Forms Data Controls :: Gridview Columns Change After New Sqldatasource Changed In Code?
Feb 14, 2010
I have a gridview that loads with a new datasource on button click event. On the gridview (which is located in a table columm incidentally) are 2 columns, a descriptor and a checkbox. The problem is that after postback, the column widths change, the checkbox column expands and the other column contracts. Is there a way to keep the gridview column sizes the same after postback?
Basically, what I want to do is to get all my data in 1 statement and then pull data from that into a GridView. I already have the columns that I want displaying in the GridView, but now I want to insert a footer row in between the header row and all the datarows, that contains a couple columns that will be the same for every row in the GridView. So something along the lines of this:
I have been looking at this article: [URL] However, I have a question: Can't this be used with a sqldatasource, instead of binding the gridview behind? If so, how?
I want to filter grid view, drop down list should select the column and text box will filter the column. like ID NAME Phone Designation fields in gridview.i will select Designation in dropdown and type programmer in text box .so it should filter programmers from the gridview...
I have been searching for some time on the net for guidance on this question. Finally thought I will ask here...
I have a gridview that needs to be generated from code behind. There is a column with a name field and the remaining columns give the different user-ids linked to that id. Like this:
-- NAME, ID1, ID2, ID3......
The Name column will be populated from a table that has the Name as well as number of ID's associated with that name. eg [Name1][3]
I need to display linkbuttons that link to user-id related documents in columns 2 to n for each name. How do I dynamically add linkbutton columns from code behind?
I am trying to add dynamically gridview (headerstylewidth, back-color, height, etc…, itemstyle width, back-color, height, etc…), in codebehind but I am receiving this error:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index
I am using Templates in GridView, but now I have to change the "HeaderText" of each column from code behind. I don't have <HeaderTemplate> so therefore I cannot use FndControl() in header row.
Is there a way to change the HeaderText of each colum without using <HeaderTemplate>
Here are the templates of the GridView which I am using
I'm trying to change one section in code from DataGrid format to GridView format. The reasoning is that the sample application that was displayed was using a DataGrid even though it should have been using a Gridview for 2.0 and above. Most of it shows up without an error except one line in 3 lines which are pretty much the same. I bolded them and just want to know how do I re-write them for the Gridview?
Protected Sub NewsGrid_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles NewsGrid.RowCommand Dim connection As SqlConnection = CreateConnection() If e.CommandName = "Delete" Then Dim com As New SqlCommand("DELETE FROM ElectPageEditor WHERE NewsID = @NewsID", connection) com.Parameters.AddWithValue("@NewsID", e.Item.Cells(0).Text) Try connection.Open() com.ExecuteNonQuery() Catch generatedExceptionName As SqlException Finally connection.Close() End Try ElseIf e.CommandName = "Edit" Then Dim command As New SqlCommand("SELECT NewsText FROM ElectPageEditor WHERE NewsID = @NewsID", connection) command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@NewsID", e.Row.Cells(0).Text) Try connection.Open() Dim record As SqlDataReader = command.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection) If record.Read() Then NewsEditor.Content = record.GetString(0) EditedNews.Value = e.Item.Cells(0).Text lse NewsEditor.Content = "" EditedNews.Value = "" End If ' Will close the connection as well record.Close() Catch generatedExceptionName As SqlException Finally connection.Close() End Try End If ' Add code to delete row from data source. ReadAllRecords() End Sub
I am wondering if its possibl to change the DataField value of the asp:BoundField in the code behind.aspx page:
[Code]....
I would like to change DataField="From" to DataField="To" before I call the GridView.DataBind.Please let me know if this is possible and if so how can I do it.
When the data is retrieved through a stored procedure using the SQLDatasource control that is binded to a gridview control, I want to change some data that is in some of the columns. Can i do this in one of the events either in the gridview or data control? I know you can do some formatting on the aspx page side such as dates, etc. but was wondering if I can do it on the vb code side?
I have two SqlDataSources in my page for a combo box. One loads all the data from a table, and the other one will preselect the combo box data when editing the page record.
in asp.net page user able to select gridview Columns, and it will hide remaining columns and that selection done by check box with column list bellow is Image link , what exactly I am looking for [URL] it look bellow after selection of column done [URL]
I have a series of dropdownlists on webform in ASP 4.0. The first drop down is filled upon load, and then when a user selects a value from that list, it populates the second dropdown. To accomplish this, I have a SQLdatasource with a parametersource of the first drop-down list control. This works great, except when a user changes their selection from the first drop down. It performs the query, but then adds the list of items to the ones that were already there from the previous selection, instead of replacing it with the new data. Here is the code:
[Code]....
Do I need to do something on selectedindexchanged to somehow "clear out" the previous datasource? I can't find anything about this online, although one person seemed to suggest it was related to using a master page. (which I am using).
I have a gridview that was quite easy to setup and pull all the reqested database info from an object data source in my BLL. However for the life of me I cannot get any of the columns to change there widths. If I change the columns footer, header, and item style to something around 50px or as large as 5000px it will not change whatsoever. The gridview width as a whole is left blank. Currently I have a phone number column that is the default column size that is overflowing the entire grid. Is there some trick to adjusting column widths in a gridview? It should be as simple as going to the smart tag, editing columns, and changing each ones style to the width I want?
does anyone know if the gridview can tell you if a cell's contents have changed (during an edit) in order to determine if an update should be made against the database?
I have a dropdownlist as a template item in a gridview - it populates fine and with the right values. I have an SelectedIndexChanged on the dropdownlist, and has set it for postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event, I would like to know where the control that fired this event is, - which row in the gridview is it in? How do I get this info? If the row was selected it would be easy, but the only thing that has happened in that row is that the dropdown has changed value and consequently the SelectedIndexChanged event has been fired - is that enough to know which row the event has been fired from?
I have a Gridview with about 6 templated columns hooked up to SQL, with a Save button below the grid.
When save is clicked, I loop through each row, and write each row back out to SQL.
Can you recommend a good way for me to tell whether the row has changed so I can avoid re-writing the row when nothing has changed?
This is not only for performance, but I also have a request to write out a "Last Modified Date" along with each record. So for that, I would need to know whether the row has changed.
I saw someone mentioned that the Gridview.RowState could be used for this, but I don't see how.
One alternative I see is to re-read each row from the database first, to see if anything changed. Another alternative might be to set a dirty-bit on each Textchanged, SelectedItemChanged, etc, for the row, but I'm not sure where to store that.
I have Gridview which allows user to edit record.I already build the event to save the new record, time and user machine information to a log database. However, this means a whole record is saved to the log... if the user just change one or two column/field out of say 20 fields, then there is a lot of waste. Also the change is not obvious. How can I log exactly which field(s) was changed in the record ?
