Forms Data Controls :: GriedView Update Is Not Working?

Here is my asp and the code behind code. When I click edit and enter a new weight value, the system does not maintain that value, but displays back the original one (if I press enter I see that happening or through debug).
What am I missing?

I have gried view and add 3 buttons. Insert, update and delete and they show but on the left side. I want to be on the right. How to make it happen?here's my code:

I am Chandan Pednekar an IT student completing my final year. I am developing a data driven website for my final year project. I have written a code behind file in c# which takes a value from a datagrid to retrieve values in textboxes for further updating.
I have coded the datagrid on another page. My problem is that, even when I click update(on editEmp.aspx) I straight away get redirected to the datagrid page(manageEmp.aspx I have redirected after successful update) but the database just doesn't gets updated. I am using sqlCommand Object with executeNonQuery method.
I don't even get errors. It just gets redirected and the database isn't even updated.
I have a formview and data source that opens in the edit template and allows the user to update a few free form text fields. I also have some drop down boxes that allow a DOB to be built and populate another text box. All of this was working fine yesterday, and today somehow I hosed it and can not find the cause. I have rebuilt this page three times to get it working again, but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong to break it.
Background: I open a page that has a detailsview control using Accessdatasource. It is automatically opened with the row I want to update as I get there by passing the key as a URL parm. The update works for all fields except 2 template fields I added. I added a field for update date and updated by which I want the code to populate in the code behind so the user does not enter it. I have the same login on another page using an insert and it works fine. I cannot figure out what is wrong on the update and I tried everything. I have formview , there is save linkbutton & upload control, same for insert template & edititem template. both save butons have name 'LnkSave'. without update panel it is working. but with panel not. i used trigger for control but it gives error like ' already definition for LnkSave button' . i changed name of save button in edit item template, yet it's not working.
I have a formview that I open to the edit template, some textboxes are not available and some are populated by dropdown lists, and the update function works fine.
As soon as I add some logic to the code behind page for the update control, the UPDATE link on the formview stops updating my DB.
I have an Objectdatasource configured with Select, Insert, Update & Delete queries in a Dataset. This datasource is linked to my Gridview. I do not require all fields in the table to be displayed or updated in my grid so i have turned off the Visible property on several.
However, when i go into Edit mode and trigger the UPDATE to the database table, i get NULL values updated in the columns i set False for the Visible property.
How can i remove these columns from the GridView and the Edit mode and still have them UPDATE with their current values instead of being overwritten with NULL's?

I have a record in gridview contains string with special character like single quotes( ' ) etc..I've a edit button in gridview when i click on edit button of any record of Gridview then corresponding record shown to text box.
But on that time single quote looks like below ....
Before edit button click string in gridview cell, a testimonial or show consists of a person's written or spoken statement
After edit button click string in textbox, a testimonial or show consists of a person's written or spoken statement but when I click update button shows following error :
"A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$tb_comment="...f a person's written or sp...")"
What is the solution so that single quote shows as it original format as it looks in gridview cell when i click on edit button.
I want to export the grid data to excel then write the following code but the following lines of code are working at firefox3 but not at ie8(no response).

I searched a lot of threads but still couldn't get my problem fixed. I have to update the "regform" table with two fields: session_ and session2. These two fields are inside the detailview edititem template which bounded to dropdown list drpsession1, drpsession2 separately. the @session_ is bounded to a drpsession1 and @session2 is bounded to drpsession2. I used ControlID="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$DetailsView1$drpsession1" to access the dropdown list within the detailview, but still couldn't do the updates. What's wrong with my code? Do I have to use the code behind to specify the update parameters? and How to do it? TIA.
i want to build a datagrid bound to a datatable with several columns. One column has only a dropdownlist with the number of the rows in the datatable.

I know how to bind the columns to a grid and its no problem to create such a dropdown list with the content for me, too. But i dont know how to sort the complete datatabl after changing one value of one dropdown listbox.
So, how can i resort the values of a datatable column based on a given value and the datarow id?
im having a gridview in which im displaying records and status.....this gridview shows employee applied leave waiting for approvals..
so in gridview i have chabged the status button as radio button list and giving two choices as approve/reject ....so HOD seect relevant button and update the grid...
how to do this?

I am using asp.net 3.5 c#. I am trying to do this:
In one page, a user can insert some stuff (name, phone .. etc) to the database. And then the user should be able to see the rows he added as a list automatically in a datalist (or other control). As he inserts rows, it appears in the datalist.
I tried to use update panel and inside it datalist, with a button as a trigger but it did n't work with me!
I've got a single table, with project information and schedule information. To make the data easier to present, I created a tab control with two panels (a detailsview in each). The first tab is for project info, the second tab is for schedule info (again, all fields in the same table). The problem is, if i change info in both tabs, and then hit the update button, only the data from one tab is added to the table. I think this problem is simple to fix, and boils down to the way I have the page organized, but I can't quite figure it out.
I've boiled my code down to the following conceptualized structure:

When you click the update button, you return to the listview, but with only the information from your current tab saved. How can I get it to update from both detailsviews?
