May 13, 2010I have a Data field of type "Integer" below is my Edit Template for this Data field

Here is my problem When I try to edit this record, in the Edit mode, this Data field shows the number correctly with formatted e.g. 22,344 if I click on Save the record, it will give me the error "Input string was not in correct format". If I edit this number and remove the "," between numbers then it saves. What can I do to make this work? If I remove the "{0:#0}" then in the edit mode the number will show as 22344 without any comma separation. Note: On the same page I have other Data field of type "Money" and it works with the format applied ???? why does it works with the Money type and not Int???

Oct 21, 2010I have a web page with a gridview control and a button for Exporting to Excel
I get following error when exporting to Excel.
"The file you are trying to open, 'someFileName[1].xls, is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
Clicking Yes opens the file. I would like to avoid showing the above error to the users.
Following code is used from the click event. I've left the commented code here to show what I've tried based on results from internet search. I have Microsoft Office Excel 2007 on local PC.

Apr 12, 2010I have a gridview with linq and in the itemtemplate I have a column like this :
Bind("SUPERFICIE","{0:N00}")
If I display my gridview, I have this kind of value : 6'555
When I delete this row I have this error :
Failed to define one or more properties of type DS.MY_TABLE 6'555 is not a valid value for Decimal.
Apparently, when I use a format on bind, it change my values in my ds and I cannot delete my row!
I don't understand, because in my logic with the bind format I don't need to correct some formats for delete a row !

Mar 29, 2011I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:

Apr 6, 2010I'm retreiving information from a Progress database and databinding it to a repeater control. The line with repeater1.databind() gets an error saying "Input string was not in a correct format". The weird thing is that I only get it for one specific date, ie. when I choose rows based on a date in a specific column. That would suggest there is something wrong with the data in these rows, but I cant find anything. And you basically can not put anything "corrupted" in it, its a commercial system which I have not developed myself.
What are the possible reasons for this error? Why does it trigger on databinding and not when, for instance, I try to convert a value?

Oct 22, 2010I have a gridview that was displaying and handling postbacks correctly, that is, until I upgraded to .net 4.0 (vs 2010) from .net 3.5. Now I am getting the classic (and in this context meaningless) "Input string was not in a correct format" error upon postback. The postback is initiated by a command button and the row command event handles everything nicely.
The trace shows internal grid postback handling and nothing else:

From experience, I know this happens on late binding with wrong type casting on the ASPX side of things. However, nothing has changed. The code is the same, the only thing that changed is the upgrade to 4.0.
I have tried everything I (and a coleague) can think of to figure out what the issue is without luck. No error is raised on the code behind in any method. The only error raised is the Page_Error event and the error object contains the same crap you see in the yellow screen dump (above).
UPDATE: I narrowed the issue down to the RaisePostBackEvent method. I had to reflect the System.Web (for educational purposes of course :) assembly to figure out the code executing after my RowCommand logic(which is fine) breaks. This happens in the HandleEvent method. It checks for known command names (e.g. Select) and if it can't find a match, it defaults to the following:

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? The row object is NULL which is why it defaults to the cast. The cast assumes the argument to be an integer however and in my case I am passing a string as an argument?

Mar 21, 2011I have a simple web form that takes data inputted by a user online but I can't get the date field formatted so it can allow UK short date format to be entered. I need to allow dates to be entered like this: dd/mm/yyyy but currently if I enter the UK format date 25/02/2011 I get an error, as the field is in US format (mm/dd/yyyy).
It's a SQL database created from within MS Visual Web Developer 2010, and I'm a SQL newbie.
How do I change the date format to UK so UK format dates can be accepted?
