Dec 15, 2010I have a database that tells me what contract is in effect on specific streets but between mile marker values.
For example, Main Street is 10 miles long. Contract ABC123 applies to miles 0 - 4.9, and contract 999555 applies to miles 5-10.
My user will enter the street name and mile value into textboxes, and the results will be displayed in a gridview.
Getting the Street name portion of the query is working fine, it is this mile value that is confusing me.
In my table I have StreetName for the name of the street, and for the mile range of the street the table has BegMile (beginning value) and EndMile (ending value).
How do I get the correct answer back when my user is entering a value between BegMile and EndMile?

The user is getting a 500 internal error occurred. What he is trying to do is create a datagrid. The error only happens when there are a lot of data used to build the grid. But why exactly is it too much data? And can I increase a buffer or set something in a config file to allow all the data? The data come from a web service.

However I can't figure out how to populate the controls in my repeater in my code behind code.
At the moment I am having to specify the database field e.g productprice with the control in the .aspx page like this

I would rather specify fields in my code behind than embedding them in the .aspx page.
I also have a subtotal label control in my repeater that I would like to populate its text property by mutiplying two of the database values e.g productprice * unitprice shown in my repeater.
I need to do this in code behind, looping through the repeater. Any idea of how I can do this in C#?

And I can't for the life of me figure out why when I change the original value in an edit textbox and post the update the new value is not being passed. I get the original value. Mar 9, 2010An exception is thrown in the gridview because the database was not updated with the latest stored procedure. This is no uncommon situation, right?
The problem is that I have to debug to see the exception. If a just run the project everything looks fine (except that the grid never is loaded).
I want the application to crash hard when exceptions are thrown. How can I accomplish this?

Mar 12, 2010It has to do with the RowCommand 'Cancel'. When clicking on my Edit button for a row, the GridView puts the row into edit mode without a problem (I have no code for the Edit command, I let the control do everything).
Once in Edit mode, if I click the Cancel button (again, I have no code handline this RowCommand, I let the control handle it (like i do with many other GridViews)) I get the following exception:
"System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control."

Jan 17, 2011I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express with C# 2008 and .NET v4.0 to create a website which will have a database application. The database is SQL Server 2008.
I would have searched this forum for similar questions but I can't find a 'Search this forum' option! So I apologise if someone has already answered this.
I've successfully displayed rows from my database by dragging and dropping a GridView and an SQLDataSource control onto my page, and by using the Connection Wizard to set them up. But when I go live with my new pages, I will have to put my database in a different folder, and until I edit the web.config connection string to point at it I expect to get an exception.
I understand that when you try and open a database connection, this is the perfect place to use try...catch exception handling. But all the examples I can find put the try-catch code on the Button_Click event! Where should I put it? I can' t find anywhere where my controls actually attempt to open the database!
I know I could rip out what I've done and write all the code to connect to the database myself, but as I've finally got everything to work I would prefer to make the change as small as possible. So, what is the minimum change I have to make to add exception handling to my datasource/ gridview?
