Forms Data Controls :: Assign A Value To A Field In DetailsView After Insert Or Cancel?

Jun 10, 2010

A TemplateField of a DetailsView can be assigned a value easily at any of many event handlers such as Load, PreRender, etc. when the page is loaded. However, after Insert or Cancel is clicked, all the fields are cleared. I cannot figure out how to assign a value to the field again in code-behind.

Forms Data Controls :: Stop An Update In A Detailsview

Jan 11, 2010

I have an update button in a detailsview. based on certain criteria in the data that is being updated (blank field), I want to stop the update from happening. I tried putting the following code in my UpdateButton: 'check to see if the status is 'complete'

Dim statuscheckbox
As CheckBox =
TryCast(formulationDetailsView.FindControl("FormulationCompleteCheckBox"),
CheckBox)If statuscheckbox.Checked
Then
'check to see if color code has been entered
Dim colorcodetextbox
As TextBox =
TryCast(formulationDetailsView.FindControl("ColorCdTextBox"),
TextBox)If colorcodetextbox.Text =
""
Then
'show a message, the color code has not been entered
MessageBox2.Text = "Please enter Color Code prior to complete"
statuscheckbox.Checked = False
resetformwithoutediting()
End

how to stop this code from proceeding to the update?

Forms Data Controls :: Using A Formview To Update A Database With A Insert Button

Jan 5, 2011

I am *VERY* new to ASP.net. This may seem simple to you all, but I'm really lost. I have a small sized page with three text boxes (part of the InsertItemTemplate) of a formview, and a slightly modified link the system generated to submit the data to be inserted in the database:

[Code]....

If this page is run, it inserts the data into the database fine, clears the form and sits there. I want it to return a simple "Thank you" page in a window of the same size, with a Close Window buttom at the bottom to close the window:

[Code]....

When I set the postbackurl property on the first page, everything appears to work, except the write is never done to the database. If I remove the postback, it works as it did previously.

Forms Data Controls :: Listview Cancel Command Button Not Canceling After E.Cancel?

Oct 28, 2010

I am using a LINQ to SQL data source for a ListView and perform a validation check in the Listview ItemUpdating event:

[Code]....

This works great and keeps the user from updating the record with invalid data. However, when I hit cancel after this operation, it saves the text in the box rather than cancelling the operation. Here's my code for the update button:

[Code]....

Update Function:

[Code]....

I do not handle the cancel button event, as the cancel operation has worked fine... unless someone enters incorrect information and e.Cancel is set to true. What am I doing wrong? Is it the mixture of using the LINQ Datasource and doing my own updating?

DataSource Controls :: Sql Insert Failing On Detailsview Insert Or Update?

Mar 6, 2010

I am using 1 textbox with a Ajax Calendar extender to allow my user's to select a date graphically (exp: 12/15/2009). I have another textbox for the hour and minutes in military time(exp: 15:30). I think i have the code to grab the data from the 2 textbox's and combine them to be inserted into the field (exp: 12/15/2009 15:30). Here is my insert code for the Field:

[Code]....

However unless I make all the fields Nullable the insert fails, on top of that none of the other field that I have selected on the Detailsview Insert or Edit are inserted into there fields. Half of my fields have to be non-null values. So how do I fix this?

I can supply additional vb code and the aspx code if needed.

This is the error I'm getting: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Operation_type', table '/GAOSDB.MDF.dbo.BC_Perf_Log'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated.'

This is the first non-null column.

I need to get this figured out because I have 30 other web pages that will be utilizing the same approach.

Forms Data Controls :: DetailsView Jumping To Wrong Record After Clicking Update Button?

Jan 20, 2010

I have a web form with a detailsview controlled by a linkbutton in a gridview. When the user clicks the linkbutton, a panel appears with the detailsview inside it. The select statement is created based on the commandargument of the link button. So far, if there is a record associated with the ID passed through the linkbutton, the detailsview displays correctly. However, if the user needs to update this, it jumps to the default record for that detailsview after clicking the standard update link. Without a default ID set, the detailsview does not display at all, as some IDs do not yet have a corresponding record for the detailsview.

How can I get around this issue? Also - is there a way to immediately display an open detailsview for IDs with no record associated yet?

Forms Data Controls :: How To Stop A Detailsview From Inserting Or Updating

Aug 12, 2010

Here is the scenerio:I have a radtabstrip (with 2 tabs) at the top of my page followed by radMultiPage control Tab 1 displays pageview 1 which has a gridview showing data from our database and allows for selection or deletion of data tab 2 displays a detailsview when gridview_selectedindexchanged(from tab 1) is fired.Problem... If you select an entry in the gridview it switech the page and the detailsview into editmode (works fine) but if you then click on tab 1 without clicking update or cancel in the detailsview, the data is updated. This is what i don't want as the user has basically abandoned the changes. So what i need is a what to say ... if the detailsview is in edit or insert when the tabstrip is clicked then cancel the insert or update. I tried switching it back to readonly mode but that did not seem to work.
