Forms Data Controls :: Display A One Row Gridview When Gridview Is Bound To Empty Dataset

Jan 13, 2010

If the gridview binds to empty dataset, I need to still show a gridview so that users can ADD more using the textfields in the bottom of the footer template. Since the gridview is empty it won't bind not allowing rendering of the <footer template> I guess I should create a empty dataset if the gridview is empty. How do I check for this and can this be done in GridviewRowEventArgs

Forms Data Controls :: Get ID Bound To Label In GridView?

Feb 10, 2010

I have a foreign key (TeamID) in a GridView. I use a TemplateField to display it as the lookup value (TeamName) in a label, and a dropdown for editing. When row is selected and SelectedIndexChanged is fired, I want to access the TeamID. I can get the TeamName from the label. I tried putting the TeamID in DataKeyNames, but that fouled up my dropdown when saving (it reverts to the original value). So, how can I get the TeamID?

Forms Data Controls :: Custom Sorting Bound GridView

Nov 23, 2009

I have a GridView that is bound to a MSSQL table. I need to sort it based on a column; however, I need to implement a custom comparison to be used for sorting. It is a varchar column with entries such as (1, 2... 300... 1000... 504-2). I have a comparison in place that I use in other applications to sort the versioning strings; however I can't seem to find a way to use it with the GridView. If I use the built-in sorting, I get the typical problem of 1000's being tossed in with 100's and such.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview (bound By ObjectDataSource) Sorting

Aug 31, 2010

I have a gridview being data bound by an objectdatasource which points to a BLL/DAL. I have paging and sorting enabled within the gridview. I have the fields configured in the look/fell I want from a templatefield. This templatefield has the sort expression (date) I want things to be sorted by. All this works as it should and I have no issues with it.But, the issue is that when I click on the header to sort asc/desc by date, I have to click on it twice for it switch to descending order. E.g. I hit the webpage and it lists all the information in the gridview, sorted by date, ascending order. If I want to sort by descending order, I have to click the date header twice in order for the gridview to sort the information in descending order; the clicks cause a post-back and the whole screen is refreshed.

Forms Data Controls :: Applying CSS To GridView During Item Bound?

Oct 20, 2009

I am working on a ASP.NET 3.5 application. I am applying the CSS style to GridView control in the Item bound event of the Repeater control.Following lines of code will be executed 10 to 20 times during the Item bound event of the Repeater control.

grdSummary.DataSource = dt;
tblGroupHeader.CssClass = Class.Text;
grdSummary.CssClass = Class.Text;
grdSummary.HeaderStyle.CssClass = sumTrTitle;
grdSummary.ItemStyle.CssClass = eRowClass;
grdSummary.AlternatingItemStyle.CssClass = oRowClass;

Some of the CSS class has image url property and background-image:url(../img/r_header.gif);The page takes more time to load after applying the styles. When i remove the styles from the Item bound event the page loads faster.So What is the efficient way to apply the CSS styles to Gridview inside a repeater control?

Forms Data Controls :: Bound Textbox Not Populating In Gridview?

May 25, 2010

I have a Gridview that has a template field containing a bound textbox (fieldname is 'Status'). I have an extra column containing an update button, which is designed to update the db with whatever is in the textbox.

What's happening is that when I load the form, the textbox is blank, even though there is existing data in the fields. If however I click the update button, all the textboxes in the Status column update and populate with the correct data from the database. I guess my question is why would bound textboxes not populate until an update command is run?

However, (?Me.GridView1.Rows.Count) shows 0 rows. The exact same page in VS2008, ASP.NET 3.5 works fine. how to get the GridView to display the rows? What has been done to the GridView in 4.0?

Forms Data Controls :: Formatting Bound Data In Gridview Using Client-side Javascript?

Jan 18, 2010

I am looking for a method to format gridview bound data using javascript.

I know you can have custom formating in Eval using:

But I am looking for a way to perform this task on client side, rather than doing it on the server.

For example if I want to format a date field being bound in a custom way, something like emails date received in gmail. (Only show time if it is today's date [15:30] and only show day and month if it is this year date [14 Jan] and show the full date if it is not this year [10/10/2009].

So, how I use javascript to format a field (ie. custom date format or setting a control visibility)?

Forms Data Controls :: Display Hyperlink In Gridview Bound From Datatable

Feb 11, 2010

I have a gridView which is populated with the code below. This is working perfectly except for one issue. In the "Region" column, I need for each region name to be a hyperlink. If I set the row code to dr(0) = "<a href='table_display.aspx?IO_ID=" & objDataReader("IO_ID") & "'>" & objDataReader("Region") & "</a>" it actually displays the entire string of text from "<a href..." through "</a>", but not as a hyperlink. I have read in many places to manually put a hyperlink field in the aspx page, but I would really prefer to do this programmatically in the code-behind.

I have a bound column.

<asp:BoundField DataField="WorkPreference" HeaderText="WorkPreference"
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" />

The example of the data which gets bound to this column is like the following:

Communications and Marketing Officers; Environmental Assessors; Geologists and Geosciences; Geospatial/Spatial Information Officers;

What I want is that the data should be presented to the user like the following:

Communications and Marketing Officers
Environmental Assessors
Geologists and Geosciences
Geospatial/Spatial Information Officers

In short: I basicaly want to put a break where there is a colon and then bind the data to the gridview. It looks like simple but if you can let me know.

Forms Data Controls :: Two DataLists Bound To One GridView With Multiple DataKeyNames?

Mar 11, 2010

I have a gridView, with two DataKeyNames: MemberID, and CommitCustomerID.

One DataList has this sql statement:

SELECT * FROM [tblMemberProfile] WHERE MemberID = @MemberID

It pops up perfectly fine.

I also have another DataList with this statement:

SELECT * FROM [Incidents] WHERE CustomerID = @CommitCustomerID

I know this sql command works I have tested it with my data.

However I dont think the DataList is getting the proper value for the selected row in this DataLists case.

How can I make sure when I select the row in the GridView the proper parameters are going to the proper DataList sql statements?

Forms Data Controls :: OnRowCommand Not Firing If Gridview Not Bound On Postback?

Jun 22, 2010

I have a webpage with many updatepanels. Each panel contains databound controls including gridviews (GV). They are bound at runtime so the number of gridview columns varies with each bind. the controls are bound only once in Page_Load event ( within if (!Page.IsPostBack) )I added a linkbutton to each header in the GV in the RowDataBound event. Once the header is clicked, the event is handled in the OnRowCommand and it calls a method to bind the controls with new data.Things work fine if the GV is bound with every postback (no if (!Page.IsPostBack) condition) but I don't want to bind all the controls with every postbackMy problem is that the OnRowCommand is not fired if the GV is not bound on the postbackI even tried to add click handler for the linkbutton but that didn't work either.

Forms Data Controls :: Filter A Bound GridView With Radio Buttons?

Nov 11, 2009

I have a GridView control bound to an AccessDataSource control that has a default query assigned to the data control when the page first loads. I also have 3 radio buttons on the form that I would like to use as a filter on the data (i.e. change the WHERE clause in the query) in the AccessDataSource.

I am relatively new to this, so I tried the following:

I set the radio buttons to AutoPostback = True, and then put code behind each radio button's CheckedChanged event to change the query in the AccessDataSource:

MyAccessDataSource.SelectCommand = "SELECT ... WHERE <new where clause>"

The problem is that when the page refreshes, all the column widths in the grid end up expanded and the grid is then re-displayed with its right edge well beyond the right side of the form. I'm not sure why the columns widths don't stay as they were originally since I am not changing them. Even worse, when one of the column headings is selected (I want column sorting), the page sorts the column and displays the grid based on the original query listed in the markup instead of the most recent query assigned by the SelectCommand in the code behind.
