Sometimes the database clears everything and keeps the original status record.I don't know why this won't update,
[Code]....
I have an ASP.NET web form application that on the server side I need to know the user's identity. I do not need to impersonate the user. I just need their username so I can update some records in a database correctly.When the request is processed I have the following line of code:
string userName = Request.LogonUserIdentity.Name;
if(true == string.IsNullOrEmpty(userName))
{
logger.logwarning("missing username");
}
else
{
logger.loginfo("update by {0}", userName);
}
In my development & QA environment this works perfectly - I see the userName in the log file and all of the database records have the lastModifiedBy field filled in correctly. However, when we go to production - userName is an empty string.
i got a problem to update my database which i bounded to datagrid. The problem is, i want to update my database only by clicking one update button at the bottom.. when the user click it, all the fields will be updated to database.

View 1 RepliesAm trying to build a page that will display one record at a time. That is the user searches a records table and the page displays the record. Than when the user us done making any changes and clicks save, i want the page to update the records table. So far, i have the page displaying the search results, but the save functionality is not working. Actually after changing an entry and the save button is clicked, the records change are currently reverting back to the old data that they want to change it from. How do i go about updating the records in the database? Here is the code that I have been able to come up with so far.

View 17 RepliesI have just used the Import and Export Wizard to copy my production SQL Server database, which uses Membership and Roles. I used the option to copy all the data from existing tables and views and did not modify the mapping in any way. Things do not seem to have gone well.....
My source database has a bunch of views with names like vw_aspnet_Applications,vw_aspnet_MembershipUsers, etc. The copy database has these listed as tables!I wondered if running aspnet_regsql.exe might fix things. I needed to run this anyway to create all the missing stored procedures for Membership, etc. However, it failed with the error:Setup failed.Exception:An error occurred during the execution of the SQL file 'InstallCommon.sql'. The SQL error number is 2714 and the SqlException message is: There is already an object named 'vw_aspnet_Applications' in the database.Creating the vw_aspnet_Applications view...I am a bit lost. All I want to do is to create a total clone of my production database for test purposes. Where do I go from here?
I am *VERY* new to ASP.net. This may seem simple to you all, but I'm really lost. I have a small sized page with three text boxes (part of the InsertItemTemplate) of a formview, and a slightly modified link the system generated to submit the data to be inserted in the database:
[Code]....
If this page is run, it inserts the data into the database fine, clears the form and sits there. I want it to return a simple "Thank you" page in a window of the same size, with a Close Window buttom at the bottom to close the window:
[Code]....
When I set the postbackurl property on the first page, everything appears to work, except the write is never done to the database. If I remove the postback, it works as it did previously.
through clicking the title from gridview it willl update the status of the lecture from 0 to 1
0 means new while 1 means already opened..

I have been stuck on this for a while and I can't seem to get it to work despite looking for answers in books and all over the web, so I hope perhaps you all can help me figure this out...
Here's what I'm trying to do....
I have some information in a simple product database displaying in a gridview table. One of the columns is a row of checkboxes indicating whether the item has been discontinued or not. When the row gets updated, it needs to update the checkbox value in the database.
1. It needs to be disabled until the row is getting edited.
2. Send the string value of 0 or 1 to the database when the row is updated.
Here's the code for the sql datasource and the gridview part in question...
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:sqlDataMaster %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:sqlDataMaster.ProviderName %>"

I've been searching for a tutorial or example on how to update my database when I change the text in the textbox that is in a DataList?
View 8 RepliesI have two databases. When I am using MS Visual Web Developer, I can drag the table onto the webpage and it gives me check boxes to Insert, Update, Delete,...When I do the exact thing using the other database, it only has check boxes forpaging, sorting and selection. What is the difference? I seem to have all teh same permissions in both databases.
View 2 RepliesI need a control to modify data from my data base tables like a GridView. Has ASP.NET the control that I need implemented? Who could I do that?
View 2 RepliesI have a gridview in a page, and some Texboxes along with a button(for issuing a command) in the same page. The TextBoxs were inputted values and the values could be assigned to the selected row of the gridview, some fields are the same values along the rows, and the values are inputted in the TextBoxes for using several times without change.
Well, I need to know: how can I assign the values of the TextBoxes to the selected row of the gridview. in another words, how can I access the cell members of the gridview when it is in edit mode? (Q1)
If the row is not selected, I have no way to know which row should be assigned values, since there is no such things like "current row".
So, if the selecting button(or link) of the gridview is not selected, the button along with the TextBoxes should keep disabled, until a row's "Edit" button is clicked. (Q2: How can I find if the Edit button is clicked? I guess I can use the property "mode" of the gridview to indicate the situation. )
And the last question is (Q3), how can I ensure the values are updated to the database? Maybe I dont need to do more things than just click the uppdate button of the row of the gridview.
I'm using SqlDataSource and at the point of adding a record, I've called SqlDataSource_UploadNewsLetter_Inserting. In here, I'm testing a value, and if it's true, I need to stop the insert from taking place. But how can I stop the database insert at this point?
View 2 RepliesI have a GridView with a DropDownList in it bound to the [Applicants] table in SQL Server 2005.
The DropDownList Items Text and Value come from SqlDataSource3, "SELECT VoucherType, VoucherNumber FROM [Vouchers]"
I need to send the DDLs selected Text to [Applicants].[VoucherTypeIssued] and the Value to [Applicants]. VoucherNumber]
I already have a "dlVoucherTypeIssued_SelectedIndexChanged" event in the code behind to put "Voucher Issued" into [dbo].[Vouchers].[VoucherStatus]. I'm having trouble getting all three values written to the database at the same time.
I have take a datagrid view and now i want to update the records as the database is been normalized i need to enter the multiple rows at once. How you I convert the datagrid to enter the data so that it would be easy for me to update the records?
