This grid looks great in the browser, but when printing, the date is duplicated - one w/ the correct format and one w/ the full datetime format (including hh:mm:ss). I've tried converting the datetime in the Select query, but keep running into error messages.

Interested in a way to call an event when the Required Field Validator component determines the assigned text field is not valid/empty. Is this possible? Somewhat surprised it doesn't have an event for this. Am I missing something?

Using the radiobuttonlist, the user selects a search type and then enters the criteria in the text box. the click event of a submit button checks the rbl.selectedindex and chooses a sqldatasource.selectcommand with the where clause getting its criteria from the textbox. I have a custom hierarchical data source based on the msdn example [URL] An event can be raised in the DataSourceView. If that occurs, I want to display a message on the web page.
The example is that I have a page with a TreeView control which uses a custom hierarchical datasource. If the user selects a node that they are not allowed to select, the underlying datasource will throw and error.
I want to capture this and add a message to the page. The Page_Error event is raised, but there are no eventargs.
Anybody know how to capture such an event?
An alternative approach, although not quite specific enough, is to set a flag during the datasource load event (indicating the datasource is loading) and test for this flag in the Page_Error routine.

I have a DetailsView on the page and I have made one of the fields a TemplateField. In the EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I have a DropdownList that is databound to a table in my Sql Server database. I wanted to add an initial value to the DropdownList
namely "- select -" .
I set the AppendDataBoundItems property to true and added the initial value as a ListItem.Markup of the DropdownList

This works fine for new input. The problem is however that the database already has records that were entered through a Windows Application and many of these records has a null value in this field and exceptions are thrown when I tried to open these records
and the system tried to set the SelectedValue of the DropdownList.After some more searching I found this help

So I changed the ListItem in the DropDownList markup to the following:

This now solved the problem of opening a record where the value is null in the database, BUT now the RequiredFieldValidator is not validating anymore to make sure that a databound item is selected for this field and not the initial value "- select -". So basically now it is not checking anymore to see if valid input has been entered for the DropDownList and it accepts "- select -" thus it acts as if the field is not a required field anymore.
In short what is required is that I want to make sure that the user enters a valid selection in the DropDownList, but it must also cater for old records that do not have this field entered yet so that those old records can be opened in the DetailsView .Opening Old records (with null in that field):When these old records are opened in the DetailsView the DropDownlist should show "- select -" when the value in the database is null.
Saving records (old or new records):When saving the record in Insert mode or Update mode the RequiredFieldValidator should show that a valid input is not selected if the DropDownList is still on "- select -".

I have a gridview that receives data based on selection from a primary dropdownlist object. Works.
Within the gridview, there is a dropdownlist whose selected index is based on the query from the primary dropdownlist. Works.
Problem.
How do I force the used to change whatever value that the dropdownlist contains after they make their initial selection from the primary dropdownlist; except the default value of "make a selection".
Gridview, contains a checkbox which drives whether a selected row is inserted into the data base. The databind in done using an ObjectDataSource on the presentation page, not in the code behind.

I have a link button in my gridview. It is populating correctly; however, being I am populating the values in the gridview using "Eval()" method I don't know how to get the value of the selected Link Button (which is only selected by a user actually clicking
the Link Button).
The user can click on the text directly (instead of showing the "Select" auto created). I want to be able to capture the item they have clicked on's Text property.

When the click on "Value2" I want the text property to be stored in a string variable (In this case the text would be "Value2"). This code works perfectly fine , depending on the ishyperlink flag in the database...specific cells in the grid are made clickable and then redirected to page2.aspx My Issue: I need to capture which specific cell in which specific grid the user has clicked. store some information in sessions based on the cell clicked and use that information in page2.aspx.
