I wanna set a default value in dropdown list when i change in list.....e.g.
I have a dropdown which i have placed in Gridview templates and there is another dropdown jst above that grid....i want...when i change in above dropdown and select a value from that...then that value should be apply in below gridview's dropdown...
As i am selecting 'A' then Gridview's All Dropdowns default value should set 'A'

I have a drop down list that is populated in the page load event from a database table. The drop down has a DataTextField set to a project name and the DataValueField set to the project id (interger). Later I change the dropdowlist selected item with this code in the selectedindexchanged event of a gridview
GridViewRow row = GridView1.SelectedRow;
ddlProjectList.SelectedItem.Text = row.Cells[2].Text;
Does Changing the drop down list with this code cause the DataValueField property to change to the correct Project ID number also? If not is there a better way to do this? actually this code seems to be adding an additional item to the list so that the project i set with this code is listed twice so I don't think my code is correct

i have got grid view with 4 coloums which contains 2 dropdown list. n i have 2 drop down list out side the gridview .
i want to change the index of the 1st coloum dropdown list inside the gridview when changing the drop down list index outside using javascript
similarly the when the 2nd dropdown list(out side ) index change the 2nd coloumn dropdown list in gridview should change.
In short the outside placed dropdown list should act as master dropdown list.

I have a drop down menu that is populated on page load. Below that, I have a gridview that has a select parameter based on that drop down menu's value. I can't get the gridview to populate with data based on the drop down. If I fill in the parameter with a constant, the data pulls fine, but when I switch the parameter to a form parameter, it won't pull.

i have two dropdownlist, second dropdown populates based on value selected in first dropdown.
Parentdropdown is working fine and second dropdown is also popualting correctly. But when i select value from second dropdown and click on submit button it resets to first value i.e though i have chosen 3rd value from dropdown it resets to first value.This happens when autopostback is not thr.
If for the same case ifi do autopostback=true. It chnages to first value automatically . then it odesnot require submitbutton click as well.
In both cases selected index is not getting set for second dropdown.

I have one repeater on page which has his own sql data source. I've placed 2 dropdown lists on the page. The repeater has jQuery DataTable plugin. With 2 dropdownlist I wish to change the sql stored procedures so when each will be selected the data in repeater will change. When user select the first there will be only data (users) according to selected item and in the second the same. I wrote 2 simple functions for changing stored procedure of repeater and rebiding it. Everything works but when I try the second one and then the first I always get warning about error "Procedure or function .... has too many arguments specified".
I think that when I select the first one the second function is still called although I don't call it.

I've tried to wrap up my problem with a complete example below - the original problem is part of a jQuery plug-in that I'm writing to extend the behaviour of an ASP.NET ajax application I already have.
The aspx page below has one drop down list which is marked for auto post back. I've also bound a change event using jquery (which ultimately I will swap for a .live() event to maintain the binding after the update panel refresh.) The problem is, when the jQuery event is bound I see two ajax begin requests and page_loads fire but only one ddlTest_OnselectedIndexChanged event. One of the page loads is malformed too - the content-length states it's about 300 bytes long whilst the totalBytes is 0 and form data empty. This does not happen if I bind to the click event of a button.
why the erroneous page_load event is firing ?

When i run the following code i get an error when gridview changes mode to Edit. stating that you can't change string to decimal!

I have a gridview in which I have several editable fields. The user wants a non-editable field to be modified if another field is modified in the same row. e.g. if Age>=65, Status should ="Retired"
I am using the following demo: [URL]
to create a bulk edit gridview so some columns are automatically editable and others aren't, with a single update button. I can set Status="Retired" in the xml generated, or as a rule in database table. But I'd like the status field in the gridview to change when Age is modified and to be shown to user before they press the single Update button. I'm using update panels and ajax on the page also.

When the user wants to edit this object he will have 2 fields id and categoryName and when he press update the UpdateCategory function will receive an already made object of TCategory type storing the data user has typed. The problem is that i also want to let the client to change the id of the object so i need to pass to the function the actual Id and the TCategory object. How can i do this?

I am stuck at this point "Displaying a dropdown list of Categories with a --None -- Option. I want the gridview control to display 2 dropdown list one in read-only mode and the other in edit mode. When a record is in read-only mode, the dropdownlist's enabled property will be set to false."When it's on a read-only mode, it doesn't display the selected Category. it shows but the "No Category". I've a gridview with one textbox column and 1 label.
Based on language selection im changing master page and gridview will be bind with data based on language from database . When change the language the labels will be binding with data based on language . but textbox value is not binding properly.i.e;for example  i've 2 languages English and Arabic . First i've logged with English Language gridview is binding correctly after chnage language to Arabic the textbox value is not binding is displaying with data previously whatever binded with english language. Other than this textbox remaining  label data bindind with data in arabic language.

I have a databound dropdownlist and have a problem with the default value it selects.When I attempt to edit a record the dropdownlist shows the first value in the list rather than the current value. I want the dropdown list to display the current value.
I'm sure this is very simple but I'm very new to ASP.NET.

I cannot change the text in the drop menus. It was originally "Select a General Market", and "Select a Market". I have changed them and the changes due not take effect. I can change the labels, but not the default text inside the dropdown list. Is this something that needs to be changed elsewhere?

Now my client requirement is to change menu's based on drop down selection so that menus will be minimum and quite user friendly.for that I did following steps:-
