Forms Data Controls :: GridView - EntityDatasource And Entity Custom Properties Using Partial Class
Apr 25, 2010
I'm face of a little problem when using GridView, an EntityDatasource and entity custom properties using a partial class. I'll describe it and I hope that someone has already find the solution because I try to figured out since two days.
I have added a partial class to one generated by the Entity Framework. I wanted to add a calculated field that I could bind to my GridView. However, when I try to access the new property, I get an error message that this is a limitation to Entity Framework. Are there any work arounds to accomplish this?
I have an EntityDataSource I've mapped to the entity Resident which includes two navigation properties (Building1, Room1). I've set my GridView to use this EntityDataSource and set the EntityDataSource Include property to Building1, Room1 so it includes these navigation properties and have added these columns to the GridView. When I run the application instead of displaying the associated navigation property it shows this: webHousingAdmin.BuildingHow can I get it to display the actual value? Code looks like this for GridView:
got a question regarding form validation via entity partial class. I created my edmx-file with the Entity Data Model. Now I am trying to validate my form inputs via this partial class:
[Code]....
Edmx file and partial class are in the same namespace. But the partial class does not get fired. My controller file looks like that:
All of my columns are bound in the Gridview. On OnRowDataBound event, I am adding some custom styles like underlines and colors to the text of the columns. Sorting of data is working fine but I am losing my custom styles when I sort. I am using the generic sorting code for the GridView.
How I can keep my custom styles on sorting that I added during OnRowDataBound event.
I've a requirement where i need to pass some objects across the pages. So i created a custom class with all the properties required and created a instance of it and assigned all the properties appropriately. I then put that object in the session and took it the other page. The problem is that even when i set the properties values to the class it is coming as null. I set a breakpoint in the getter-setter and saw that the value itself is coming as null.
public class GetDataSetForReports { private Table m_aspTable; private int m_reportID; private string m_accountKey; private string m_siteKey; private string m_imUserName; /// <summary> /// Asp Table containing the filters /// </summary> public Table aspTable { get { return m_aspTable; } set { m_aspTable = aspTable; } } /// <summary> /// Report ID /// </summary> public int reportID { get { return m_reportID; } set { m_reportID = reportID; } } /// <summary> /// All the accounts selected /// </summary> public string accountKey { get { return m_accountKey; } set { m_accountKey = accountKey; } } /// <summary> /// All the sites selected /// </summary> public string siteKey { get { return m_siteKey; } set { m_siteKey = siteKey; } } /// <summary> /// Current User Name /// </summary> public string imUserName { get { return m_imUserName; } set { m_imUserName = imUserName; } } }
This is how i'm creating an instance in the page1 and trying to get it in the page2. Page1 Code
//Add the objects to the GetDataSetForReports Class GetDataSetForReports oGetDSForReports = new GetDataSetForReports(); oGetDSForReports.aspTable = aspTable; oGetDSForReports.reportID = iReportID; oGetDSForReports.accountKey = AccountKey; oGetDSForReports.siteKey = Sitekey; oGetDSForReports.imUserName = this.imUserName.ToString();
But the values are not getting set at all. The values are not passing to the class (to the setter) at all. Am i making any OOP blunder?
I am using an ADO Entity Model for my ms-sql database.
My database has a Resellers table which has ResellerID (primary key, int) and Name columns along with other data.
I also have an Orders table which contains OrderID (primary key, int), OrderDate, ResellerID (foreign key to Resellers.ReselerID).
If I just do a query like:
[Code]....
I am able to reference order.Reseller.Name just fine with no problems.
However I have an EntityDataSource on my page as follows:
[Code]....
Notice the Include="Reseller" attribute in the datasource... I also have a GridView tied to that datasource as follows: I cut some of it off for breavity:
[Code]....
Now what I have listed above will run with no errors, but what I want to do is replace the column that displays "ResellerID" with the equivilant to order.Reseller.Name. In other words I want my grid to display the reseller's name rather than the numeric ID.
I have tried to change the DataField to "Reseller.Name" but that will generate the following error:
A field or property with the name 'Reseller.Name' was not found on the selected data source.
Is there anyway to do this without me writing a custom select statement in my code behind?
I have a regular method I want to call. I need to use properties of the GridViewRowEventArgs Class within this method.
i.e.
[Code]....
Of course the above code is not valid because I don't think you can put GridViewRowEventArgs within the method like that. I don't want to put it within a event handler because that even handler is doing other things. I want to be able to call this seperatley.
I want to delete entity from linq class this entity has one to many relationshipe with another table so I want to delete all entities related to this one for example I want to delete classroom so i should delete all student is this classroom fisrt i don't how to delete all these student in one time
I have a Customer database table with a text field named customerPicture with the name of the JPG file.
I have made a Customer Entity class with the LinQ to SQL Designer.
I also have a FormView displaying Customer instance binding with a LinqDataSource.
My problem is:
I want to make some modifications when some control want to bind the customerPicture field.
For example, when my FromView want to show the field customerPicture I want to return not only the JPG file name, I want to modify this string to add the complete file path and perhaps resample the image to a determinate width and height.
I know that is posible to defeine a partial class named Customer to implement certains partial methods, like OnCustomerPictureChanged(), but I dont know how to do this.
If I make, in this Customer partial class, a new method, for example getResamplePicturePath(), how could I invoke it from a FormView?
The problem is that enum property fields are not show.
Is there any way to show enum property fields in details view ?
I put some example code below (I do not specify any rows mappings, they are generated dynamically because different kind of objects are bound to details view):
The above code compiles without any error. Also I can drag and drop this control from the Toolbox of my Project on my web form. However I am unable the change the value of my fromLabel control. It allows me to change the value in the properties window. But when I run the form it always shows me its default value which is "From". I want it to be flexible so that any one can change the value in the properties window.
I have a nested gridview which has been working fine. Now I need to turn the inner gridview off based on some condition: a IF block is added to the existing RowDataBound event of the outer gridview. Now I'm getting "the Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. What should be the proper way to go about this? The code:
[code]....
In addition, is there a way to "switch" columns of the inner gridview? For example, column 1 is "City", column 2 is "Price". If user selects to sort by "Price", I woud like column 1 be "Price" and column 2 be "City". Is this has to be done programmatically or if there's other way?
I try to do exactly like this thread : http://forums.asp.net/p/1551018/3802862.aspx#3802862But when i apply the solution it do work but i can't delete an entry anymore in the GridView..
I have one UpdatePanel which contains search criteria controls for a GridView.
The GridView is in another UpdatePanel.
I have a reset button in the search criteria UpdatPanel which resets all the search controls to their default values. However when I click this button for some reason my GridView RowDataBound method fires.
This is slowing the page down when the reset button is clicked. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it. I haven't posted the code and explained it in plain english for ease of reading.
I first need to apologize in case this has been answered before but I'm a newbie (green as they come) and this error keeps popping up even before I start debugging! There are two errors and the second one is:" Error 2
Missing partial modifier on declaration of type 'WFPKenya2.WFPKenya2'; another partial declaration of this type exists"
how can I expose the properties of a hyperlink column in a gridview so I can program then in vb code? For example I want to change the property of the DataNavigateUrlFormatString programatically using vb code? How can I do this?
I have a custom control which inherit from the Table class and in the constructor, it takes a an integer as an argument. There is no empty constructor.
Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.
Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:
[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService] public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public void save_client(aClientArgs client) { // Save client data } } Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class: public class aArgs { public string id = null; public string name = null; } public class aClientArgs : aArgs { public string address = null; public string website = null; } Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client> When I'm expecting the following: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <id>string</id> <name>string</name> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client>
So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?
