Forms Data Controls :: Data Source And Items Of A Repeater From An Enumerable List?
May 22, 2010
I have got the following code:
[Code]....
This should give me the friends of the user currently logged in in the Repeater, but gives me an exception on the runtime that an instance needs to be initialized, can you please suggest a solution...
Also, what should be the value of the NavigateUrl property of a Hyperlink in an ItemTemplate if the url is:
"http://domain.com/viewprofile.aspx?id=" + 'THE UserID property of the current element in the list'
i wanted to retrieve things from the data base and perform mathmatical operations on it then post it to the user, so i was told to use the bullited list and bind it to the object dataSource
I have an xml repeater deployed on two different pages. On the "News" page, I'd like to show all the items (which works fine), but on the "Home" page I'd only like to display the three most recent items. The code I'm using is below.
I've read that you should write repeaterControl.DataSource = null to clear the items in the control, but it doesn't work. Does anyone have any tips or links to articles about this problem?
Here is the situation I have, I have a repeater inside a Usercontrol. The datasource is a IEnumerable<Investor> Exposed through a UserControl's Property. I have overridden the UserControl's databind event to set the Repeater Datasource before databinding the repeater. When it's not a postback, it databinds find and the events on the repeater item's controls fires up fine. But there is one event on repeater items (Delete Investor) which call back the DataBind of the UserControl after removing the Investor from de datasource. When this Event is called, it does all the work (deleting the investor and so on...) calls back the usercontrol's databind but when (within the usercontrol databind) the repeater is databinded again, the repeater items doesn't update (repeater items for investor not on the DataSource anymore still appears). My ItemDataBind doesn't even fire by then.
[Code]....
and code bedind
[Code]....
I Tried with both the Repeater Item Command and each LinkButton Event to see if it would make any difference, but none worked
I am currently in the process of writing a facebook type 'activity feed' for a site. Currently I am binding the last 10 items to a repeater control, which contains a usercontrol representing each item. The requirement is that when a user clicks a refresh button any new events are added to the top of the list, the previous items drop down and the equivalent number of old items drop off the bottom, all with nice slider transitions. I have put the repeater inside of an update control and are able to handle the transitions by using RegisterStartup script to drop jquery calls onto the page for the slider. However I cannot find a way to dynamically add or remove new datarows to the repeater.
I need the old items to stay in the repeater and be pushed down by the new items, so completely refreshing the datasource seems like a bad idea.I was thinking about maybe storing the datasource in the viewstate and adding rows to that, maybe with an extra column on the end which stores what transition is needed on the databind for my jquery, but there will be a 'View more items' link at the bottom of the page, so I am worried that the list could get pretty large and there would be a big problem with memory.
I have al list that I would like to populate with new items from a textbox. But when I add a new Item it overwrites the old list with te "new" list. I declared the list outside the method so I don't know what the problem is.
just want to have a quick question about the value of dropdownlist listitem. I have a gridview which has its datakey value linked to a dropdownlist. In the dropdownlist I have many listitems. So I decided to combine some list items together. Originally, the values of the items are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. But I want to have only 5 items by combining 5,6,7,8 into one listitem called "Others." So if the listitem "Others" is selected, the gridview will show all the records that have value 5 or 6 or 7 or 8. Is it possible? How can that be done?
I hope I made myself clear. Any question, I am happy to clarify.
For every search result I create a dropdown list with 2 month booking overview.
<ddl>
January - February

February - March

etc.
Then I call function to generate 2 months calendar view, which has two parameters generate(startmonth as Integer, sku as string)
Everything works when I hardcode starmonth as some integer.
I spent all day with no progress on how to pass value. I need a guide. I guess second problem will be to restore changed dropdown values on Postback, but one step at a time.
But what I want to do, to pass selected item value, to function, that would change view for property associated with this dropdown.
I have a repeater which contains dropdown list in it.
The items in the dropdown list are all the same at fist.
But if i select a item in one dropdown, then the selected item will be deleted in the other dropdown list.
For example A, B, C, D,E are the five items in dropdown list, and repeater has three lines.
If A is selected in the dropdown list in the first line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the other lines will only have four items to select, they are B, C, D, E.
If then D is selected in the dropdown list in the third line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the second line will only have B, C, E to choose.
I can do this in csharp code, how can i do it in .aspx page?
I am attempting to bind a Repeater (but it could be a GridView or ListView) to a list of objects. The List's type is an abstract type, which has two different classes derived from it, both with different properties. Because they have different properties, I cannot just have one ItemTemplate. If I bind a control to a property of one type of class and the other type doesn't have it, it throws an error.
Here's where I'm at:
I cannot use <% if (whatever) { %> some stuff <% } else { %> some other stuff <% } %> because I cannot access the databound item to make the choice based on its type. I cannot use the <%# %> syntax, which lets me use the databound information, because you cannot code logic like if...then...else. I cannot (rather not) call a function and return a string with the code because what I want to render is complex and contains further nested databound controls. Has anyone found an ingenious way of doing if it is this type of object, display these controls, else display these other controls?
I have a repeater that displays a list of job openings. I now need to modify the repeater and break out the job openings by category.
See below for the existing code for my repeater. I'm not sure how I need to modify my repeater to display the jobs under the appropriate categories.
I've added a new JobsCategory table to the database and added the foreign key relationship between my jobListing table and the jobcategory table.
I've created a new stored procedure to pull the jobs my category:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetJobsByCategory] @categoryId int AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON SELECT j.JobID, j.JobTitle, j.URL, j.City, j.State, j.Country, c.CategoryName FROM ADPJobListing j INNER JOIN ADPJobCategory c ON j.CategoryID = c.CategoryID WHERE j.CategoryID = @categoryId END
In my typed dataset (tableadapter), I'll add a new query to the above stored procedure and finally in my business logic layer, I'll add a new method to call down into my data access layer:
[DataObjectMethod(DataObjectMethodType.Select, false)] public ADP.JobsDataTable GetJobsByCategory(int categoryId) { return this.Adapter.GetJobsByCategory(categoryId); }
How do I need to modify my repeater to display the jobs by category?
Is it possible to assign a colour to a drop down list item based on it's value? For example: I have a drop downlist where I've got a bunch of items that have integer
values. I would like to highlight the items with values in 1000s in grey.
I've boldified the items I'd like to be highlighted in grey ,For added complexity I need to highlight the items with values 1000 in a light shade of gray and items with values 2000 in a darker shade of grey. I'm using Web Developer, and C#
I have a DropDownList inside the EditTemplateItem (if the user clicks edit) in a GridView. The DropDownList receives all available rows from the database. My problem is,if the user clicks Edit in the GridView to edit a row and opens the DropDownList Box the original item is not selected but the first one. That means the items are sorted. Have someone an idea how I can solve this issue that the right item / the original is selected if I change to edit mode of the grid view?
using asp.net 4 and vs 2010 I have a listview that displays data from a database. I have to configure it to display all column data where present, however, not all columns have data, with the result that blank spaces get rendered where this data would normally be displayed.
The code:
[Code]....
So, for example, some of the individuals that exist in this table might no longer be associated with a specific department, institution or have data in the "Address2" column.
On my website, registered users can make a profile about themselves suchas name, Favoirite color, hobbies, etcI have a DataTable called User which hold this information.also there are other datatables for Hobbies and Colors which list all possible options. To let the user update their choices I have a FormView in Edit mode on the aspx page whichis binded to the UserTable with a GetProfileByUserId Method and objectdatasource.
Within the formview, i have added drop down lists that are binded to the hobbies and Colors tables so they can edit their previous selection. On clicking Uodate update formview calls an Update Method that adds new selections to the User databaseNow I have two questionsIs it possible to show in the dropdown list the selected value that the User has already made?If the user only changes hobbies and not colors when they click update will a null value be passed into the data table for colors that replaces their previous selection?
Nested Repeater Issue: Each category list gets populated with the same set of date values rather then being populated with the data associated with that category. Trying to Do: Trying to group FAQ's by category and then list them using the repeaters.
The data is queryed though a business logic layer object that makes a call to the data access layer object. The data access layer object uses linq to sql to return data. There are 3 parameters that are passed into the innerDataSource's ObjectDataSource control to populate the nested repeater control (propID, CatID, isVisible).
With the debugger, the correct data is being returned and written to the nested repeater firing from the nested repeater's ItemDataBound event. Once this event is finished, another event fires and runs the FAQRule object again on the business logic layer which re-populates the nested repeater with the same data for each category. I have 2 repeaters, outerRepater (parent) and innerRepeater(child) with 2 ObjectDataSource controls innerDataSource and outerDataSource. See code below : ASP Page:
