using a linq to sql datacontext db, I want to retrieve a sequence of items with the code below [Code]....
I have a listview in which I have a dropdownlist that will be repeated about 8 times. In the itemdatabound event of this listview, I fill the dropdownlist of that particular row with data. I obtain this data by using a linq query. It gets me an anonymous type in return:

The problem with this code is that I fire a query to the database everytime the itemdataboundevent is called. What I want to do is to fire the query only once, and have it available at page scope so I can reference it in the itemdatabound event. How can I get it like that?
I have a situation where I want to show the selected records out of total records for a product of an employee
1) There is a checkbox list bind to <List> of objects from object datasource (For total items in list)
2) Now I want to check the selected items for a particular record in this list
3) For this purpose I have another list of <List> selected items returned by data access layer (For selected items for that employee )
4) How do I bind the selected objects with the total items list ?
5) In spaghetti coding model it was all too easy just by binding the checkbox list with a sql data source and running a for each on form load
I want to retrieve the data items for each row in the gridview.
But it return null. How can I get the values??

I have al list that I would like to populate with new items from a textbox. But when I add a new Item it overwrites the old list with te "new" list. I declared the list outside the method so I don't know what the problem is.

just want to have a quick question about the value of dropdownlist listitem. I have a gridview which has its datakey value linked to a dropdownlist. In the dropdownlist I have many listitems. So I decided to combine some list items together. Originally, the values of the items are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. But I want to have only 5 items by combining 5,6,7,8 into one listitem called "Others." So if the listitem "Others" is selected, the gridview will show all the records that have value 5 or 6 or 7 or 8. Is it possible? How can that be done?

I have a DropDownList inside the EditTemplateItem (if the user clicks edit) in a GridView.The DropDownList receives all available rows from the database. My problem is,if the user clicks Edit in the GridView to edit a row and opens the DropDownList Box the original item is not selected but the first one.That means the items are sorted. Within the formview, i have added drop down lists that are binded to the hobbies and Colors tables so they can edit their previous selection.On clicking Uodate update formview calls an Update Method that adds new selections to the User databaseNow I have two questionsIs it possible to show in the dropdown list the selected value that the User has already made?If the user only changes hobbies and not colors when they click update will a null value be passed into the data table for colors that replaces their previous selection?

It basically is 4 questions with each answer assigned a value.
What I would like to do is when the button is clicked the selected values are retrieved and calculated to give a total.
That total is then compared against some common totals and the next value is shown.
So is the total is 8= Very Good, 6= Very Bad, 4= Terrible etc.
The two labels Result and Truth would sho the numerical result and the truth according to the scale.
I am at a loss on how to retrieve the list button clicked value, how to add them up and referance that to the Truth result.

I use a ModalpopupExtender to show a dialog to the user which consist of a CheckBoxList control that is bound to a session table. The user can check/uncheck the CheckBoxList items and click the Ok control to close the ModalPopUp. How can I retrieve the values of the CheckBoxList items controls using JavaScript (seems like I cannot do it using server side scripting)?

The only method I can think of (from my limited experience!) is to have a separate VB function for each value, to run separate SELECT queries for each field, and then to set the (Text via asp:Label)

In my Web Method I retrieve my data from the database as a DataTable:

I then retrieve the data from the DataTable into an anonymous type:

This all works great.
However, I would like to extend the code to perform some evaluation checks (e.g., check that various columns in the DataTable are not NULL) and other pre-processing (e.g., call various functions to build the image URL based on the image ID - which is another column in the DataTable not shown in the code fragment) before I return the resulting rows of the DataTable as an anonymous type to the client-side.Basically, I want to iterate through the DataTable, perform the evaluation checks and pre-processing, while building my anonymous type manually as I go. Or maybe there is a better way to achieve this?
