Forms Data Controls :: Can Include A Dropdownlist In A Listview
Jul 13, 2010
I have a listview that I am trying to initiate the connection string in codebehind. When I do it, I get the following error:The ConnectionString property has not been intialized.I know that I am successfully creating the connection string in codebehind because all other controls populate correctly from the dsame database.I do not get an error if I initiate the connection string in the html code.
Trying to use a dropdownlist to query a database so that it will return all values except 1 (or more in future versions).
For example, assume you had a simple table name "MYFRIENDS" which has two fields named "GROUP" and "NAME" with the following records:
Group Name A John B Jane C Tony D Sue
What I want to do is create a DropDownList that has only 2 list items related to the "GROUP" field. The first list item should return records from the database related to Group A only. Then, the second list item should return all other records EXCLUDING those belonging to Group A.
The drop down list should look something like this (I've put a question mark where I don't know what to do):
[Code]....
After the selection is chosen in the above drop down list, it should query the database and return the desired result. I'm using an AccessDataSource with select parameters. Here's a sample of what that looks like:
[Code]....
Things I've tried that didn't work:
I tried using "Not A" as the the 2nd list item's value. I was thinking p1 would be replaced with the value "Not A" and the query would read "WHERE GROUP LIKE Not A". But, the query syntax "Like Not" is technically wrong. I tried changing the Where Clause to "WHERE GROUP p1" and then replaced the list item's value to "LIKE A" and the second to "NOT LIKE A". Again, I was thinking p1 would be replaced to read "WHERE GROUP LIKE A" and "WHERE GROUP NOT LIKE A". I also tried changing the "SelectCommand" itself so that after the dropdownlist changed, it would first change the selectcommand first and then run the query.
Why the first 2 items didn't work became somewhat obvious to me after thinking about it for a little while. However, I would think the 3rd one would/should work... as long as you have the sequence of events correct which up to this point I haven't been able to figure out.
Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. error when I place a drop down list into my instert item template of my listview, but I have the exact same control in my edit view and it works fine, any reason I am getting this error? I know what it means but why would it work in the edit mode, and not the insert mode?
How can I populate a dropdownlist in an InsertItemTemplate in a ListView when it depends on another dropdownlist i.e. First DropDownList has a list of continents, once this one is selected DropDownList2 should be populated with the countries of the selected continent. Mind, of course both DropDownLists are inside the same InsertItemTemplate.
i have a listview linked to sqlDataSource1 and inside the listview in the itemtemplate i have a dropdownlist linked to another sqlDataSource2. in my item template I also have a button, I want to get the value that has been selected in the dropdownlist, click a button and launch a sql insert statement to insert data from the listview row and dropdowlist.selected value in another table.
how can I get data from the Dropdownlist, pass it to the "function()" in onItemCommand="function()" of my ListView instance, in order to achieve what I said before?.
In my edit template I want a dropdownlist containing a list of possible customers. The list is populated from a database table containing existing customers. If the main record has customer "XYZ", then I want that customer to be the default in the dropdown. I'm using VS 2008 and C# My markup for the dropdownlist is currently:
[Code]....
The dropdownlist is populated but the problem is it shows the first customer in the list. I don't want the user to have to rechoose customer if that is not what they are changing.
The Insert row in the ListView has an empty DropDownList and GetCountries() is not called. However, if I click the Edit button on an existing row, GetCountries() is called twice (not sure why) and the DropDownList is properly populated. Why isn't the InsertItemTemplate DropDownList getting populated?
on SelectedIndexChanged event handling of DropDownList in ItemTemplate of ListView. I put OnSelectedIndexChanged="DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged" in mark up, with code behind, but only to get Compiler Error Message: BC30456: 'DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged' is not a member of 'ASP.webform1_aspx'. How do I make it a member? When I do not put OnSelectedIndexChanged="DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged" in mark up, BC30456 does not pop up, but nothing happens when dropdownlist selected item is changed.
I have a dropdown list in ListView control in InsertItem Template. I want to bind the DropDownList when I Click on Link. I want to bind it in CodeBehind not to use Datasource. I tryed lot but not finding the DropDownList. See My Code....
<InsertItemTemplate> <tr> <td colspan="7"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="7"> <table border="0"> <tr> <td> </td> <td> Sector</td> <td>:</td> <td align="left"> <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDnSector" runat="server" ></asp:DropDownList> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator3" runat="server" Display="Dynamic" ControlToValidate="DropDnSector" SetFocusOnError="true" ValidationGroup="vgUpdate">* </asp:RequiredFieldValidator> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </InsertItemTemplate> lnkNew is my linkbutton outside the ListView Code Behind: Protected Sub lnkNew_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lnkNew.Click Try lvSubscription.InsertItemPosition = InsertItemPosition.LastItem lvSubscription.EditIndex = -1 BindDropDownList() fn_ShowSubscriptionLevel(fn_BindSubscriptionLevelEvents) Catch ex As Exception fn_ShowMessage(ex) End Try End Sub ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Protected Sub BindDropDownList() Try Dim objSector As IEnumerable(Of SystemBuilder.SystemBuilder_Sector) Dim objSubscriptionLevel As SystemBuilder.SystemBuilder_SubscriptionLevel Dim DDLSectorctrl As DropDownList objSector = CSectorDB.CSectorInstance().GetAllSector() If (lvSubscription.InsertItemPosition = InsertItemPosition.FirstItem Or lvSubscription.InsertItemPosition = InsertItemPosition.LastItem) Then DDLSectorctrl = CType(lvSubscription.InsertItem.FindControl("DropDnSector"), DropDownList) If DDLSectorctrl IsNot Nothing Then DDLSectorctrl.Items.Add(New ListItem("--Select--", "0")) For Each ObjRec As SystemBuilder.SystemBuilder_Sector In objSector DDLSectorctrl.Items.Add(New ListItem(ObjRec.SectorText.ToString(), ObjRec.SectorID.ToString())) Next End If ElseIf (lvSubscription.EditIndex >= 0) Then Dim DDLSectorctrl1 As DropDownList DDLSectorctrl1 = DirectCast(lvSubscription.Items(lvSubscription.EditIndex).FindControl("DropDnSector"), DropDownList) If DDLSectorctrl1 IsNot Nothing Then DDLSectorctrl1.Items.Add(New ListItem("--Select--", "0")) For Each ObjRec As SystemBuilder.SystemBuilder_Sector In objSector DDLSectorctrl1.Items.Add(New ListItem(ObjRec.SectorText.ToString(), ObjRec.SectorID.ToString())) Next objSubscriptionLevel = CSubscriptionLevelsDB.CSubLvlInstance().GetSubscriptionLevelDetailsBySubscrptionID(ViewState("ID")) If objSubscriptionLevel IsNot Nothing Then DDLSectorctrl1.SelectedValue = objSubscriptionLevel.SubscriptionID.ToString() End If End If End If Catch ex As Exception End Try End Sub
Now, what i want is that , when a user select something from any dropdownlist , a fuction should be called in which I can get column and row of that dropdownlist.
I can get the dropdownlist's id in that function along with row and column of dropdownlist.
I have a ListView that I need to populate a dropdownlist while rendering. For each rown in my table has a field called sizes which has data that looks like this "blue; red; yellow; green", I need to render a dropdownlist in the ItemTemplate with these values, I tried placing a PlaceHolder but I don't know how to populate it. I have tried to populate it OnItemDataBound and OnUnload but neither seem to work.
In my project I have a listview which I am binding from code behind. Now I would like to add a droppdownlist for each item in listview. So my question would be:
Is there a way to populate my dropdownlist whit data which I have in a List?
Here is a bit of code to show how my listview looks like:
I am trying to pass the value of a dropdownlist to the Update section of a listview. The dropdownlist is bound to one datasource which needs to then pass its selected value to the UpdateCommand sql for another datasource. Here is my code:
I'm trying to do a relatively simple thing, but just cannot get it to work. I'm trying to find a dropdownlist within a ListView ItemTemplate within Page_Load.
So I am using EW + Access database to create a page.
This page contains two controls. First control is Dropdownlist which databinds with second control Listview.
This listview has paging on becuse of multiple pages. If I don't use QueryStringField paging works but if I use QueryStringField paging doesn't work and it goes back to first option of Dropdownlist.
I would like to know if I can do the following: when I am in insert mode, can I dynamically change the select command of and then display that result in the second dropdownlist based on what was selected in the first dropdownlist.
I would like to include the minimum code to demonstrate what I am trying to do.
I have a dropdownlist in EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate which I want it to populate at the runtime while Inserting an item or Editing an item.
I am facing an issue regarding populating a dropdownlist dynamically while in Edit and Insert mode. There are 0 Records in my table and it shows "Empty Data message" in my Listview control. Even the ItemDataBound event does not fire. So I am not able to find the dropdownlist in that listview.
This is my Aspx code which shows only InsertItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate.
I have a dropdown list within a listview 'EditItemTemplate' and 'InsertItemTemplate" which I am trying to populate from the database with code behind with ItetmDataBound event. Problem is I am getting NullException when I use this code which works fine for ItemTemplate.
When the FormView is in Edit mode, ddlCategory is populated as expected by calling GetCategories(), which returns a List of categories. However, when the ListView is in Insert mode, ddlCountry is empty. I put a break point in GetCountries(), but it never gets called. If I change the name of the method, I get an error. So it recognizes the method at compile time, but does not call it at run time. I'm guessing this is an embedded binding issue of some kind, but I'm hoping someone can save me a lot of time by pointing out the solution.
I have a listview that is showing its result by using a linq query. The linq query goes like this.
[Code]....
* db.Varer: Varer is a table that contains basic product information like proudct name, product nr. etc. ** a.fk_kategori_id == CatParamId : I'm just saying limit the result according to the Category ID (a.fk_kategori_id). The category id is coming from a dropdownlist (CatParamID) *** Join: Besides the Varer (Product) table I also have another table, Sizes. This Sizes table contains 6 columns (ID_Sizes (int) primary key and the columns: OneSize, S, M, L, XL, XXL all are bit (true or false)). There is a relationship between Varer table and Sizes table. It says that I can only insert a value into the "fk_sizes_id - column" of varer table if that value already exists as primary key within the Sizes table. **** I'm starting by picking basic product values like productId, ProductName etc from the Varer (a) table ***** Then I'm picking the corresponding Sizes values (onesize, s, m, ...) from the Sizes table. Now within my ListView I'm showing the above result by using Eval, like this.
[Code]....
And this works perfectly, but now comes the thing that is causing me trouble. I have the below drop down list (still within the ListView ItemTemplate):
[Code]....
I want this drop down list to be populated with only those of the "linq query's Sizes table result" that are true. By "Sizes table result" I mean these
