how to create dynamic template columns in gridview .
I have writing some of the code but it gives me error

i have a gridview which is populated from a stores proc using pivot tables. The column are created dynamically apart from a total column which is created as a template field. the gridview looks like below:

i need to add a hyperlink to each gridview cell and when that cell is clicked pass the header text through the querystring to another page. I can access the cells value ok and pass that through but i cannot seem to access the cells column header text. when i response.write out a count of the gridview.columns it brings back 2 which is the template fields but not the dynamic fields i have tried this on the rowdatbound, rowcreated, page_load and page_unload. the count should be 12 its like it cannot find the dynamic columns at all. ?

now i just need to somehow add a link to the other cells and somehow get the value of the header text for that cell clicked.
I need to get access to the page index of the gridview so I can correctly get some data from a coresponding array to set the cell's contol properties correctly. Below is what I've got so far. The ExcelObject is a class that houses both the data read in from an sutomer submitted excel file and a matching 2 dimensional array of characteristics that I use in this case to set the CssClass property. My problem is that when I enable paging for the gridview I don't get the proper datasource row index when the data is read by the databinder.eval; what I'm getting is the current row of the gridview being generated.

View 2 RepliesI have written some code to dynamically generate template columns for gridview which works well. However, each cell in the gridview has to be a linkbutton, which when clicked does a db update and redirects to a specific url with some parameters in it.
I have attached a click event handler to the linkbutton in the InstantiateIn method but the event does not seem to fire.

I have a gridview and basically at page load I want it to display with an empty row. The first field in the gridview would be a template field containing a textbox. I wan't to be able to type in, for example, a product code ('abc'). This would be the parameter for the stored procedure and then the rest of the columns (40+ additional columns) in the gridview would populate with the rest of the data pertaining to that product code (i.e. price, unit of measure, etc.). In short the template field texbox is the control to bind the gridview.
After the row is populated I could click a button or link that would add that entire row to my gridview and then add another empty row where I could enter another product code... populate the row then add that row to the gridview. and so on...

Everything works good, I can display my grid with the correct columns and headers. The probem comes up when I click a Save button, to save the user input. Of course the page postbacks, and I re-create the columns on PageInit. However, all the data the user entered is gone.
View 2 RepliesMy datasource is an ado data table that I have convert to a new data table so that each row in the original table is now a column with 1 row in my new table. I then bind the new datatable and create dynamic template fields with a text box where I bind the values. My problem is, when I try and retrieve the values changed by the user in the rowcommand event, the template columns no longer exists.
Does anyone know how i can retrieve these values? I've read over and over that you have to rebind the grid on each postback when you use dynamic templates, but I'm not sure how to do that and retrieve the values entered in the text boxes on the client side.

I want to create dynamic datalist control with item template in a for loop.
Example: In my database, I have 20 Categories and 100 products. Each categories have some products. Now I want to show 20 categories all together in my page and it is not specific that categories will remain same. It can be increase or decrease. I am taking CategoryID with for loop and now I want to bind datalist according to the count of for loop.
I created a gridview that is made up of 4 gridviews and using a stored procedure to populate it. I create columns at runtime because the number of columns changes all the time.To make the grids editable I am adding template fields at runtime as I create the columns, this is to ensure that a user is able to edit the cells and some foot values update. Reason why I have four grids is to freeze rows and columns like in excel using javascript. The problem is that performance is very bad especially in IE, the grids take a long time to load. I am not sure if this is caused by the data load or the creation of text boxes. see some of the code below for my _aspx page:

Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.

I want to change the ItemTemplate of Repeater based on different queries on my database.
Scenario -
Say for example,
- First query returns EmployeeID, EmployeeName - In this case repeater should display both fields.
- Second query returns EmployeeID, EmployeeDOB, EmployeeMemo - In this case repeater should display all three fields.
However this cant be done if I set hardcore EVAL in the markup. So i need it to be Dynamic.
Possible Solution in my opinion -
I found one way, that is creating a dynamic Template and then assigning its fields during Item_DataBinding.
Question -
Is there any other simple method, other than creating a dynamic Template all from its scratch. Means let me say, I hardcore fields like
EmployeeID, EmployeeName, EmployeeDOB, EmployeeMemo in the MarkUp, but in case of first query it (Repeater) should neglect
EmployeeDOB, EmployeeMemo and in case of second query it should negect EmployeeName.
