Forms Data Controls :: ListView Not Returning Data But Query In Access Works
Mar 8, 2011
I have a search box on a web application that is to use a query I have built in Access to search through projects to find any that are related to the text entered in the search box.
The query in Access is just made up of parameters that use wildcards to search through all the fields. In Access the query works fine and returns the correct data but when I try and link this all up to a ListView in Visual Studio, the ListView just diplays the message "No data was returned"
Below is my page-behind code, hopefully you can see why it is not working but it looks like it should work to me.

I have the below code that works for an asp.net repeater but I need to convert the logic so it works for an asp.net listview control...possible? Unfortunately, the same code throws errors when placed within my listview's itemdatabound event.

I have a ListView that uses an ObjectDataSource
When I add a DataPager control INSIDE the ListView, it works fine and the ListView's PagePropertiesChanging event fires.
When I move the DataPager OUTSIDE the ListView control and set its PagedControlID
to the ListView, it stops working and the ListView's PagePropertiesChanging event no longer fires.
i.e. This works (and the ListView's PagePropertiesChanging fires):

I am using a nested listview to display a seperate grid for each group of data returned from my db query. To get this working, I have adapted a piece of code to group the data prior to it being bound:
[Code]....
I am then using the following html markup:
[Code]....
[Code]....
This works as I want it to however some of the fields within the nested table need to be formatted as currency so I am trying to use Eval and {0:c} to do this however the moment I use Eval, the data items cannot be found
DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRow' does not contain a property with the name '0'.

I've googled around for a couple of days now and tried different solutions posted here and there, but nothing has worked so far. Therefore I'm forced to write a new thread about this subject.
I'm working on a solution containing nested listviews. The top listview lists different projects, and in each project a nested listview lists images from that specific project using a nested sqldatasource. Inside the nested listview I want the user to be able to add new images, and i'm using the InsertItemTemplate of the nested listview. When inserting a new image, the project need to be specified, as the project is a foreign key in my image database. The problem is that in my InsertItemTemplate, "Bind" and "Eval" does not work (I believe this is by design). Therefore, when adding the new image I don't have access to the project. I'm using the ItemInserting event of the nested listview to upload the image, and the optimal solution would be to have access to the project in this event and just pass it on as a parameter.

I have a gridview set up with a button that when clicked I want it to send a unique value to a listview which is set to receive the value in a parameterized SQL query. I forgot how to set the button up in the GUI to take the unique value and put it in a query string and send it to url. I would like to use the GUI just to get more familiar with it. I know this is easy but I gortgot how.

I have a user control, named productslist.ascx. On pruductslist.ascx, I am using Entity Datasource and a QUERY EXTENDER and LISTview. I have a page Defualt.aspx. On Defualt.aspx, I have a TEXTBOX with a SUBMIT button for searching the site. Everthing works fine so far, AS LONG as the results of the Search is posted back to Default.aspx. What I want is for the results of the search to be posted on a different page.
So I created a new page, Results.aspx and set the postback url to it.
What I want is that when a user clicks the Submit button, after entering a search string, the text the entered is used to execute the query on Productslist.ascx and the results displayed on RESULTS.ASPX. Again, everything works fine as long as the results are posted on same page hosting the usercontrol, BUT I want the postback url to be a different page. I am coding in VB and VS 2010.

I'm working on a job seeking website where the job seeker can search for a job , the search box is located in the master page, that's why i passed the keywords as a query string, and then the matching jobs will be displayed in a listview.
the keywords will be taken from two controls: a drop down list which the user can choose the location of the job, and a text box where he can type a keyword.
the select command of the sqlDataSource of the data list is as the following:

i use this query as my sql query :
SELECT TOP 5 * FROM MyTableName WHERE ID=@ID ORDER BY NEWID()
As you may know it gets 5 records by random. I use it with dataset and bind the listview to this dataset and in ItemDataBound i want to do some programming (like making some controls visible or invisible) i need itemindex.
but the question is : how can i get the itemindex of a listview when sql query selects records randomly?

I previously had a datalist bound to an objectDataSource. Within the ItemDataBound event, i could quite happily access the current bound row as follows:
[Code]....
where ASPNETDB was the database and tblJobs the tableadapter. I could then reference the tblJobs items as job.JobId and job.StartDate etc. Upon chainging the datalist to a listview, I can't seem to find any way of accessing the same data. I've tried ListViewItem and ListViewDataItem, is this the right method or am i missing something?

While running ItemDetabound upon load of a listivew, I am trying to access the text in a label of the LayoutTemplate of a different Listview. It works fine if I try access the same labels under the same names if they are in the same listview, but not if they are in a different one. It was working for a while, can't figure out what I changed, but now says that object doesn't exist.

I'm using a JQuery plugin [URL] to add auto-completion to a "city" textfield. The component calls an ASP.NET page that simply loads an array of all possible city values (>8000) and then iterates that array returning those that start with the text the user has so far entered.
The thing is, it's pretty slow in real use. It lags behind what the user types to the extent that most of the time the user probably won't notice that it's there.
So, my question is, how can I speed it up?
I had thought that an array would be a better way to go than putting the data in a database and having to hit that multiple times. Do others agree that having this information hard-coded is the way to go given that it's not at all volatile and needs to be all about speed of return?
If so, what would you look at to improve the speed of performance? Should I be caching the data on application start and accessing it from memory? Would I be better off instead with multiple arrays, each containing values starting with a particular letter so I can go straight to the relevant one and thus iterate a much smaller array? Or am I missing a much more obvious way to go about this?

I am working on setting up an aspx page using access datasource in web eepression. Access Datasource is having image source information from other resources feed. I am using listview to display all the images.
The problem I am facing is that all the images are displaying in different sizes. I tried to customize Layout template by specifying the td height and width but it's not working. Is there any way to autosize the pictures in listview once page is displayed.

I have a data type mismatch while inserting into a number field in an access database using a parameterized query.I think this should be pretty simple but I am still learning a lot.

I have some commented out as I am working one field at a time. The working fields are textboxes and the non working ones are dropdown lists. But I think it may be the field that the list is drawing from? Not sure.

I have a page where users can search by company name, the data list is pulled from an Excel spreadsheet hosted on the site. I'm seeing some strange results returned, for example:
In the company field say there are the following entries:
Anns Company
Bernards Business
Company B
Dermots Domain
Property Company
If I search for "Com" I get the following returns (correct):
Anns Company
Company B
Property Company
If I search for "Der" I get my "Sorry there are no matching results" message (Incorrect)
If I search for "Ann" I get the following returns (Correct):
Anns Company
And if I search for "e" I get the following returns (Correct):
Bernards Business
Dermots Domain
Property Company
It seems random as to why it doesn't return some values, I've tried moving rows around to see if that's the problem but it makes no difference. My range is set correctly in the spreadsheet.
When I debug the VB code behind, when I search for something that works correctly e.g. "Com" in the above example, once enter the value and click search Visual Studio begins steping into the code and shows me the contents of the variables however when I search for something that's not working e.g. "Der" and click search it immediatly returns the "Sorry there are no matching results" message and the code behind does not get steped into.
