Forms Data Controls :: Dynamically Generating Update/delete Statements For A DetailsView Control?

In my Admin page, I have a drop down list containing all current user tables in the database. The user chooses one.
My DetailsView below uses that parameter to populate itself with data from that table. The stored procedure used to select the data passes a string to sp_executesql. The string is concatenated from a select statement and the tablename parameter. Can I do something similar for Update/Delete statements? I'm not sure of the best approach, given that I won't know which/how many fields will be in the DetailsView at runtime, and which of these are keys - the choice of table depends on the user. I think Insert will be straightforward - am I right? I would like to streamline things as far as possible. Is it possible to dynamically pass in the values in, say, a string, and get my stored procedure to understand them? And what's the best method of grabbing the values from the DetailsView in this situation?
Before I get too far down the road I just want some advice. I'm building a web app using VWD2008 and MySQL 5. I've got the membership provider stuff working fine and have an odbc connection setup which works "fine". what I've noticed is that when I configure a new sqldatasource (that will be used to provide data to a listview or something) the Advanced -> generate Insert,Update..... option is disabled. I'm assuming its because of the sql syntax difference of the square brackets issue between MS SQL Server and MySQL.
Before I start writing all my own insert and update statements does anyone know if there is a way to get MySQL and VWD to talk the same language, maybe a different connector or something. I'm using mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.15
I'm using the 'Configure Data Source' wizard to connect to my database and show the dataset in Gridview. I want to be able to update, insert and delete entries but am unsure how to build the query. I can write simple update statments to change database entries but how can I do this for entries that have been changed within the gridview?
I have made a DetailsView which in DetailsView there is action to add the data, change data and delete the data ..how to save, change, delete data, which is in the DetailsView without saving it in the database?so far I use viewstate, but I do not know how to apply it in DetailsView ..

I have a gridview and when i click on the edit button i will get the modalpopup window which is having a popup window i want to update the data in that details view and refresh the data into gridview also.
VS 2008 ASP.NET 3.5 app connecting to an MS SQL 2005 backend. The app contains a strongly typed dataset with a number of TableAdapters. I'm trying to add a query to one of the TableAdapters that deletes from table A, then related entries from table B, then related entries in the master table - table C. The query looks like this:

When I try to run that query to test it out, an error dialog box pops up that says "Unable to parse query text" followed by a second error dialog box that says "Must declare scalar variable @ID". Will the TableAdapters not run sequential Delete statements like this or did I do something wrong?
**Side note: A cascading Delete foriegn key relationship would be ideal, and was configured on the development database, but the DBAs messed up when replicating the database on the production server and getting them to fix something like this can be a difficult process.
I am displaying the output of a LINQ query in a Detailsview control. I have a Detailsview called DetailsCaAb and a DropDownList called DropDownList2, when the use makes a selection from DropDownList2 the Linq query fetches the data CatAbstract from the table CatagoryTables. e.g.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to control what is displayed by the DetailsView, I only want to display CatAbstract, but the details view generates another column called Items. How do I ensure only the data I want is displayed? I need a way of controlling the columns generated programmatically.
I'm struggling with trying to use RIA services from an ASP.NET web site.I created a new web site, added an entity framework model, then added a RIA service that uses that model. I used the DomainDataSource control to bind the ASP.NET controls to the RIA service
I created 3 category table. categry1,categry2,categry3. product table.
And then use of gried view add ,edit ,update ,delete product . in product table.
In gridview retrive data from product table . i select categry from dropdownlist in gridview categry1, categry2, categry3 and save update dropdown list category value dynamically in product table. not define value static in source code.
When select category 1 change on selected index change categary 2 or 3.

and that allows editing. Is it possible to have multiple update statements when editing from he gridview? Each day will need a separate update state since the data will be stored in the database like this

I think for each row I would need 7 update statements - one for each day. Is this possible with the gridview edit button?
I am using VS 2008 SP1. My also have included CSS Friendly adapter [URL] in my project ( I mentioned this because my GridView Empty data template is not showing when using GridView's CCS Friendly adapter). I have a GridView and a DetailsView. When a record in GridView is selected its details information is shown in the Details View. Type of Data source I am using is ObjectDataSource. My Insert and Update methods works perfectly. It is only the Delete method that is passing null values to the underlying object delete method. My source codes for both the UI, BLL, DAL is shown below
It should be simple, but I didn't found yet how to do it. There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. How I am doing it in C# code? Showing/Hiding these buttons?
im trying to add edit button in my gridview. when click in that row the values will automatically filled up the textbox. Im done w/ remove button. here is my code
currently have a page that I use to allow users to edit information for their attending group. They can edit names, sex, tshirt sizes etc. All they have to do is selsct their club from the gridview and the details are bound to the detailsview. They edit then click submit. What I now want to accomplish is a similar page that deletes members. I know gridviews come with a delete button you can enable, but I need it to fit in with my custom code-behind. I want users to select the member they want to remove from their registration, that persons details to pop up as text in the details view positioned below the gridview (as text, not as text boxes), ask them to confirm the delete by clicking the delete button in the detailsview. I'm really not proficient at VB or ASP.Net, I just got thrust into this project, so any help would be amazing. I'd like to know how the thing works though. Below is the code I use for the editing.
I have both a details view and gridview with deleting enabled. I'm concerned about users accidentally clicking delete, and poof, the record is gone. Is there a setting to get a confirmation message before the delete is actually done?
I am using the multiview which on one view has my gridivew and the other has my detailsview. What I'm trying to do is take an instance of a control, and figure out what the markup would look like based on the property values set in the code behind. We've built a web-based web form designer. At the end of the design process we save the markup. For simple controls with supported types, generating the markup was easy. For complex controls with nested properties or unsupported types, we're faced with creating a custom markup generator for each custom control. I was hoping to find info out there that would jump start this development effort.

I have created DetailsView in designer page with SqlDataSource, Details view is with autoGenerateRows="false" i.e. I have declared my own fields. it is fine there, but what if I want to add these fields dynamically from codebehind with select & edit commands. I want to to use Details View in designer page and want to add fields from codebehind
I have a working gridView/DetailsView used as a member Lookup.
Some Fields in the Details View have data only some of the time, and when there isn't any, I want to suppress that row of the detail. No Go.
It seems that some of the function available in other controls don't exist so I cannot make the "field and its "header" Visible = "False"

how to stop this code from proceeding to the update?
I am trying to update a record using a details view. When the update button is pressed nothing happens, even if I check the db then the record is all the same. No error occurs but there is no update. I am using OLEDB connection with a db2 DB.
