Say i have this field called "Sold" and it has the value "1234.5600"
How can i display it like "1,234.56" ?

I need to format this date time into the format Day/Month/Year on the same template field.
I am avoiding doing this under SQL server because that will mean changing my data type in my dataset to string instead of data time which i do not want.

I think it's very simple but i just don't see it at this point: I have a detailsview that's bound to a sqldatasource. I want to have access to the data in a field in the table thats not currenty bound/used in the detailsview. I have a table which has one collumn that contains a username of the user who submitted the record. This field is not bound in the detailsview.I want to have the detailsview show delete/edit buttons only if the current identity matches the value in this collumn of the currently bound record. But i don't want to show this field as a row in the detailsview. I thought maybe i can access this field in the databound event of the dview and create/show the buttons here. But how can a access this data if it's not used in a dview field? I also tried creating a templatefield for this field and set it to visible = false. But then i also can't access the data it seems.

The gridview will be populated with some columns with values.
The problem is that the values are formated like this 1234.5600 and i want them to be like 1,234.56
I am populating a DataTable and binding it to a GridView's source.
I have a dropdown box in an itemtemplate in the gridview.
I want the dropdown to have 3 options and depending on what is in a column from row in datatable a specific value will be selected.
I was able to do this when I was binding gridview source by looping through SQL but now I that I am putting the results in a datatable I am not sure how to go about it.
I ran into this problem I'm sure someone else has similar encounter with, but just couldn't find a solution for it!
I want to disable few entries in the dropdownlist that's in the template field, depending on the value in BoundField when the gridview is being populated.

JobStatus is the dropdownlist in the template field, and Status is the boundfield. In run time, the bolded line causes below exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. which I think is wingeing about null variable. Perhaps the templatefields are created after RowDataBound event?
i use a gridview to show data from datasource, but i have some column in this gridview that they're not bound. If i go in edit mode, my unbound control show me the textbox to enter value and its ok, but if i modify value thru rowdatabound, now when i go in edit mode, the textbox are not showing as i expect, its just showing the value i put in rowdatabound, but i don't have the textbox to let me enter a new value and update it after.
And more in the same relation: with the two above condition i wrote, when i dont modify value in rowdatabound, i can modify value in prerender event with this line:

but
when again i modify value in rowdatabound, the line above will not work too, box1 is load with a null value
I'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?

I have a gridview control bound to a sqldatasource in c#. In the rowdatabound event I look at a value in a cell and use a function to evaluate the value and depending on that value I populate an added unbound column in my bound datagrid to show an excalmation point. I now want to sort by the column with the excalmation point.
View 2 RepliesI'm using ASP .NET C# 3.5. I have a multiline textbox on my web form that allows for the input of up to 5,000 characters from the end-user. This text is a basic description of a training course. I need to display it out in a clearly formatted way. For example, I need there to be bullets and bold text.
What I did was I chose certain (not often used) characters and then used the .Replace method when displaying the text in an <asp:Label>. If the text in the database contains the character '~' then I replace that with a line break <br />. If it contains '`' I replace that with <b> and if it contains '^' I replace that with </b>.
Is there a better way of doing this? It is working properly, and I'm displaying the text properly, but I know the end-user is going to hate typing text like this for formatting. I do want this all to stay database driven as well

I have a gridview on my aspx page. I know we can format gridview row in rowdatabound() of gridview. But my problem is bit different.
In my gridview, i have a column customer code, a single code can repeat more than once successively. I want for one customer code, row color should be blue and as soon as code changes colour should be yellow for that code. Similarly when code changes again color should be blue again.
In this way color of my gridview rows should be blue and yellow alternately based on my customer code.I have arranged customer code in order by using sql order by clause.

I've got a Gridview in which I have a column that shows percentages. I use the 0:P2 to format the percentage into readable format. However when the user 'edits' the particular row the percentage sign % still shows up in the textbox. When the user tries to save/update their change I throw an error on the % sign.
Is there a way to show the % only when the row isn't in an editable state?

I'm displaynig plain text in a Gridview and the format is not the one I'm looking for here's what's happening. The data in the database (SQL) is store as sample1

However in the Grid view is displayed like this:

If it is not autogeneratedcolumn Gridview I would have used DataFormatString="{0:dd-MMM-yy}"
However, this time it is a autogeneratedcolumn Gridview so I cannot use the above code anymore.
So can I set that column format programmatically ?
