Sep 23, 2010does anyone know if the gridview can tell you if a cell's contents have changed (during an edit) in order to determine if an update should be made against the database?

However, when I go to sort it on the website it sorts it based off the previous values.Cell(17) from the datasource reads in all 1's. The numbers I change it to range from 0 to 15. So when I click sort nothing changes because it sees it as all 1's.How can i make the gridivew sort off the changed text values?

Jun 26, 2010I have a dropdownlist as a template item in a gridview - it populates fine and with the right values. I have an SelectedIndexChanged on the dropdownlist, and has set it for postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event, I would like to know where the control that fired this event is, - which row in the gridview is it in? How do I get this info? If the row was selected it would be easy, but the only thing that has happened in that row is that the dropdown has changed value and consequently the SelectedIndexChanged event has been fired - is that enough to know which row the event has been fired from?

Feb 1, 2011I have a Gridview with about 6 templated columns hooked up to SQL, with a Save button below the grid.
When save is clicked, I loop through each row, and write each row back out to SQL.
Can you recommend a good way for me to tell whether the row has changed so I can avoid re-writing the row when nothing has changed?
This is not only for performance, but I also have a request to write out a "Last Modified Date" along with each record. So for that, I would need to know whether the row has changed.
I saw someone mentioned that the Gridview.RowState could be used for this, but I don't see how.
One alternative I see is to re-read each row from the database first, to see if anything changed. Another alternative might be to set a dirty-bit on each Textchanged, SelectedItemChanged, etc, for the row, but I'm not sure where to store that.

Oct 13, 2010I have Gridview which allows user to edit record.I already build the event to save the new record, time and user machine information to a log database.However, this means a whole record is saved to the log... if the user just change one or two column/field out of say 20 fields, then there is a lot of waste. Oct 22, 2010Need to have the ability to change the view of my gridview based on button click, the easiest i can describe what im trying to do and need is if you have every been on any e-comm site where you get a list of items presented to you.. normally you may get a thumbnail, description and price.. but at the top of that list you get the option to view it as a list with no thumbnails and so on..
Is gridview the best control to be using if i want to do that? example of what im needing is similar to walmart.com
if you search for a product doesnt matter, when the results are presented to you, you have it in what they call "List View", but you have the option to view it in "Grid View", not sure if they are actually using listview and gridview controls.. but i want the same end results..
What would i use or what can i search on to accomplish the same thing.

Jan 14, 2010I have a gridview with paging. I have a style set for a selected row (highlights the row in light orange). What i would like to do is that each time a user chamges the page, the selectedIndex & selectedRow automatically becomes the 1st row of the selected page. So i would like to see the orange highlight on the 1st row of the page to indicate that the row has been selected.
I have tried GridView1.SelectedIndex=0 but this only seems to select the index of the 1st record in the whole datagrid. Does anyone know of how to set the 1st row of the page to the selected row each time the pageindex is changed?

I am open to use any control i.e. Grid/ DataGrid provided it allows me to set Cell Height and item source at Cell level. In my requirement, Cell height depends on the Item duration and size of image, which means the height of the cells may not be same across cells in any particular row.

Sep 10, 2010I have a gridview control that extends the default gridview. I have added an attribute called "hiddenSelectedValues" to to the gridview during the "PreRender" event and I have a private variable that points to the value of that attribute.
I have some javascript code that modifies the value of this attribute based on the user checking or unchecking checkboxes in the grid. I have confirmed that the javascript is indeed modifying the value of the "hiddenSelectedValues" attribute by using Firebug to see the change as it happens.
However, once a postback occurs, the grid looses the updated value of this attribute and I am unable to reference get the updated value on the server side.
How do I keep the value of an attribute changed by javascript on postback?

It does not give me any errors and seems to work but the grid view cell do not take this session. When I'm clicking on the edit hyperlink this event is triggered.
