Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownlist In Listview Edit Template

In my edit template I want a dropdownlist containing a list of possible customers. The list is populated from a database table containing existing customers. If the main record has customer "XYZ", then I want that customer to be the default in the dropdown. I'm using VS 2008 and C# My markup for the dropdownlist is currently:

The dropdownlist is populated but the problem is it shows the first customer in the list. I don't want the user to have to rechoose customer if that is not what they are changing.
I have a ListView Which displays Customer, product, price, Quantity and comments from database.The User can either edit it or Insert new items. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. I use click handler to pop up the windows.i'm not able to do with listview Please help to give a solution to it.How else can i add an image icon and click it and get the values back to the textboxes?i will post what i'm doing without listview first and then the part of the relavant code of Listview.
I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.
I have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.
I have a DetailsView that has a dropdownlist in side an EditTemplate. I need the dropdown list to have to options (Math and English) and wan tthe selected option to be whatever is already stored in the database. I can't seem to be able to get this set.

I know the problem has something to do with the dropdownlists not being instantiated or bound until I enter Edit mode. Is that right? In what event should I databind my dropdownlists? I've tried several things but could not get it to work. Do I have to loop through all the rows of my details view looking for the dropdownlists, or can I access them directly from some event?

In the detailsview, I set a edit item template (a bounded dropdownlist control). But in database there are some data not set to a value (null). After clicking edit button in detailsview control I get the error about the value problem (Because after populating the dropdownlist, there is no item as null in it. )How to set dropdownlist selected index when the data is "null"?
I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.
how to do this when the checkbox in listview layout template check select all checkboxes in listview itemtemplate.I dont give 'Eval 'field to checkbox present in itemtemplate.

I have a gridview with a dropdown list in the EditTemplate.This dropdown will get bound to a list object and the default selected value is picked based on the value of the ItemTemplate which is a Label.However I cant get reference to this ddl. I am using the ItemDataBound event of a ListView to attach data for the different kind of templates I am using. Well, actually, want to use - I have not yet figured out how to know which template is coming in in the ItemDataBound event. I want to figure out if it is the edititemtemplate, insertitemplate, itemtemplate, etc. All these templates have different controls (edit and insert are the same though) and I need to set the controls contained in them.
i have a dropdown list in edit mode and read only mode. If users upload pictures, i want them to chose a category for the uploaded pics and display it in a gridview as below.(See Picture below). When i include "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" in edit and item template mode, i get this error "'PictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value "
When i removed the "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" from edit and item template, i get the result on the pic below(screenshot). If u can see the pic below the category is not selected, it just display the -- No Category -- even when i chose a category for the pic. I want when a pic is uploaded and i category chosen, to display on the gridview. The code for the error message is below:
I'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?

I keep getting a null reference when I try to access a listbox inside the EditItemTemplate of a formview. I check the mode before accessing the control (Formview1.CurrentMode) to make sure it is in edit mode and even set it manually to edit mode again! But formview1.findcontrol("blah") returns null. Formview1.EditItemTemplate does not have a FindControl method, not sure what else to try.
In my listview object insert/edit template, I have two dropdownlists (category, subcategory). When a user selects a category (autopostback), I would like the subcategory dropdown to filter to only the those that match the categoryID from the category ddl. This seems to be complicated by the fact that it is in a listview object. I'm currently using a queryextender on the subcategory datasource, but I'm not sure how to apply the selectedvalue of the category to the queryextender. The subcategory just shows all items and is not filtered. How do you accomplish this?
I have a file upload control, in edit template and footer template and I want to store its path in database, but I am unable to get the path of from File upload control.
