Forms Data Controls :: Change Values / Dropdowns Without Rebinding Old Data And Updating Visibility Of Panels Based On Predefined Rules

I am working with a formview edititemtemplate. Currently in my page load, i have some stuff that would show or hide certain panels based on dropdownlist values. These dropdown values get binded during page load. I need to be able to change the values/dropdowns, without rebinding the old data, and updating the visibility of the panels based on predefined rules.
I have experimented with putting my formview.databind() in page load if isnotpostback, in prerender, in prerender if isnotpostback. I have tried my rules (ex if ddlState.selectedvalue = "DE" then pnlDelaware.visible = "true") in the page load, and the page render. I'm just not sure how to get the stars aligned here. The closest i have come is having the databind in the pageload if notispostback, and the rules in the prerender. However I get an error "dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.

I want to toggle a Textbox to be visible (true, false) contained within an InsertItemTemplate based on the data being Null/Empty.
It Works in the Item Template since it is calling the "select parameters", but once it is in the "insert parameters" on databinds, I am unable to get this to work.

(works in Item Templates, but not in InsertItemTemplate to toggle a textbox to be visible or not visible). I am using C# in code behind.

I have developed my application using Visual Web Developer 2008 express with Visual Basic code.
If I am working with 2 textboxs on a form, and I set the "Autopostback" to "true" for the first texbox then on the "changed" event, I can just add code to set the visibility to "true or "false" for the second textbox - it works fine. However, I do not seem to be able to figure out how to do the same thing when I am using a Dataview.
I have a table called "Customer" that contains 4 fields "CustomerName", "BasePrice", "LevelOfActivity", and "Discount".
My user enters information into this table using a Dataview form that displays the 4 fields.
When the user enters the value "L" in the field "LevelOfActivity", I would like to then set the visibility of the field "Discount" to "false" - (I want to hide the field as this customer should not get a discount). If the user enters the value "H" in the field "LevelOfActivity", I would like to then set the visibility of the field "Discount" to "true" - (I want to show the field so the user can enter the "Discount").

I have a details view with buttons in the footer. When the user clicks the edit button the calls the ChangeEditMode() method. I want to change the mode of the details view to edit mode which seems to work fine. It goes into edit mode with a text box. I also want it to set the visible property of the edit button to false and set the visible property of the update button to true. Then while still in edit mode the user can click the update button that will call the appropriate method to persist the changes.
I got the changemode() to change to edit but can't change the visible property of the buttons correctly. This is what I have so far. Can some one please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I have a GridView with an alternating Css style. The GridView has a column called tradeId. What I want to show is an alternating colour based on a change in the tradeId. Is this possible? here I can find some info on how to display data from my MSSQL database in something like old style tables (table,<tr>,<td>) becouse I used to done it like this in classic asp but i had a formula for calculating where to put tr or td and it becomed very confused, not to mention displaying gruped records like 10 on each page...I tried gridview in VisualStudio but I can not find any info how to use sql in it so I think it can not help me becouse it is to much predefined and I do not know where I can change code for it like what data source to use, sql and other important thing

First off - has any recent .NET / Windows Service Pack / Windows Update changed the behaviour around the Visibility of Panels / User Controls? An area of our site has all of a sudden stopped working. The most recent change that I made was a few weeks ago, I've backed out the change from my development environment, but the issue is still happening.
I'll explain what is happening. I have a couple of forms where the same behaviour is happening, but they follow the same pattern:
On the form there is let's say 2 ASP:Panel controls. In each of these there is a separate ASP:UserControl. When the User first visits the page, they are shown the first Panel and User Control. On this control they complete a couple of steps and click Next. This fires an event on the main page, which hides the first panel and shows the second panel, at least that is what is supposed to happen - and if I debug and step into the code this is what is happening as normal. Except on screen, the first panel is no longer being hidden, so it would appear clicking the Next button does nothing.
I'm at a loss as to what has happening - nothing has changed, and stepping through the code it's working correctly, but the screen is not reflecting what is happening in the code.
My next step is to create an isolated set of test pages to recreate the issue. Will attach when done and investigated, hopefully this will solve it

I am able to dynamily bind my grid to the cube based off the facillity I have selected. Now, if a facility has multiple cubes, I want the users to switch between the two cubes dynamicly, so I have created a drop down list showing their cubes and the ones that they can select. Currently I'm been trying several things in order to "rebind" the data but they don't seem to be working, so I figured I would attach my code to see if anyone Had a good idea.
If I make the cube change then switch back over to change facility and then back to the page, the new cube will load. So I have to find a way to do it in the one step rather then have them navigate to another page and then back again. Perhaps auto navigate them to a page and have that page send them back etc... Anyway here is the code: I first bind the data via the page_prerender call

I have a GridView and Formview attached to the same ObjectDataSource.
Everything is working ok so far.
If I enter new search criteria and click "Search", both the GridView and FormView rebind properly to the ObjectDataSource results. And I am able to page through the FormView records and they match the GridView records above.
When I click a sort link in the GridView, the ObjectDataSource returns the correct results based on the header link's commandName of 'Sort' and the CommandArg of 'SortExpression'.
The only thing wrong now is on the sort, the formview records do not reflect the reversing of the sorted record order. If I page through the FormView the records remain in the same order.
Why does the FormView not recognize the ObjectDataSource's changed results on the sort post back (even if it is only the sortExpression parameter of my ODS select method).
How do I get the FormView to rebind to the new ODS result set? I have called formview.DataBind() from every event I can think of. That does not seem to work either.

I have a text box in a FormView that I use to display the return value from the stored procedure that I'm using to maintain the data. For assorted reasons, I'm not able to use the built in ability of the FormView to manipulate the data.
I have the following code at the end of the procedure that calls the stored procedure. It is a snippet that omits the bulk of the procedure.

As is, the label text is updated with the message. However, when I uncomment out the code that manipulates the SQL Data Source and rebinds the FormView, the label text is NOT updated. I can't figure out why it craps out.
1) AdvisoryMessageText is declared at the class level for the code behind, so it should be retaining the value across all of the procedures as their caloled.
2) TextBoxAdvisoryMessage is contained within the FormView EditTemplate.

I'm using Accordion panes and gridviews which are created at run time. For each action item I create an accordion and then populate the tasks that are relevant to that action item in a gridview ( grid view is populated using the second query).
DataRow value dr[1].Tostring ( in the comments below in bold) is not updated with the next row value .

I am updating a gridview. Problem is that when I hide certain fields that I do not want the user to update, they lose their values ie. the data is wiped out in the field unless I show them on the grid and make them writeable. Is there a property I need to set for the field to retain the value when the grid is updated or is this in the sql statement?
