Forms Data Controls :: Get Text Value In Gridview From Invisible Field?

I've run into this before, but I was using a formsview and just changed the field to hidden. I am trying to get the value of a cell out of a gridview to a variable and here is the code:

This works perfectly if column 6 is visible, but because it's an id number (which is not the primary key) I do not want it visible, but changing it to visible="false" causes this code to return null. Changing it back to visible and it works.
I'm not sure why the visiblity of a control changes the functionality of it.
I have 2 fields in my gridview one called ScriptType the other BagNo, when a user click the edit button, I would like the BagNo filed to be disabled if the ScriptType field is = "TTA" and enabled otherwise. How can I do this?..something along these lines see below..I am using VB..
I know how to catch a key pressed, but I don't know how to do that in a gridview to get the the row index and the value of the field. Explanation in the code below (it is going to be more clear I guess) :

In the txtPosition TextBox the user is entering a number and press the Enter key which launch the "HandleAttribute" event as if the client had click on the "imgbtnUp" ImageButton.
I have seen several Web Sites that use GridViews that have lookup fields with different Value and Text Fields (as in drop down lists) but I can't seem to figure it out how to display the Text Field in the Item Template when the Text Field is not in the datasource. .
Here's what I have. I have a Gridview whose datasource is a Linq to SQL Invoice table, e.g.
InvoiceID CustomerID InvoiceNumber
THe Customer table is related to the Invoice Table thru the CustomerID. The relationship is defined in SQL Server and is displayed in the DBML.
I have created a template field for the CustomerID field in the Gridview. I would like to display the CustomerName when the Item Template is displayed and a DropDownList in the Edit Template. The DropDownList works great, but I cannot seem to figure out how to display the CustomerName in then Item Template.
I seem to remember seeing in some video that you can simply drag the CustomerName into the CustomerID Item Template Field. But I can't seem to find the customerName field. The DataSource includes the Customer Table because of the relationship, but no fields are displayed.
I suspect this is real simple, but I cannot seem to find an article or video that explains how to do this.
I m getting 9 columns from database in a dataset but I want to diplay only 4 columns in datagrid. Remaining 5 columns values, I want to display in the textboxes below datagird.
I tried it making column invisible. If I make it invisible, I m not getting any value for that column to display in the textbox.
let me explain completly. I designed an gridview, header template i added one textbox and button if the user enter something on Txtbox and click button then based on input i show corresponding rows only, all other rowss will be hidded using Javascript like below

now im doing something on the Gridview_RowCommand event at this time the gridview got refreshed so that the hiden rows are visible, but i dont want to show the hidden(invisible) rows while rowcommand event fired.
I have a gridview that is being populated off of a query that has joins in it. It works fine. However, I want to display one record of all information but then blank out all colunmns accept 1 for the other 3 records that it is picking up. In other words, right now, all three records have duplicate info in them accept this one column. can this be done? Can I somehow blank out other columns based upon what is in the single column? This is all being done in a gridview. I realize it would do a master detail type scenario but I want all of this information to display without someone having to click on a field or anything.
regarding gridview Template column.in my template column i have a textbox and i need to invisible to user. but when i set visible property "false" then textbox value is not render.
I have a Gridview with some template columns. Inside one of the columns, I have a ImageButton with a serverSide OnClick handler to show or hide a panel. And all the panels by default are hidden. What happens is that when I click the imageButton the first time the panel gets displayed, but if I click the same button, on the same row again, - where the panel is now visible - the panel doesn't hide itself. Here's what happens when the imageButton is clicked:
I bound the gridview having some fields(ID, StudName, City) Â and Display Button. When I click on the Disply button I approve the student and updation will happen.Â
Bu what happen the column ID is not in the sequence. Sometime it displays 1,2,3,4,5,6 ... Â next time it will display 7,8,9,10,11.... I want a sequence for the column ID. For that I used :Â

and it is working fine.. But again I realize that these numbers are generating at runtime and i can't refer to that student. Also I don't want to display ID column on the grid view but I want to use on runtime generated column. [ i am using RowCommand for ID column ] How it is possible?Â

I have a FormView which is used to insert a record into a database. Outside of this formview i have a drop down list, I want to grab the value from that drop down list and set one of the text fields within the formview to it's currently selected value. I have a lable in template field of grid which is containing record status from database.
Issue is that text in lable is not being center allign. I have tried setting horizontal allignmen but it do not work on text rather it work on control. I even tried using style sheet in which I apply font and background color but still text is not being cente allign.
I'm using ASP .NET C# 3.5. I have a multiline textbox on my web form that allows for the input of up to 5,000 characters from the end-user. This text is a basic description of a training course. I need to display it out in a clearly formatted way. For example, I need there to be bullets and bold text.
What I did was I chose certain (not often used) characters and then used the .Replace method when displaying the text in an <asp:Label>. If the text in the database contains the character '~' then I replace that with a line break <br />. If it contains '`' I replace that with <b> and if it contains '^' I replace that with </b>.
Is there a better way of doing this? It is working properly, and I'm displaying the text properly, but I know the end-user is going to hate typing text like this for formatting. I do want this all to stay database driven as well
I have a listview that has been constructed using tables. I have set the DataKeyNames="SomeTextField" among others. This column is currently not visible in the ListView.
I'd like to populate a textbox on the click of any listview record with the contents "SomeTextField" column.
I was able to get the code below to give me the value I want from my SQL table however it has to display it in a gridview so I assume that something in the code acutally makes the result a data source rather than a string value.

right now i have a droplistbox in my design.. when i select others, a text box will appear and allow user to enter the new email address. however, i would like the text box to appear invisible to the user when he enters this asp page initially. how do i go about doing it?
just another question.. Supposed that if the user chooses "Others" and entered a new email address in the textbox and i want him to be able to see this new email address as an option in the future when he runs this asp file again. is it possible not to set up a SQL server for my application? or can i just use some variables to set as that?
