Forms Data Controls :: Getting Error Message When Reposition Panel

Apr 1, 2010

I have a gridview control contained in a web server panel control. When I move the panel (drag by means of the direction icon in the panel's upper left) the gridview control disappears and an error message appears in it's place. And it states "There was an error rendering the control. Object reference not set to an instance of a object". This must be coming from the code that creates the web page.If this might have a bearing on things the panel conrol is absolutely positioned and the gridview is relatively positioned.

Forms Data Controls :: Best Way To Display A Friendly "error" Message?

Dec 30, 2010

I have an asp.net web application that queries a database with a SELECT query in a stored procedure. If the server returns an error, I want to display a friendly "sorry, there was a problem with your search" type message.

Should I handle this with a custom error page, and a redirect to that page in web.config? Or can put some text in a Label Control and set its property to visible if there are errors? I've seen the latter done with a Try/Catch arrangement in the code behind, but not sure if I can do that here. What would you recommend?

My code behind is below for the page that displays the search results:

Forms Data Controls :: Compiler Error Message "CS1061: To Do With Gridview Method" When Creating Shopping Cart

Apr 5, 2010

I am using an application from a book for a shopping application , to adapt for my own learning, but there seems to be a problem with the shopping cart page. This is a section I have not changed as there is no need to but there is an error. In the code behind the only thing new is the namespace:

namespace OIClothing
{
public partial class Cart : System.Web.UI.Page
{
ShoppingCart cart; // it doesn't like this, giving the debug message the type or namespace 'Shopping Cart" could not be found
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CheckTimeStamps();
if (Session["cart"] == null)
{
cart = new ShoppingCart();
Session["cart"] = cart;
}
else
{
cart = (ShoppingCart)Session["cart"];
}
GridView1.DataSource = cart.GetItems();
if (!IsPostBack)
GridView1.DataBind();
btnCheckOut.Enabled = (cart.Count > 0);
}
protected void GridView1_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e)
{
cart.DeleteItem(e.RowIndex);
GridView1.DataBind();
}

but when running the page, this error is given: CS1061: 'ASP.cart_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'GridView1_RowDeleting' and no extension method 'GridView1_RowDeleting' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.cart_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Web Forms :: Error Message For Validator Controls?

Jul 28, 2010

I have one doubt i.e i want to display the error message for the validator controls all the times regardless of whether one has entered a value or not. In my case i'm using few required field and custom validator controls.

By using Page.Validate() method i'm able to display the error message for all the controls , but this doesn't work in case the field has any value in it.

Please suggest if there is any workaround for this to display the error mesages for the fields with validator controls all the time.

Web Forms :: Displaying Error Message Of Validation Controls On A Single Literal Or Label?

Mar 24, 2010

This is something thats been bugging me for a while. I can't even remember if I fixed this before or not. What I'm trying to do is display a single error message for all validation controls on my page. I think this is possible if you write your own javascript function for a Custom Control, hiding the error message, and displaying it on a single control. Writting all the javascript for this and then refering to the control with "GetElementByID". But can I use controls like RequiredFieldValidator, and make them display messages on one single control without having to write javascript for each one of them? One single message on one single literal or label or whatever, at the bottom of the page, that says "fill in the compulsary fields" or something
similar. I find it very annoying having a list of validators underneath each other with different messages.

Validation Controls Error Message From Resource File And Parametrized?

May 31, 2010

I would like to get validation messages for validation controls from resource files. I know I can do that easily by following code snippet.

<%$ Resources:[filename prefix,]resource-key %>

or

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" meta:resourcekey="resource-key-prefix" />

But I would also like to parameterized it.

e.g.

Above Resource Expression will give me message like "Fill Information.". What I have in resource file is "Fill {0} Information." which should show end user message like "Fill Address Information.".
