I've got a GridView in which all rows are set to Edit by default.
I want to be able to save the rows only where changes have been made. At present, my code will only update the first row from my GridView to my database. I've had a look on the internet, and think that the Getchanges might be able to help me, but I'm struggling to work our how exactly to implement it in my scenario.

I am using untyped database bind to gridview in an edit form. Now user makes some changes to that datatable (update, delete, insert). How do I detect which rows he changes and which rows he deleted (so I drop them from DB). I know it can be done easily via table adapters but I am supporting a previously built app using untyped datatables/datasets.

Up to this its working fine but when no textbox updated then no need to go in for loop so i am looking for confiramtion before updating rows please help me how to do that becausei am less aware with javascript. another problem is textbox value disappear when page index changed how i can retain that values.
I have a gridview where I am opening a popup page when user selects a row. If I am not using update panel then Select button is able to open popup page.
If I am adding Update panel, the popup page is unable to open. What could be the cause?

I have a set of dataset with different column retrieved from DB. I need to present the datasets in one GridView (or other ListView etc...) without specifying the column_header. It should present automaticly since the GridView is bind to the DataSet.

I know how to bind the columns to a grid and its no problem to create such a dropdown list with the content for me, too. But i dont know how to sort the complete datatabl after changing one value of one dropdown listbox.

My purpose is to modified some data only for current page in a gridview. I call this function in page load and GridView_PageIndexChanged events. When it's called in page load event, it works fine. But when it's called in PageIndexChanged event, only the rows on the first page in GridView are looped through. For example, if I click page 5, the rowStartIndex becomes 100 = 5 x 20 (my pagesize). The if condition becomes itemsRead >= 100 andAlso itemsRead < 120. But after itemsRead is increased to 19, the For each gridViewRow loop stops and the if condition is never satisfied.
i've dynamically created new rows on button click in gridview with 3 dropdownlist.for the first default row the selectindexchanged is firing and on pageload 1st ddl is loading with values and basing on selection the second ddl is showing values and third ddl is showing basing on second ddl. Now, when i click add new row, a new row is created with 3 ddl's ...1st one is showing properly but when i select from that ddl ,it should show data accordingly but its not showing particular data but showing all realted data from DB.same for 3rd ddl.
Also when new row is added and the first ddl is selected on postback the second ddl data is refreshing..

When I click the update button, I want to update only 2 columns. So I made rest of columns readonly=true.

BUT The rows displaying "Expired" (value less than 0) showing error. It says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
does anyone know if the gridview can tell you if a cell's contents have changed (during an edit) in order to determine if an update should be made against the database?

I have some SQL table with few columns (fileId(int), fileName, copies, color and finish), the page is build in a way, that the user upload few files (the files uploads to some folder, and the fileId and fileName are write to the above SQL table - so the other columns (copies, color, finish) are stay blank - which is OK!!!) after he finished uploading the files he can see the files names in GridView and in that grid view i put some textbox for copies, and 2 DDL for color and comments. I need to update the rows with the new data after the user click some button (the all rows) this is the code:

I have a dropdownlist as a template item in a gridview - it populates fine and with the right values. I have an SelectedIndexChanged on the dropdownlist, and has set it for postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event, I would like to know where the control that fired this event is, - which row in the gridview is it in? How do I get this info? If the row was selected it would be easy, but the only thing that has happened in that row is that the dropdown has changed value and consequently the SelectedIndexChanged event has been fired - is that enough to know which row the event has been fired from?
View 1 RepliesI have a Gridview with about 6 templated columns hooked up to SQL, with a Save button below the grid.
When save is clicked, I loop through each row, and write each row back out to SQL.
Can you recommend a good way for me to tell whether the row has changed so I can avoid re-writing the row when nothing has changed?
This is not only for performance, but I also have a request to write out a "Last Modified Date" along with each record. So for that, I would need to know whether the row has changed.
I saw someone mentioned that the Gridview.RowState could be used for this, but I don't see how.
One alternative I see is to re-read each row from the database first, to see if anything changed. Another alternative might be to set a dirty-bit on each Textchanged, SelectedItemChanged, etc, for the row, but I'm not sure where to store that.
I have Gridview which allows user to edit record.I already build the event to save the new record, time and user machine information to a log database.However, this means a whole record is saved to the log... if the user just change one or two column/field out of say 20 fields, then there is a lot of waste. Also the change is not obvious.How can I log exactly which field(s) was changed in the record ?
View 1 RepliesNeed to have the ability to change the view of my gridview based on button click, the easiest i can describe what im trying to do and need is if you have every been on any e-comm site where you get a list of items presented to you.. normally you may get a thumbnail, description and price.. but at the top of that list you get the option to view it as a list with no thumbnails and so on..
Is gridview the best control to be using if i want to do that? example of what im needing is similar to walmart.com
if you search for a product doesnt matter, when the results are presented to you, you have it in what they call "List View", but you have the option to view it in "Grid View", not sure if they are actually using listview and gridview controls.. but i want the same end results..

I want to add multiple rows of a gridview if the data for multiple fields are same.Idea for this is that a user may search a record with some parameter e.g. Sector, plot.For example 15 records being displayed in gridview.There should be checkbox before every row and if user wants to update Plot and Flat No that is same for 10 rows out of 15 so he will check the rows and update.For this a dialog box should appear asking for the parameter i.e. Plot and Flat or something else next time may be it will be City or country. Moreover, there is already an Edit button to update records, when user click it another page open for the record to be updated and whatever he wants to update, it updates.
View 11 RepliesI have a gridview with paging. I have a style set for a selected row (highlights the row in light orange). What i would like to do is that each time a user chamges the page, the selectedIndex & selectedRow automatically becomes the 1st row of the selected page. So i would like to see the orange highlight on the 1st row of the page to indicate that the row has been selected.
I have tried GridView1.SelectedIndex=0 but this only seems to select the index of the 1st record in the whole datagrid. Does anyone know of how to set the 1st row of the page to the selected row each time the pageindex is changed?
