FileUpload Status Indicator C# - Progresscontent Doesn't Get To Display

Jan 22, 2010

I will probably end up buying Ajax Uploader, but I would like to know if there is a way to just let the user know if a file is in the process of being uploaded. I have tried an Ajax ProgressIndicator but it doesn't work...The file upload part works, but the progresscontent does not get displayed. Here is what I have without the Ajax:

<asp:FileUpload onchange="clickTheButton();" ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />
<asp:Button ForeColor="#ffffff" BackColor="#ffffff" BorderColor="#ffffff" BorderWidth="0"
ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Add Image" OnClick="AddImage_Click" />

Just a file upload control and a button that uploads the file. All I need is a way to let the user know that it is busy sending the file.

Ajax Page To Display Some Busy Indicator

Sep 8, 2010

Is there a way with ASP.net page (with AJAX) to display some some of busy indicator (just a label is fine) while disabling some buttons (to prevent double-click) and then do the work. At the end of the work, the label changes to indicate the new status. When I tried to do it this way :

Public Sub BtnEnvoyer_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnEnvoyer.Click
BtnEnvoyer.Enabled = False
LblStatus.Visible = True
LblStatus.ForeColor = Drawing.Color.ForestGreen
LblStatus.Text = "Envoi en cours..."
SendEmail()
End Sub
Private Sub EnvoyerCourriel()
' Do some work
LblStatus.Text = "Done!"
BtnEnvoyer.Enabled = True
End Sub

I just see the dn result, nothing in between. I don't mind using javascript to make it work if needed, or anything else for that matter.

AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender - Display Loading Indicator During WebService Call

Dec 16, 2010

On one of my pages I've got a popup window implemented using the ModalPopupExtender. The content html of the popup is retrieved from a webservice dynamically (using DynamicServicePath, DynamicServiceMethod properties of the extender). Everything works fine, however there is a minor problem: web service call takes about 2 seconds and the popup panel is blank during this time, which confuses the users. I would like to display 'Loading...' message in the popup window (or an animated image, does not really matter) during the webservice call. Is there a way to do it?

FileUpload Doesn't Work When Nested In UpdatePanel?

Jan 21, 2010

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:FileUpload onchange="clickTheButton();" ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="Button1" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

Button 1 is outside the update panel and the javascript that gets run when a user adds a file in the upload box is this:

function clickTheButton() {
document.getElementById('<%= Button1.ClientID %>').click();
}

The problem is simple. FileUpload1.HasFile == false. I don't know why this is, but when I put it in the update panel it ceases to work.

I have seen some other threads on this. But none of them answer why this is happening, they just point to things you can download.

EDIT: Really my main reason for wanting to do this is so that I can get a ..Uploading File.. Tag to pop up while the client is uploading to the server and once it has completed, display it in a datalist. I just cant get the UpdateProgress to work.

AJAX :: Fileupload In Updatepanel With Timer Doesn't Work At The Second Time

Jan 23, 2011

I cannot use asyncFileUpload as it has too many restrictions which doesn't meet our requirement.

I'm able to add a updatepanel trigger to force the Button1 to perform a postback. after the file uploaded, I need to use a timer to do different tasks and return messages back to client with the timer. That is all fine.

However, when one upload is finished. I try to do it again. The FileUpload1.HasFile is "false". I don't know why. if I remove the timer, at the second time, the HasFile is "true". I think there must be something in the timer and disable the Button1's postback.

Javascript - Display & Fade Out A Status Message?

Aug 30, 2010

I am using VSS 2005 & webforms with AJAX Control Toolkit. I am using Update panels for saving different parts of my form. Problem being I update the user with the status setting either a label or literal value.

This value is visible on the form untill the page is refreshed. Is there any way to display a message and fade it away after some seconds ? Would be a life saver for me =)

I am using VSS 2005 but I don't think a simple fade would require much intellisense with JQuery ?

Jquery - MVC 2 - Finding Best Implementation Of Status / Update / Generic Message Delivery And JavaScript Modal Display

Oct 5, 2010

For an MVC 2 app that relies on many partial views and almost exclusively uses Ajax for POSTs/GETs, what would be the best way to implement the setting, passing, retrieval and display (using a JavaScript modal) of these messages?

My forms all POST (by way of jQuery $.ajax) to actions that return partial views (html) that are used to update a in the "success:" part of the $.ajax function.

I was hoping for some sort of mechanism in the master view that could "listen" for any messages that any of these partial views might be "delivering"--through their ViewData, for instance.

Display Only File Name In FileUpload Control?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a webpage in asp.net 3.5 that uses the FileUpload control. When a user clicks on the "Browse" button (which is part of the control) the control displays a file select popup (dialog box). When the user selects the file which they wish to upload, by default the full path to the file is shown in the textbox (which is also part of the control); however, I wish for it to only display the file name and not the full path.

Setting Response / Status Generates "HTTP Status String Is Not Valid" Exception?

Jan 9, 2011

I'm writing an HTTP handler in ASP.NET 4.0 and IIS7 and I need to generate a file-not-found condition.

I copied the following code from Mathew McDonald's new book, Pro ASP.Net 4 in C# 2010. (The response variable is an instance of the current HttpResponse.)

response.Status = "File not found";
response.StatusCode = 404;

However, I found that the first line generates the run-time error HTTP status string is not valid.

If, instead of the lines above, I use the following:

response.Status = "404 Not found";

Then everything seems to work fine. In fact, I even see that response.StatusCode is set to 404 automatically.

My problem is that I don't want this to fail on the production server. So I'd feel much better if I could understand the "correct" way to accomplish this. Why did the first approach work for Mathew McDonald but not for me? And is the second approach always going to be reliable?
