Forms Data Controls :: Changing Fields Visible Property To False In DetailsView?

I have a problem that in DetailsView Edit Mode, if I go to edit fields, and set a fields visible property to false, when I update the record through the built in update options it sends a null value. If I change the field back to visible, it passes the data just fine.
Consequently, I tried just setting the field to Read Only = True, and got the same result even though the current values do show up in the edit mode, just read only.Is there anyway to hide the field but still allow it to pass the data it currently has "BACK" into the record.

I have a form with a ton of gridview controls on it. All of which are driven by a dropdown list control. When I select a value from the dropdown list control it populates the 5 gridview controls with data from the database.If there are no rows associated with the record from the dropdown list then I am going to set the visible property of all of the gridview cotrols to false.
I know how to set the property I just need to know where I would set it and what I would check.I can put my code in the selectedindexchanged event for the dropdownlist control but how do I check to see if there are no rows associated with that value? Maybe some sort of If gridview1_rowdatabound = 0 then...

I have an Objectdatasource configured with Select, Insert, Update & Delete queries in a Dataset. This datasource is linked to my Gridview. I do not require all fields in the table to be displayed or updated in my grid so i have turned off the Visible property on several.
However, when i go into Edit mode and trigger the UPDATE to the database table, i get NULL values updated in the columns i set False for the Visible property.
How can i remove these columns from the GridView and the Edit mode and still have them UPDATE with their current values instead of being overwritten with NULL's?

I have a database field called ImageLocation, I have the ImageUrl property bound to: Eval("ImageLocation", "{0}")I would like to bind the Visble property to false if the ImageLocation is null data. I can not figure out how to set the control properly, currently the Datalist shows me all the data and when the image location is null it shows me the name of the Hyperlink control which happens to be Hyperlink2.

I am basically trying to check the contents of a field in a data base (Course) to determine if a button (btnMisfills) shoulf be displayed for a specific user. I am sure ther are probably better way of doing this, and any suggestions would be appreciated. However I am using the few tools I know how. Everything works as expected as long as the DetailsView is visible, but I have no need to display the detailsView. When I change the detailsView to visible = false, my logic does not work. Apparently visible = false means the detailsview is not created. If this is true, how else can I check for the contents of the course field?s there a way to check a field in the sqldatasource?

Hi I have a situation where I want to set the initial visible property of an Image to False and then in my code change it to True and then run a sub routine. My problem is that no matter how I order the code the sub runs before the image becomes visible. When I debug the image only becomes visible when it hits End Sub. Is there any way around this? I have a label1 in my aspx page, which property is set to visible = "False".
In the view source of the browser i cant able to find that label1.But using some other third party tool like "Burp Suite" etc ...

I have two Repeater controls, each hosted in a user control. Both user controls are contained in the same aspx page. Only one User Control is visible at any one time. The repeaters are comprised of checkboxes, and text boxes for user input.
The aspx page is configured with an Ajax ScriptManager; and contains several Ajax UpdatePanels. These UpdatePanels result in partial page post backs when text is changed in a textbox control in controls on the aspx page (this is not the behaviour for the Repeaters in the User Controls). Through use of several AsyncPostBackTriggers, various controls contained in the other UpdatePanels on the page have their content refreshed in response to the partial page post backs they are configured be notified about.
Depending on a radio button group selection, I set the visible property to true or false - as appropriate for the User control containing a repeater control. The Repeater control is then populated with data using databinding. All of this works.
However, when the Submit button is clicked, the Repeater control contains no data.
Given that I am not dynamically adding the Controls containing the Repeater controls (but using Visible true / false). I would have thought that the State of the fields and the data in the visible control would be preserved during the post back.
The User Controls are contained within the UpdatePanel that contains the Submit Button.
I have explicitly Enabled View state without any effect.
Am I correct in assuming that I should not have to do any explicit handling of data changes the user makes (via client side script and manipulation of an Data Structure Representing the Repeater Data); and the View State should maintain the data I need to access on the server when submitted?
I do not believe that it is the User Control visible state changes that are causing the issue because when the page is initially loaded on of the User controls is populated with dummy rows (so it displays).
I am suspicious that because the visible state of the controls is changed during partial page post back, that the Page View State ends up with no knowledge of the User Control and therefore cannot track its data (or changes).

I know the back button always presents a problem, but this one doesn't make any sense.
I have a simple details view and a button on a page. The button sends the user to the homepage. I am trying to prevent the user from being able to use the detailsview if they click Back in their browser.
This is the button click event

When the button is clicked...oddly the user is sent to the homepage then when they click the browser back button they are sent to previous page with the detailsview still visiible.
I know I am missing something, can someone fill me in?
Why is the detailsview still visible?

The problem is the CertId field in the GridView has visible set to false. I think this makes the value unaccessable to the RowCommand.

I have template field named "MenuItemId" which is visible false and in that i have taken hidden field (Htmlinputhidden) control. my requirement is i dont want to show that MenuItemId in the gridview but want to access the value of that column (i.e. hidden field). I have a gridview that serves as a confirmation for user input in a previous form from a previous page. The grid is databound to a temporary table where I store the user's initial selections. The user can confirm what they had submitted, (which may be more than one row of information, up to three classes) or go back and change. When they hit the confirm button, I loop through the gridview and enter a row in a permanent database for each row in the gridview. This works great.
However, I don't want the gridview to display all of the columns that are actually in the temp database, because I'm carrying over 'usersubmitted, datesubmitted', etc, from the previous page for each class selected and this is redundant. (I do need to use all of the columns when they submit, however, to make a new row with complete information for each selected class in the permanent database) So, when I set the usersubmitted column visible false, for example, in the gridview, the dataset table adapter insert function fails with a data type mismatch error. I'm assuming becuase the column has to be visible, becuase when I make it visible again it works.
Can you loop through a gridview and call on cells in columns that are not visible?
The first page is like this:
the user fills out his info once in text boxes

then selects up to three classes in dropdowns:
class one dropdown ...
class two dropdown....
for each dropdown, I insert name, address, class selected into a temp db Second page.

I have a problem displaying data in a Grid View control when set a row to visible = false when a certain condition is true.
For example, if a DataRowData value has a condition set to true (custom in table) I set the visible property to false, so the data row will not be visible at run time.
The problem is that I'm using paging (10 rows per page) and if 8 of those rows fall into the true condition that won't show the row, that grid view page will only show two rows of data in page 1. The worst scenario is that if I go to page 2 of the grid view and all the rows (10) fall into the true condition, that grid view page will not show any data at all.
How can I show 10 rows of data at all times in a gridview? In other words, I would like to just show the visible rows at all times.

I have a master/detail page using a gridview as the master, and a detailsview as the details. The gridview is set to select a record, and the detailsview picks up the ID and you can either edit that record, or add a new one.The detailsview is set up with various template fields, and if everything on the page is visible, it works OK.However, I wanted to hide the Gridview when the user in working with the detailsview. But if I do that, the detailsview doesn't update the record.

I have one GridView called GV_IssTypeDesc and one DetailsView called DV_IssueLog.
The scenario is that i only want GV_IssTypeDesc gridview to appear when DetailsView DV_IssueLog is in edit mode. How do i accomplish this?
