What i want to do is "backup" all files in a table (column) to disk, zip them and Response.TransmitFile(FilePath) to client.
I could use C# ot VB but that would require a lot of connections to database or a lot of server memory and i don't want that, becauze there are a lot of files to be saved Since SQL can write files to disk i was thinking about saving those files to disk directly from sql. I am having a little difficulty trying to wrap my head around site structures. I have quite a large asp.net site, for which: Admins can see a user list, Each user can have many accounts, and for each account can have many items. I can picture this as a breadcrumb trail of editing a particular item. User List > Mr Bob > Accounts > BOB77 > Items > Item32 > Edit
User List = All the users Mr Bob = A user the administrator has selected from the User List Accounts = A list of the user's accounts 12BOB = The administrator has selected the account named 12BOB Items = A list of the items an account contains Item32 = The item that the administrator selected Edit = The action that the administrator wants to do. I can picture how this would look like if it was using ASP.NET MVC with the URL, but I am unsure how to map this out using Webforms, and in the physical filesystem.
This is what I have thought up about how I am guessing the physical structure would look like. Will this have to use session variables to achieve what I am trying to do?

View 7 RepliesI've got a dynamic data application that I would like to use several Ajax Controls on (I.E. combo box with auto complete instead of dropdown for foreign key edit fields). I'm running into problems when I try to edit tables. I replaced the regular script manager with the one defined in the AJAX tool kit on the master page (Site.master). The combobox displays, and the table gets updated when you click update/insert, BUT, when the site tries to redirect back to the list view it barfs up a funny URL that the browser can't resolve. EX: www.example.com/TABLENAME/%2fTABLENAME%2fList.aspx when it should be www.example.com/TABLENAME/List.aspx. It works fine with the standard scriptmanager, but the ToolKit's manager doesn't. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 express, language is VB, DynamicData application uses LINQ to SQL.

Random questions per page, random count of questions, 4 types of questions (answears 1 .. 10, Text answears, ... atc.) I created webuserscontrol for each type of questions and these controls I dynamicly add to place holder in some page. There is everything OK, but when I click button on the bottom of the page, I need save the results from client, I need to know which radiobutton is selected and save it to DB and make some operation, and then, after saving, this page is reloaded and show next

I have a tabe related to songs which has columns like songID, album, Artist, track etc. I want the data for track to be entered in the format 1/2, 2/2 like this. What shpuld b the datatype of this value? If I'm entering a new data or updating the columns from a web page how can I check the track textbox to enter the correct value? Can I use any validation control? if so how can i use it?
View 6 RepliesI'm using Cute Editor for ASP.NET for the first time, and it's occasionally refusing to insert or update a record. Basically the records are just composed of a bunch of HTML and text. So far I can't detect a pattern to the problem and I'm wondering about my data type.
I tried VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX), and NTEXT, doesn't seem to fix it.
So what is the best SQL data type for HTML?
And could that be causing CuteEditor to refuse to insert/update records? Or something else?
