Forms Data Controls :: How To Bind Dropdownlist In EditItemTemplate In FormView Control
Aug 16, 2010
Using Visual Web Developer Express 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0.
I have a FormView and I want to set a default value from the database. I can't get it to bind to the value in the database. My FormView looks like this:
[Code]....
The EditItemTemplate does not even load when I click the edit button on my FormView control, but I don't get an error message either.
Using Visual Web Developer Express 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0.
I have a FormView and I want to set a default value from the database. I can't get it to bind to the value in the database. My FormView looks like this:
I have requirement to bind ASP.Net DropDownList control in EditItemTemplate of GridView.
I preferred the tutorial:
[URL]...
i have followed same steps just but difference is i have a edit imagebutton with commandname="Edit".Also dropdown needs to be binded from different table(directory) and not the table through whicch grid is binded(details).
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow && (e.Row.RowState & DataControlRowState.Edit) == DataControlRowState.Edit && GridView1.EditIndex == e.Row.RowIndex) { DropDownList DStatusEdit = (DropDownList)e.Row.FindControl("DStatusEdit"); string query = "select distinct status from directory"; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query); DStatusEdit.DataSource = GetData(cmd);
[CODE]..
the page is running but when i click edit image button the dropdwn shows but no data in dropdown binded it is empty.
My gridview is inside update panel.
How can i achieve this?
Should dropdownlist in my case be binded inside rowcommand and how?
I'm attempting to load DropDownLists from the C# codebehind as the FormView switches modes to Edit and displays the EditItemTemplate. I present the data in a FormView ItemTemplate using text boxes. When the user selects Edit, I have been attempting to load the EditItemTemplate dropdownlists by creating a dataset and binding it to the control, without success.
I've successfully loaded them in previous projects from within the .aspx code using <asp:ListItem> and within the C# code behind using Control.Items.Add(new ListItem), which are essentially the same thing of course . This project is different in that I want to get the data from a stored procedure on a MSSQL server.
In my latest attempt, I can see the data in the datasets. I'm getting "Error connecting to database.'eitRace' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.Parameter name: value"
I include the code below. If someone could point me to an example I would be greatful. There has to be an elegant way of accomplishing this.
How to write code in vb.net to control the Dropdown which is inside FormView EditItemTemplate. FormView named "frmFaultsReg" DetailsView named "lstStatus" Actually what i want to do that there is a textbox inside FormView EditItemTemplate and ItemTemplate to insert Closing date. lstStatus has a value PENDING and CLOSED. If a user select CLOSED from lstStatus then the date textbox named "ClrDateTimeTextBox" should show current date time and to insert into database and if user again selects PENDING from lstStatus then the date textbox should show empty. I think the postback of lstStatus should work but lstStatus is inside the FormView thats why I am unable to hook it.
I have a FormView with an EditTemplate. And the EditTemplate contains an ascx control:
<asp:FormView ID="fvTicketUpdate" runat="server"
[code]...
The contents of the ascx control has TextBox and DropDownList controls binding to the results of the FormView's ObjectDataSource through Text='<%# Eval("field1") %>'and SelectedValue='<%# Eval("field2") %>'.This works fine and I have been building all of my front end pieces like this as <asp:Panels> rendering as FieldSets that go 100% across the screen. And we call these areas "strips" accross the screen. But now I've run into a problem. One TextBox and one DropDown bind fine to a Ticket Object. But the DropDownList that works has its <asp:ListItems> hardcoded before hand. Now I have DropDownList that gets populated through a WebService in the ascx's code behind like this:
public partial class UserControls_FormControls_PntipUpdtFaaInfo : System.Web.UI.UserControl { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack)
[code]...
The Problem I think is the FormView is trying to do its Bind to the objectDataSource before its child ascx control is loaded in the Edit Template. And I am getting this error:
Databinding methods such as Eval(),XPath(),and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.Meaning that the control must already be databound to bind the selectedValue to a Property of the TicketObject. Is there an easy way to force the order of loading to make the PntipUpdtFaaInfo control load and have its Page_Load execute and bind ddlEquip before the FormView does its first dataBind and executing its Evals?Otherwise I have to take out the eval on the ddlEquip SelectedValue attribute and go to the Parent Page and hack and force everything to happen when it needs to.This layout has worked out well for me.All of the ascx area strips across the screen share the same Validation Summary for example. It allows me to think about one section at a time and the Properties to the Business Obect and CRUD methods as I go.But this is a big brick wall I've hit.
I have a dropdown list within a listview 'EditItemTemplate' and 'InsertItemTemplate" which I am trying to populate from the database with code behind with ItetmDataBound event. Problem is I am getting NullException when I use this code which works fine for ItemTemplate.
I have a Formview which contains a radiobuttonlist control in the EditItem template. I want to access the radiobuttonlist control and change the selected item client side using javascript.I've tried various combinations of document.getElemetByID and getElementsByName etc. but with no luck.Does anyone know to get to a radiobuttonlist controls in a FormView Edititem template using javascript?
I have a formview which binds to a table where one of the fields is an integer zip-code field. I want to pad the zip with a leading zero in the edit template when the zip is something like "02134". How do I edit the bound data without "breaking" the two-way binding?
I wrote simple function to add the zero and return a string:
Public Function padZIP(ByVal zip As Integer) As String Dim tmpStr As String = CType(zip, String) If tmpStr.Length = 4 Then tmpStr = "0" & tmpStr Return tmpStr End Function
I have a formview in which I have a dropdown list that displays a list of owners. In case the list does not have the correct owner for the user I have added functionality for them to add a new owner to the database table that populates the list. I did this by including a textbox and an Insert button in a panel. When the user clicks the new owner insert button I would like to re-databind the dropdown list so that they will see the owner they added and be able to select it.
When I add ddl_owners.databind to my button click code it gives me an error. "Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control."
I don't want to re-databind the entire formview because then it deletes all the information on the form that the user has already keyed in.
I've seen this before, I fixed long time ago and now cannot remember how I did :) My store procedure won't update the record because the sql field 'itemId' is being passed as ZERO always.
I have an ObjectDataSource with a number of parameters. These parameters are binded in my FormView EditItemTemplate and the ItemTemplate. My Stored Procedure column names in my ItemTemplate are different to the Bind properties used in the EditItemTemplate. This is obviously throwing an exception when I update a record.
Instead of using Bind("Columne Name") in my EditItemTemplate how do I use a ControlParameter to reference a TextBox in the EditItemTemplate?
I may be wrong but I'm trying to use the PropertyName=Controls but i do not know how to reference the Textbox in the EditItemTemplate.
I have a dropdownlist embedded into an asp.net gridview. I have successfully populated the dropdown list in the footer but have not been able to populate the dropdownlist in the EditItemTemplate. Here is my code that works. I need to do the exact same thing for a dropdownlist embedded in the update functionality of the gridview.
I have two embedded dropdown lists in Gridview control. One gives you business channel options and the other represents products depending on the business channel selected.I am trying to use different data sources for product dropdown list depeding on what the user selected from the business channel drop down list. How could I do this. Here is my current code:
I have a gridview and it has two EditItemTemplates. I want to update the items inside the second dropdown (EditItemTemplate) when I select an item from the first dropdownlistbox (EditItemTemplate). I want to update dropdownlist2 when I select an item from dropdownlist1. How can I do this?
i hvae a database named anil and TABLE NAMED COURSE_IN fields are (gridview with regnumber, name, dtjoin, qual, OY, OTY,VDA) and another table course with (OY, OTY,VDA) fiedls. my grid view displays adata from databse with edit facility.
one dropdownlist out side grid selected value is displayed in gridview
GridView gvchild = e.Row.FindControl("gvOrders") as GridView; drplist = gvchild.FindControl("drp1") as DropDownList; // den also same error object reference not set to an instance of an obj
I have DataList control and I want to assign to it's edititemtemplate some User Control. The problem is I can't find when I should databound UserControl to data, as my UserControl doesn't have static look (it renders different depending on some property values and datasource).
I was try to simply set my user control in edititemtemplate
I have a Formview residing inside am Item Template of a Gridview. The formview is not populating, and I am pretty convinced that I am not passing the parameter properly from the Gridview to the Formview. I have listed the relevant code only, so that you can scan though it easierGridview tag:
