....

(I put in an Exit Sub at the very top so I'm sure it's not the code).

Essentially, everything is working just great except I need the modal popup to close only if the form data is correct and I choose to close it. The UpdatePanel, "UpdateInfo", is in place to allow form processing without interfering with the UpdatePanel, "UpdatePopup". In my real code, I have a hidden label that I use to report errors. The UpdateInfo is vital for showing/hiding the error but the popup must remain showing...and modal. (I had something like it working once before but I've re-written it since
and just can't remember how to do it.)

This can be viewed at [URL].

AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender Warning On DropDownList Selection?

Nov 12, 2010

Is there a way that if certain items are selected in a DropDownList to fire up a ModalPopupBox. Basically if any value except for one value is selected, I want a popup warning them, are you sure?

I have the Popup Frame, I have the Popup Extender. I just don't know how to wire the two together using the TargetControlID. I don't want the popup to just automatically come up when the dropdownlist is selected but only if its not value "X".

I figured instead of doing this in parallel, I could check it after the fact when the form is posted using the extender.show() command but my program is crashing because the targetcontrolid for my modalpopupextender is null. I don't have a targetcontrolID in that case?

AJAX :: How To Fire A ModalPopupExtender On The SelectIndexChanged Event Of A Dropdownlist

Mar 17, 2010

How can I fire a ModalPopupExtender on the SelectIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist?

I only want it to fire when a particular value is chosen in the list.

I tried leaving the PopupControlID value out and calling .Show() on my extender in the onselectchanged event, but it would not allow me to have a blank PopupControlID. If I set the PopupControlID to the ID of my dropdownlist, the popup fires as soon as I click on the dropdownlist control.

AJAX :: Selected Value Of Dropdownlist Inside ModalPopupExtender Is Always Default Value

Jul 8, 2010

I have a form in which I have a gridview with a LinkButton culumn in which when the user clciks a modal popup extender shows up. In the modalpopup I have a dropdownlist which is filled from DB in code behind. but when the user clicks on Add button in modalpopup panel, the selected value of the dropdownliast is always its default value.

here is my code behind:

[Code]....

I traced my code behind, the fillData() which fills up dropDownList is called only once in page load's first time.

PS. I understood the problem exists only when the modal is poped up by linkbutton click of gridview. when It is poped up by a button outside the grid it workes fine.

Visual Studio :: UpdatePanel Reference In Control.ascx.designer.cs Keeps Changing

Oct 12, 2010

I have an annoying problem when I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010. I am using an UpdatePanel in my .ascx file like this:

<asp:updatepanel id="upStuff" runat="server">....</asp:updatepanel>

in my control.ascx.designer.cs, the update panel is being defined like this:

protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.updatepanel upSettings;

this produces the error:

"The type or namespace name 'updatepanel' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"

The actual namespace should be System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel. When I go directly into the designer.cs file and change it, it works. However, every time I go back into editing control.ascx and save, Visual Studio always changes it back to system.Web.UI.WebControls.Webparts.updatepanel. I'm not sure what is causing this. Is it how I should be referencing namespaces and classes in my project? I'm using .NET 3.5.

AJAX :: Dynamically Fill Textboxes And Choose Option In Dropdownlist For Modalpopupextender?

Sep 7, 2010

I have a modalpopup extender that is brought up if the user presses a button. This is fine and the user can enter the data. There are a number of textboxes and dropdownlists. However, I have a gridview which I want to bring up modalpopupextender so the user can edit an entery. How can I set the data to the controls? A dynamicpopulate extender will repopulate the modalpopupextender with all the data. It doesn't make sense for me. Is there anyway I can populate the data with c#? Also can I assign two buttons to call the modalpopupextender?

C# - Changing The Value Of A DropDownList In .Net Client Side?

Dec 10, 2010

Assuming that I can't modify the code-behind file for a site (it's a compiled site), I've encountered a bug of mine that can only be fully fixed with a complete recompile and redeployment. Unfortunately, we are on a strict release schedule and we can't deploy for another 11 days.

The bug is that I'm doing a check on a drop down to make sure that the value that is selected isn't "-1". However, I didn't use drp.SelectedItem.Value, I used drp.Items[0].Value. Total bonehead move on my part. The bottom line is that drp.Items[0].Value is ALWAYS -1, so they page gives an error to the user stating that they need to choose an option for that drop down. Which they really have, but my bug is not letting them continue in this process.

So, I'm trying to determine if I could, client-side, replace the value of the first drp item to the actually chosen value of that drop down.

I've gotten this all to work client-side, but when the form is posted back, the value is still the value that was populated from code, meaning "-1".

I'm sure this is because the drop down is loaded and all the values are held in ViewState.

Radiobuttonlist SelectedIndexChanged When Changing Dropdownlist?

Sep 20, 2010

I have a radiobutton list that changes the contents of a dropdownlist when the selected radiobuttonlist index is changed using the SelectedIndexChanged event. Both controls are within the same updatepanel and both have autopostback set to true.

For some reason when I change the dropdownlist and cause a postback, the radiobuttonlist change event fires and repopulates the dropdownlist which effectively cancels the selection made in the dropdown.

I know something simple must be causing this behaviour but I cannot think what and my debugging efforts are not shedding any light thus far. I have tried putting a breakpoint on every procedure in my form and the first event that fires is the radiobuttonlist SelectedIndexChanged event so nothing in my server side code seems to be doing this which suggests it is something in the markup but I can't think what.

Web Forms :: Dropdownlist SelectedValue Not Changing?

I have a quick question on my ddl. I have a search page that searches based on the ddl. Once the button is clicked. the result of the search shows on the gridview.Which all works well.Now the problem i am having is that. On my gridview i have a select button that brings out another ddl on an update panel based on the first ddl. When i do this... it goes back to the first record on the ddl and shows a wrong result.. Basically the new ddl is supposed to change on "selectedindexchanged" handler of that gridview which works fine but the selectedvalue is just going back to the first one.

Dropdownlist Not Changing To New Index Upon Postbacks In Page_load

Jun 7, 2010

C# - Changing Dropdownlist Selection Causes Full Postback?

May 6, 2010

I have a search page with a TextBox that allows someone to type in a search term and press enter. (Which fires TextChanged). I have a DropDownList that specifies the kind of search that will be performed. It is defined in the markup as follows:

<asp:DropDownList ID="lstSearchType" runat="server" AutoPostBack="false">
<asp:ListItem Value="0">Last, First</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="1">Last</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="2">First</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="3">Liberty ID</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="4">E-mail</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="5">Telephone</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="6">Birthday (exact m/d/yyyy)</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="7">SSN (exact ###-##-####)</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Value="8">Address</asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>

As you can see, AutoPostBack is set to false, and there is no event hookup.

Pressing enter fires the OnTextChanged event for the TextBox, which performs a search and updates a GridView in an UpdatePanel. This UpdatePanel has its UpdateMode set to conditional and has one trigger: the TextChanged event of the search TextBox.

It's very simple.

And it works beautifully, almost.

Whenever I change the search type, the very next search does a full postback. All subsequent searches do partial postbacks (as desired) unless I change the search type again.

There is one exception to this rule: if I load the page and immediately change the search type, it doesn't do a full postback. So the first change of the DropDownList before any postback (full or partial) does not trigger a full postback.

Full Disclosure: I'm doing a lot of JavaScript to change the appearance of the gridview during async requests. I don't detail it here because it seems unrelated. This problem only occurs when a DropDownList with no JavaScript wired up is changed.

Changing Selected Text Of Dropdownlist In Gridview Using Javascript

When a value is selected in the dropdownlist (outside the gridview) I want to chaneg the selectedValue and selectText of every dropdownlist in my gridview. This is what I have tried:

Dropdownlist:
<asp:DropDownList onclick="javascript:onJDSelection()" ID="DropDownList3" runat="server"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource4" DataTextField="circt_cstdn_nm"
DataValueField="circt_cstdn_user_id">
Javascript:
<script type="text/javascript">
function onJDSelection() {
var jd = document.getElementById('DropDownList3.ClientID').selectedText;
var grid = document.getElementById('GridView2.ClientID');
//Loop starts from 1 because the zeroth row is the header.
for (var i = 1; i < grid.rows.length; i++) {
var OtherText = grid.rows[i].cells[2].innerText; // Works fine
grid.rows[i].cells[3].getElementsById('ddl_JD').selectedText = jd;
}
}

When I click I get an error. It says object expected. However I know those objects exsist!

Changing Dynamic Controls Via DropDownList On Content Page?

Nov 4, 2010

Problem: Content Page with Wizard Control with UpdatePanel and Placeholder. Above the UpdatePanel is a DropDownList. I need to display different input controls below the drop-down list when the user changes the selection in the drop-down list. When the user clicks 'Next' on the wizard control, I need to be able to get the data out of those dynamic controls as well.

I know all the dynamic controls have to be created in the OnInit method in order to get the data back from those controls during the postback. However, when the drop-down list's SelectedIndexChanged event is fired, the OnInit method is called... then the PageLoad... and finally the handler for the SelectedIndexChanged event is called. ViewState hasn't been restored until well after the OnInit & PageLoad methods have been called, so there is no way to know what the user chose in the list box at the time OnInit is called... which exactly when I'm required to create the dynamic controls.
