i am using datalist control. in that, i have linkbutton in itemTemplate. i want to get the linkbutton value to textbox is in outside of datalist when i click the link button. below my design code there.

Im doing selling properties website with vb.net and just begin to use datalist
I have 2 pages, first is datalist that show all available properties with brief information, 2nd is another datalist that show full description about a particular property that the user wan to view.
I got few questions here:
1) I set the selecommand on the property name, but instead of viewing it on the same page, i wan to redirect to the details page to show all the informtion. How do i do that in the code behind? I include an onclick event to use Response.Redirect in the property name which is a linkbutton, but result in "XML page cannot be displayed" when click on it.
2) My primary key is set to imageID which to indicate the particular property details to show when user wan to view the full information. But how do i assign the image ID to the session?

I'm trying to get a link button within a datalist but its not working. I'm not getting any errors, the breakpoints on my c# are just not being reached.

I have a LinkButton that is databound to a description. Sometimes the descriptions are very long and unorganized so I would like it to show for example 75 characters and then append a '...' to the end of any description greater than 75 characters. I found this snippet which pretty much is exactly what I want to do :

I just cant figure out how to do this for the LinkButton in my ItemTemplate in the DataList.

Very new to ASP.NET (using C# behind) and am having trouble figuring out the following scenario. I have a DataList that is populated (code below) and wanted each cell to be clickable. When the cell is clicked I wanted to know the unique ID for that cell. In my code behind, my OnClick method looks like this:

However I never get there. It seems as if the linkbutton always refers to some javascript callback function and just reloads my form. Am I using the wrong control for what I want to do? From this click I want to look up more information from the Key (will roll up the datalist or set visible to false, then supply the new data on the same page)DataList:

I have a linkbutton inside datalist1 item template field, i want when user click on linkbutton then its text would be "enable" and if the linkbutton text is "enable" and panel1 will be visible then again on linkbutton click event linkbutton text would be "disable"and panel1 will be hidden.

i need to use linkbutton(Go for more detail)......on that link button i need to check session values .if session variable on that page exist..it should redirect to a different page...but if session on that does not exist..it should be redirected to a login page.....my link button is within datalist control....

In my asp.net web i used the following code:

The Datalist is being databound via an ObjectDataSource and everything here works fine. I have a label which I've added to my datalist and it's unbound to anything. Depending on the message information, I want this unbound label to display a certain phrase but it has to be next to a bound label. But if I try to change the text of the label in the code-behind, VS2k8 reports that the label is not declared. How do I do this?

I have a datalist control
In it, I have a hyperlink that im binding the url, and the text to from a mysql database
here is my code so far

Now, the problem is, the field "topicid" returns a number, such as 3. I want to add the following text before it: viewTopic.aspx?id=
So, ideally, i want something like this

NavigateUrl='<%# "viewTopic.aspx?id=" + Bind("topicid") %>' Text='<%# Bind("title") %>'></asp:HyperLink>
But, when I do it that way, I obviously get an error.
So, is there any way to solve this problem without having to modify the database?

I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:

The problem is that i have a search page. Access Database holding the information. I have a Access Datasource on the page with a Datalist to show the data. I need to find a way on setting it up to says "Sorry no results found" when the is no results. i am unsure on how to do this though.

Am building a Form for out intranet that runs on ASP.NET and C#, it is to be a survey from a SQL database. I have the connections setup can pull informations/Questions from the database. I am having a problem with setting up radio buttons within a datalist, ive never done this and i know they require unque names.
It is to be 4 radio buttons per question where only one can be select, i know how to group just not via a datalist with unique names
