How to take value of bound field of grid in a variable or in a textbox.
I m using this code in .aspx page for grid.

Now how to take value of cell of grid in textbox or in any varaible on cell click.remember if I take the field as BoundField on aspx.
I have a webform developed in VB.NET and I am facing a strange problem. In the webform I have a GridView control which has two bound fields (Item # and Item name) coming from a master table and infront of these two fields I have placed a TEXTBOX control as TEMPLATE FIELD to take any value of particular item. But after filling all the textboxes when i clicked on submit button it loops thru the items and there i need to read the textbox value of that particular item in a variable but unfortunately the value is blank even the data is there. my problem is that i have a gridview that fetch the data from database .I added the linkbutton on gridview that redirect to next page but cant working becouse at run time i add a bound field on gridview to calculate the time. source code

I have a gridview, which on the row data bound method that inserts a row when comparing values on a particular field. If the two values are different, a new row is inserted, if not no row is inserted. This coding is working as a grouping gridview, and is working correctly. However, I have problem, and problem is counting the rows between each group, which I want to display in my blank row between each group, the value of which I am holding in a hiddenfield.
When I try to do it, the first group doesn't show the result, but is displayed on the next group. I am pretty sure that I am doing something wrong. My approach is that if the value between the last row and the existing row are different, then the value is one, on the next row data bound event, if the values are the same then the value is increased by one, else the value is one because it is a new group. Here is my code:

i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

Elaborating my question: I have 3 bound field columns(col1, col2 & col3) . I have to increase the rowspan of col2 and col3 headertext's to 2 i.e I want the col2 and col3 header texts to span across two row cells. But the col1 header text should span across just 1 row. And the extra rowscell that is created under col1 due to the increase in the rowspans (of col2 and col3 boundfield headertexts) should be populated with some random text, i.e something like XXXXX

I have a TextBox in a nested FormView that I want to use for entering a date. I have added a calender extender to the TextBox and I want to set TextBox to read only so that the date can only be entered by using the calender extender. This way I can avoid improper date formats.
The problem is that when I enter a new date and click the Update button, the new date is not saved to the database. I have done some searching on the WEB for a solution, and I found that "Page.Form.SubmitDisabledControls = True" is used in the Page_Load event to solve this problem. I have tried this and it does not work.
Another solution that I have seen is to set the control to readonly at runtime in the FormView "ItemCreated" event. I have been unable to access the "ItemCreated" for this FormView because it is nested.
I have a Gridview that has a template field containing a bound textbox (fieldname is 'Status'). I have an extra column containing an update button, which is designed to update the db with whatever is in the textbox.
What's happening is that when I load the form, the textbox is blank, even though there is existing data in the fields. If however I click the update button, all the textboxes in the Status column update and populate with the correct data from the database. I guess my question is why would bound textboxes not populate until an update command is run?
I want to fix the gridview column width using bound field and also template field using vb.net ... How can i ?
View 1 RepliesWhen I bind my listview with a typed dataset the textbox is filled with spaces up to its max length.
For example if I have "ABC" in the typed dataset and the textbox has a max length of 5 it will actually bind "ABC ".
I know I could trim it ont he databound event, but I shouldn't have to.

What I would like to do is show only the Name and IsReadonly and hide the Key field .
I think u can use a it as a Date Key or something because i then want to delete a record (using autogeneratedeletecolumn)and use that Key in the where clause.
I have to modify a page so that depending on who views the page i will show client or client Type, its easy enough to change the text but I cant see how to change the datafield

I have a grid view with several TemplateFields. A couple of them are set to Visible=False; each template field has an EditItemTemplate, an ItemTemplate and a FooterTemplate.

While in GridView_RowUpdating event, the value bounded to the EditItemTemplate is properly read

so, debugging ttbImp.Text = "4"; But when trying to get the value bounded to the FooterTemplate, the label contains no values.

why that? I believe it has to do with the hidden visibility of the field, but I can't understand why it reads the value inEditItemTemplate, and it doesn't in FooterTemplate.
