Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownlist Width / Can Set The Width Property Of The List To Display Wider Than The Field Itself

Oct 4, 2010

I have a dropdown list in a gridview field. The DataValueField for the ddl is an 8 digit item code. The text to display through will be quite longer, 40-60 characters because it will combine the item code and item name into a single string. I don't want the dropdownlist field to be that wide though, only what is displayed when the ddl is selected.In Access you can set the width property of the list to display wider than the field itself. Is there that capability in ASP.NET and if so where do I find it?

Display Contents In Webpage W/ Width Greater Than Screen Without Displaying Horizontal Scrollbars?

Jun 25, 2010

It'll be hard to explain, but here goes...I have a 3-col table that measures 1200px wide... the middle column measures 800px and includes all the contents, and both remaining rows measure 200px each and have "nice-to-display-but-optional" images (each has a 200px image).On a 1400px display, my table will display with no problems. On the other hand, if the screen is 1000px, then it'll display the scrollbars so it can fit the 1200px of contents.

How can I set the table (or any other html container) so that a 1000px screen only displays what fits on the screen without displaying the scrollbar?In this case, a 1000px would display the middle 800px column, and whatever fits on the sides (half of the 200px images). But the scrollbars would not be displayed, and the images would not be altered so that they fit in the remaining space.

Forms Data Controls :: To Set The Width Of A GridView To A Pre-determined Width?

Oct 5, 2010

Is there any way to set the width of a GridView to a pre-determined width?

I have set the width of the gridview and all the columns to a % and then to a number of pixels but it does work. The gridview always sets itself to a width required to display all fields and it goes beyond the resolution of the screen. I would like to contain it to 1024 pixels.

Forms Data Controls :: DropDownList Control In A LoginView Control?

Nov 15, 2010

I've put a DropDownList control within a LoginView control. I've got 2 SqlDataSource controls outside of the LoginView control, with the intent of databinding the items that comprise the ListItems of the DropDownList control, and another one for the data is stored in another table which has what was previously saved for the selection. However, when I've assign the SqlDataSource control to the DropDownList control's DataSourceID for the lookup table, I'm used to seeing the fields from the SqlDataSource control appearing in the DataTextField and DataValueField properties. However, they're not appearing there at all. Moreover, even when I try to type them in, its as if VS 2010 refuses to allow them.

Web Forms :: DropDownList With Multiline ListItems - Expands The Width Of The List

Jul 28, 2010

I have a DropdownList where some of the items are longer then the width of the list. Firefox expands the width of the list and shws the full length of the ListItem, but Explorer (som people still use that) doesn't do that which results unability to read the whole of the ListItem. I added a "Title" attribute (Tooltip) to the ListItems which shows the full text but even though, the client asks if it's possible to split long ListItems in several lines so user will be able to read it without needing the Tooltip.

Forms Data Controls :: Filtering GridView Data Via DropDownList Control?

Apr 10, 2010

I've got a GridView populated via a SqlDataSource whose Select command is controlled by a DropDownList. This is all working nicely:

How do I support the "All" user choice:

In other words, when the user selects "All" there are no aircraft names that match that so nothing is returned. Instead, I'd like the select statement to skip the WHERE clause in this case and just show everything. Do I need to create a second page for this case or is there a way to programmatically alter the SELECT command or some other way to accomplish this?

Forms Data Controls :: Understanding Dropdownlist Within A Repeater Control

Sep 26, 2010

Asp.net 3.5 using code behind I am using a repeater control. My datasource appears in code behind. I decided to NOT have my listitems populate from the database. I want the user to select a value, send it to the database via an update statement, and then when the user returns to the page (on pageload), have the user's previous selections appear on the screen. note the following:

When I use textboxes and labels, ALL of my data appears within the table of the repeater control. However, when I replaced one of the text boxes (originally used for testing purposes only) with a dropdownlist, I get the following error message'ddlDDuring' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.Parameter name: value My Repeater1_ItemCommandI updates the data within the repeater perfectly. On page load, I want the data from the database to display as the dropdownlist's selected value (or selected item.text). Here is my Asp code

<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server"
onitemcommand="Repeater1_ItemCommand">
---
<
td><asp:Dropdownlist ID="ddlDDuring" runat=server SelectedValue ='<%#Bind("DueDuring")%>' >
<asp:ListItem Value="-select-" Text="-select-" />
<asp:ListItem Value="1st half" Text="1st half" />
<asp:ListItem Value="2nd half" Text="2nd half" />
<asp:ListItem Value="Split" Text="Split" />
</asp:Dropdownlist> </td>
---
C# code behind
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
---
string myConnectString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectString);
strSelect = "SELECT * FROM UserExpenses WHERE UserId=@UserId";
mySqlCmd = new SqlCommand(strSelect, myConnection);
myConnection.Open();
mySqlCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserId", LoggedOnUserId);
myReader = mySqlCmd.ExecuteReader();
Repeater1.DataSource = myReader;
Repeater1.DataBind();
myReader.Close();
myReader = mySqlCmd.ExecuteReader();
while (myReader.Read())
{
ExpAmount = Convert.ToDouble(myReader["Amount"]);
TotExp += ExpAmount;
---

I tried the following code changes on asp page: I changed "SelectedValue" to "Text" and still get the same error message I changed "SelectedValue" to "SelectedItem" and don't get the error message, but dropdown is not populated I set AppendDataBoundItems = true Set first list item value = "" Verified that every field in the table column matched the items in the dropdown list. There were NO null fields in the database.

I just want to understand this error message, as I have exhausted all that I am doing. I also made an attempt to bind the dropdown list, but sine this can only be done within the loop of finding the repeater control, I would either get an error message, or it just would not work.

Forms Data Controls :: DropDownList Control Says Null Value On Insert?

Jan 13, 2011

here is my latest bit of insanity. I'm using a formview control. In the insert template, I'm grabbing applicable values from my AD to populate a dropdown list. I select the user I want to insert, enter the other pieces of info required for my request and click Insert. The query responds back stating that the userid is NULL. So the big question in my mind is how can I bind userid to the dropdownlist if I'm populating that from the code behind? Here's my code behind code for that list:
