Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownlist Pulls From Sql Source Into A Formview To Save To Another Table?

Feb 15, 2011

I have a dropdownlist that pulls from a datasource. When a name is selected all information drops down to a formview. Once there 3 fields get populated from the dropdownlist and then there is 2 other fields that need user input. Once they hit submit, it should write to a different table in the same DB. I cannot get the fields to populate and write to the DB. Here is my code:

Forms Data Controls :: Formview LinqData Source Not Allowing Updates?

Aug 18, 2010

I've set up a formview with a Linqdata source to allow users to edit records. When I run it, edit data and submit, it blows up and tells me "Linq datasource6 does not support the Select property when the Delete, Insert or Update operations are enabled." I googled that warning and saw a couple of posts on this forum saying the problem is the slect statement has to be removed from the Linq data source for it to allow updates.

But if I remove the select statement then how do I show the user specific info on pageload? plus I thought the two way databind was an advantge of the datasource control.

Forms Data Controls :: 3.5 FormView Linq Data Source - All Fields

I'm exploring ASP.net. I have created a FormView based on Linq Data Sources. There are several fields in my datasource that are either future or archaic.

1) Do all fields in the DataSource need to have a control in the FormView?
2) Does ASP.net need to insert/update all fields in the DataSource?

Forms Data Controls :: FormView Data Source Calling Select Function On Page Load

Mar 24, 2010

I have a GridView and a FormView on the same page. They both have separate DataSources. This is a simple Master Details configuration, when a someone clicks on the Select link in the GridView, the FormView brings up the Details data. But for some reason the FormView's DataSource is trying to retrieve data when I load the page. This is causing an error because no ID is passed from the GridView.

Forms Data Controls :: Save All FormView Items At Once?

Oct 29, 2010

I have a page that displays information about a patient's case. The page has some textboxes, labels, etc., and it also has a FormView. The FormView displays details for a particular TEST for this case. The user can page through the different tests, and change some of the data.

There is a button on the page to save all of the case information. I need to save ALL of the tests bound in the FormView.

The two issues are:

I can't save the Test until the user clicks the "Save Case" button (because this is when the case is first inserted into the DB).I would like to avoid have a "save test" button inside of the FormView (because then the user has to page through all tests and save each one manually)How would I do this? I thought about saving the test info in Session somehow.

I have a page with some TextBox controls and also a FormView control that displays details for a particular version of a test. The user can page through the different versions. The user can edit some of the fields in the FormView.

Forms Data Controls :: Using Formview To Display And Save Dates In UK Format?

Jul 5, 2010

I am using a SQL DB to save and display a simple collection of data which contains several dates. As the intended audient is UK based, I wish to display the dates in a UK format (DD/MM/YY). This works well (using {0:d}) and the display and creation of records also works fine.

However, as all fields are editable, when the record is displayed in the Formview edit mode and saved, the dates field try and save in the UK format and will more often than not fail with an invalid date error. How can I display the date in a UK format yet get the same field to save in the usual SQL date format?

Forms Data Controls :: Formview: How To Pick A Filename And Save It To Database

Dec 13, 2010

In my application I have a formview, used for inserting/editing records in a product details table.

My problem is now, that one of the fields is used for the filename of a productimage, uploaded to a folder on the server from another page.

When inserting - or editing - a record, it should be possible somehow to get list of the files in the productimages folder, select one, and then store the filename (no path needed) in the database. basically I need some kind of 'file-picker' to select the filename and put it into a textbox. It could be anything from a dropdownlist to something more sofisticated - as long as I can include it in my formview.

ADO.NET :: How To Write A Query That Pulls Records From A Master Table

Mar 18, 2011

Being new to Linq and Entity Framework, I find myself struggling to write queries that are relatively simple in SQL. My latest challenge is how to write a query that pulls records from a master table and includes a column for aggregating data from related detail records. Let's start with this example:

List<Customer> list = (from x in Customer select x.Customer_ID, x.CustomerName).ToList();

Now I'd like to modify this so that I include a column indicating how many orders each customer has, where there is a one-to-many relationship between the Customer and Order entities. I suspect the solution might result in a List of an anonymous type rather than the List of Customer like my example, but that would be

Forms Data Controls ::How To Get Formview DropDownList In Updatepanel

May 8, 2010

Hi, i am newbie to asp.net. In my page there is a formview with sqldatasource. In which there is a dropdownlist wrapped with an updatepanel. What i'm trying to do is the re-bind ddlStudents after adding new row to the students table (using gridview and
ajax popup extender-both working fine, i'm being able to add new )

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="ddlUpdatePanel" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlStudents" runat="server"
DataSourceID="sdsStudents"
DataValueField="studentID"
DataTextField="name"
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("studentID") %>' >
asp:DropDownList>
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sdsStudents" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:myConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT studentID, name FROM tblStudents">
</asp:SqlDataSource>
after closing the popup,
Protected Sub btnClose_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
If IsPostBack Then
ddlUpdatePanel.Update()
ddlStudents.DataSourceID = "sdsStudents"
ddlStudent.DataBind()
modalPopupPanel.Hide()
End If
End Sub

I am getting error;

Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.

Forms Data Controls :: Updating Formview And DropDownList?

Mar 26, 2010

One of the fields on my formview is a dropdownlist. When I go into edit mode the dropdownlist gets set to the correct value and works fine up to this point. Problem is I just can't see how to get the newly selected value of the dropdownlist to persist to the database when update is clicked. The DDL is a category list and I want to allow changing of the category for each record. Like I said I have it working so it displays the correct category for the record but if I change the DDL (change category) the new selected value doesn't get updated in the database. It just keeps using the binded value that was originally assigned to the selected value of the DDL. see code snippit

[Code]....

The above snippet is how I am binding the DDL. Now to not bore you with a ton of code paste I use various events of the formview to make sure the value displayed in the DDL is correct for the record that I am viewing at the time. All that works just fine. Where I need some pointers is the when I enter edit mode and change the DDL from say fire to ice it isn't getting persited to the database, all other info in the record gets updated just fine but the DDL never changes. I have tried several angles to getting this working and TBH my brain is yelling BREAK TIME.

Forms Data Controls :: Programmatically Populate A DropDownList In A Formview?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a dropDownlist in a Formview Edit and Insert Template that is Bound to a Field, It is for a credit card expiration date, so I want to programatically populate it so it will automatically show the next 8 years from this year. Works fine!

Except When I add it to the Formview, and click on edit it gives me an error basically saying my record does not match the list item data, but it should since it shows the year just fine. So I am figuring that it is not binding the ListItems to the dropdownlist.

I have tried every event I could try and I always get the same error. I have tried the ModeChanged, DataBound, DataBiding, PreRender, Load on both the Formview and the DropDownList, but no go. How do I do this?

[Code]....

This works fin on a DropDownList that is not in a FormView, so I know its not the Code. and the record I am updating is 2010, so the record is not out of range

Forms Data Controls :: Populating DropDownList In FormView From Code Behind?

Oct 25, 2010

On my formview I have a drop down list that is populated with the names of the files in a certain directory. This works fine, but when the drop down list selected value is bound to the database field I get the following error :

'ImageFileDropDownList' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value

I have setup other drop down lists in the same formview populated from SqlDataSources and these all work fine. I can see perhaps why this is an issue because I have not specified a DataValueField or a DataTextField for this drop down that is populated in code (whereas I can for the SQL bound ones) because I'm not sure what these settings would be.

I need to have a "blank" option as well so that the field does not default to the first value in the list.

Forms Data Controls :: Prepare Dropdownlist Selectedvalue To Be A ControlParameter Source For ObjectDataSource?

Apr 12, 2010

I have following in many controls:

<asp:ControlParameter Name="SvcCluster_Id" ControlID="frmConfigEdit$ddlCluster" PropertyName="SelectedValue" />

Everything was good before I bumped into the problem when declarative binding (SelectedValue='<# Bind("SvcCluster_Id") >') produced the error, because value has not been found in the list. So i moved binding to the code:

protected void frmConfigEdit_DataBound(Object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
if (frmConfigEdit.CurrentMode == FormViewMode.Edit)
{
var svcCluster_id = DataBinder.Eval(frmConfigEdit.DataItem, "SvcCluster_id");
var ddlCluster = (DropDownList)frmConfigEdit.FindControl("ddlCluster");
if (svcCluster_id != null && ddlCluster.Items.FindByValue(svcCluster_id.ToString()) != null)
{
ddlCluster.SelectedValue = svcCluster_id.ToString();
}
}
}

But now seems like this happens later than ObjectDataSource tries to access frmConfigEdit$ddlCluster...

How to manage this?

I wouldn't like to move everything to the code (I mean creating Control parameters, etc)

p.s. Oops, actually it works ok for DataBound event! Sorry.

Forms Data Controls :: FormView - Inserting A Value From A Joined Table?

Mar 11, 2011

I'm joining 2 tables and using the formview. When I insert a record, I need to place the value of the max id + 1 of the second table in a field in the first table so that the tables are linked. I'm not sure where to put the value. I try to put it in the insert command and I've tried the select command but that doesn't work.

Table 1 - Product: ID, ProductNum, Brand, Description
Table2 - Brand: ID, BrandName
(Brand from Table1 is linked to ID from Table 2)
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
DeleteCommand="DELETE FROM [Product] ..."
InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Product] ([productNum], [Brand] VALUES (@productNum, @Brand)"
SelectCommand="SELECT Product.ID, Product.Brand, Product.Description, Brand.ID, Brand.BrandName From Product INNER JOIN Brand ON Product.Brand= Brand.ID"
UpdateCommand="UPDATE [Product] SET [productNum] = @productNum, [Brand] = @Brand ......"

I've Tried InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Product] ([productNum], [Brand] VALUES (@productNum, MAX(@Brand.ID) +1)"

or setting BrandID =Max(@Brand)
