Forms Data Controls :: Creating Alternative Text For URL In Gridview
Jun 30, 2010
I created a database with ID, Title, Content, Date, ImgLnks, Image and Imagecaption and i'm using ObjectDataSource to populate the data. The field "ImgLnks" displays a new blank window with URL. This column is entered as text, inserted into the database and displays as clickable link in the gridview. My question is, is there a way that I can put an Alternative Standard Text in this column instead of displaying the clickable link like [URL] etc.? Text like, "Visit Page".

I have a ListView control that might be empty sometimes. I would like to show a text message like: "No items to Show" when the ListView is empty.
I have read the FAQ of this forum. This issue is not there.

As a workaround for the fact that asp:Checkboxes don't have values, I am attempting to dynamically create the ID's of checkboxes in a DataList so that it inserts the primary keys into the control ID. This is surprisingly difficult.
I have placed a PlaceHolder in my DataList ItemTemplate, then in the ItemCreated I create the checkboxes using string.Format("Checkbox{0}", DataBinder(e.Item.DataItem, "ID")). The problem is that this only works in a non-postback condition, as on postback the DataItem is null. And of course ItemDataBound isn't called on PostBack so that won't work either.
I can't seem to find a good way to handle this short of if (IsPostback) dataList.Bind(), which i don't think is a good way to do it.
Can anyone provide me with any alternatives here?

There is a AlternateText property in image-buttons so that while hovering mouse on image buttons, alternate text could clarify the functionality of the button. I want to do so with ASP.net standard gridview and show a text while mouse being stopped on buttonfield button that I've added to my gridview. But such a property does not exist and my searches using Intellisense reached nowhere.

I have been using Gridviews throughout a website I am currently building, however one particular requirement is to display two tables side-by-side that butt up against each other for the purposes of data entry. One person inputs numerous entries on the LH table whilst a different person will respond to one or more rows in any particular order (ie row 2 may addressed but row 1 might stay blank for a period of days). As far as I am aware, a GridView (or two) won't suit this requirement for the reason (from my still new understanding of GridViews) of not providing the ability for a 'respondee' to address any row in any particular order. Whilst I could add a button to each GriView row which displays a detailsView/FormView horizontally in line, I would still have to populate the Gridview with empty rows for those rows not addressed plus this 'fudging' just doesn't bode well concerning DB management.
It just seems adding two asp tables side by side then somehow working out how to automatically present a new row for data entry for the left hand table and creating a second table being the same size as the first (according to its number of rows) would be the way to go, then the task of data gathering/uploading to the DB. How best address the requirement - there maybe better ways for facilitating data input as opposed to using side-by-side controls, however it is the clients request. Also I don't want to go expelling copious amounts of time to fully customize a gridview when simply creating some sort of dynamic table would be sooo much quicker and easier for this once off. I have tried some searching, however not knowing where to start is problematic as 99% Google results return GridViews (as you would expect).

Did you have any issue to show background images in a gridview with IIS 7. I've exactly applied this [URL] and I've no idea why, my css works for the header but not for:
PagerStyle-CssClass="pgr"
AlternatingRowStyle-CssClass="alt"
The alternative row has no background image and the pager too but it works for the header. But when I browse the website online from my laptop, without IIS it works fine. When I check web developer tools from i.e., I've the backround image written in the css so it should come up.

I'm trying to make a form where the text boxes and titles for each box are created dynamically based on how many array values there are. I have tried a repeater but am a little unclear on how I can get the texbox to bind to one area of and the title to bind to another. This is what I have so far:
[Code]....
...and this is the code-behind with an associated array, arr1:
// Bind Array to Repeater
rep1.DataSource = arr1;
rep1.DataBind();
This works and adds values where container.dataitem is but how to I make it add one set of array values there and another set of array values where the *x* is?

can i declare and define a datacolumn alltogether at runtime?? I need to add a column(this column is supposed to be displayed at last in gridview) containing a control(which control should i use? :P) which i would use for redirecting to a different page and it will display data related to that particular column in a gridview.
For eg: last column in gridview1 on page 1 will have text "details" after clicking it an event will be fired which will fetch details of that particular row from database. My major problem is to ctreate this last column with some event firing thing in it :-)

I am trying to achieve something similar to this:
[URL]
He has a drop down list and a textbox in the header of a GridView. I am able to do this if i create a new column and put the controls in the Header Template.
However I would like my column to span across the entire GridView.Columns.Count instead of having an unsightly single column.

I'm a bit of an ASP.NET newbie and I am creating a data table in memory and binding this to a gridview control. The code is as follows:
Dim DstBasket As New DataSet, TblBasket As New DataTable
With TblBasket
.Columns.Add("BskPrdCd", System.Type.GetType("System.String"))
.Columns.Add("BskPrdDesc", System.Type.GetType("System.String"))
.Columns.Add("BskQty", System.Type.GetType("System.Int16"))
.LoadDataRow(Split("12345,Test product 1,1", ","), True)
.LoadDataRow(Split("122,Test product 2,2", ","), True)
.LoadDataRow(Split("123A,Test product 3,5", ","), True)
.LoadDataRow(Split("44,Test product 4,1", ","), True)
End With
DstBasket.Tables.Add(TblBasket)
With LfnGridView("GdvBasket")
.DataSource = DstBasket
.DataBind()
End With
The data displays in the gridview control fine with both edit & delete options but when I attempt to delete, it has no effect. How do I force removal of the relevant row from both gridview and table? Most of the documentation I have unearthed shows how to achieve this when connected to a SQL table which is clearly not the case here.

I have a stored procedure that creates a global temporary table. I fill in five records with nulls into the temp table. I select * from my global temp table. (I can replicate this in sql and see my table from the select * command) In ASP.net; I create a gridview that binds to the stored procedure as the select.command. I run my webform
The idea would be then to figure out how to edit the nulls and then append the data from my temp table on the actual table. I see nothing. No error. No grid. Nothing. Just plain white! What am I not doing right? Or what am I doing wrong?

On my webpage, jobs.aspx, I have a gridview which is populated from my database. I would like it so that when a row in the gridview is clicked, the ID of the row from my database can then be passed through as a query string to a second webpage, details.aspx, where more information about what was clicked on will be displayed.
I'm confident about being able to pass the query string, I just need help with getting the corresponding row's data ID from my database and making the gridview click-able, which will be the interaction which specifies which ID to be retrieved.

i need to add a hyperlink to each gridview cell and when that cell is clicked pass the header text through the querystring to another page. I can access the cells value ok and pass that through but i cannot seem to access the cells column header text. when i response.write out a count of the gridview.columns it brings back 2 which is the template fields but not the dynamic fields i have tried this on the rowdatbound, rowcreated, page_load and page_unload. the count should be 12 its like it cannot find the dynamic columns at all. ?
here is my code for populating the gridview
[Code]....
and here is my gridview:
[Code]....
i am also moving the total column in this code
[Code]....
and calculating my total in this code and adding my link to the total colum (which works fine)

now i just need to somehow add a link to the other cells and somehow get the value of the header text for that cell clicked.

I recently got a form to work with the "HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString" String. That basic idea was I needed a hidden form field so that each record submitted would include the UserName of the user logged in to the membership. However, whenever I try to create a custom query for the gridview, it doesn't submit. how I would go about doing this? Code as below:
