Jul 8, 2010I'm trying to use a DataPager to do Server Side paging. Here is my code

The problem is that the DataPager appears to be using the Count property of the ListView to determine the total number of records, which in this case is 20. Somehow, it needs to know that there are 1,500, not 20 total records. The DataPager has a property TotalRowCount, but this is read-only.I have never seen a DataPager example with Server Side paging, but assumed that it could do Server Side Paging, otherwise what good is the QueryStringField attribute?
I am aware that you can do a custom paging solution using methodology like the 4GuysFromRolla did here http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/031506-1.aspx, but I'd first like to know if a solution with the DataPager is possible before creating a custom solution.
UPDATE,The more I look at this, the more that I'm coming to the conclusion that this is not possible and that, unfortunately, the datapager is a control meant for small web sites only. What I want to do should really be quite simple if the control were built correctly. I want to be able to say
dpFooBars.TotalRowCountComputed = false;
dpFooBars.TotalRowCount = AnyNumberThatISoChoose;
I've been looking for some hack to accomplish the same thing, but it appears that the datapager's TotalRowCount is computed from the actual number of items in the datasource that it's bound to. It seems very odd to me that Microsoft would create a ListViewPagedDataSource() class and a DataPager at the same time and not have them work correctly together, but this appears to have been what has happened.
UPDATE 2 (AHA MOMENT?It seems that it has been possible to do server side paging since .Net 2.0 by using an ObjectDataSource and customizing the SelectCountMethod(). I believe it should be possible to customize ObjectDataSource to suit my needs. Hmmm. I'm going away for the weekend, so it'll be a couple of days for me to see if this works. Stay tuned, true believers.
How To Perform Server-side Pagination By Using A GridView And A DataPager
Feb 20, 2010I have a webform which uses a gridview control to show result of a search operation.I wanna to take advantage of using pagination in the webform. But as you all know, gridview pagination is a client-side pagination and it transfers all records have been selected to the client. What I mean by client-side pagination is the client (page) shows records page by page but every time the user clicks on a page link to navigate through records, all the records are selected from Data Source.How can I use gridView with datapager in order to have a server side pagination? Or any other solution to get records page by page by configuring our query?

Feb 23, 2010The idea is that a pure html table will be generated on the client side. (using jQuery to add dynamic new rows to the table when the user clicks a button). These rows contain textboxes, dropdownlists, checkboxes and other input controls. When the user clicks a button, a PostBack is triggered in which I need to access this data from the table on server side, validate it and perform other actions on it.
I'm able to perform the client side and access the table data on server side by adding runat="server" to the table tag. However, I only see the initial table rows (not the ones added through JavaScript) and I have troubles retrieving the different inputs from the rows. put me in the right direction?? Or someone offering a better solution to the problem?

Problem is that when i click on Cancel in the diaglouge box then dialogue box to Open/Save excel disappears but all the server side buttons placed on my web part becomes non responsive, on click of any of those buttons their server side click event does not get fired !!!

I defined a table in the skin file with TableHeaderRow, HeaderTableCell. I added some formatting to these entries. The table defined in the control is not being skinned by this definition. If I add a "CssClass" on the TableHeaderCell in the control, the formatting works fine. If I add the CssClass to the skin it doesn't work.
Skin file:

Jul 23, 2010I have a table that the user can add rows to through javascript by clicking on a "add rows button". In each row there are two columns one with a dropdown list and the other a text box. The dropdown list is populated with data through a sub on server side code.I need to be able to insert the data from each row into a table but I'm unable to do this. I clicked on my "add rows button" to add several rows and then did a test to see how many rows the table was returning on the server side and it did not include the five rows I added .. only the header row.If there is a better way to allow users to dynamically add rows to a table and then access the dynamically created table on the server then I'm all ears!

I have processes needing to post files to a ASP.NET application. These processes must post without runat=server as such:

On the ASP.NET page, in the Page_Load I would code somethign like this:

Here is the trick, the control "fileLIST_FILE" does not exist because the HTML does not have runat=server on it.
If the client did have runat=server the designer.cs would have somethign liek this:
System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlInputFile fileLIST_FILE;
With all that said, I want to make "fileLIST_FILE" on the fly inside Page_Load fromt he posted name of "MY_FILE".
do not focus on the fact that this is a file upload. I would like to know how to do this for any posted FORM data.

Second time you click, it does not go to server side and shows the data from the client side. Eg : News section in yahoo.com. Aug 17, 2010I have just downgraded 2 of my asp.net projects from framework 4 to framework 3.5. It looks like the latest framework has broken the datapager functionality. I consider this a pretty fundamental part of presenting data to the UI. Has anyone else experienced problems, and does nayone know when Microsoft will fix the problem. In my case when paging away from page one and then changing the page size via a dropdownlist (see below) all work fine.
If navigating to the last page and then selecting some more search criteria to perform another search the pager returns no records found, the record counts etc hold the previous search result counts and it is not until the search button is clicked again that the expected results are rendered.
All works correctly now, as intended after reverting back to framework 3.5.
