Forms Data Controls :: Formatting Updating An Edit With Template Field?

I'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?
The error: Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !
I ran into this problem I'm sure someone else has similar encounter with, but just couldn't find a solution for it!
I want to disable few entries in the dropdownlist that's in the template field, depending on the value in BoundField when the gridview is being populated.

JobStatus is the dropdownlist in the template field, and Status is the boundfield. In run time, the bolded line causes below exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. which I think is wingeing about null variable. Perhaps the templatefields are created after RowDataBound event?
I need to format this date time into the format Day/Month/Year on the same template field.
I am avoiding doing this under SQL server because that will mean changing my data type in my dataset to string instead of data time which i do not want.
I have a gridview where I am using the update. I have converted the label into a templatefield and added a dropdownlist which is getting polulated in the Rowdatabound event. When I test the update i get an error
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'StartTime', table 'HTC.dbo.EventDates'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails.The statement has been terminated. so I am ussuming its still trying to update from the label rather than using the dropdownlist. here is my code:
I have an edit template on gridview which opens a text box and button with a custom validator .
On button press I have to validate the text in edit item template with a text field in gridview row template.
I am having a hard time fetching the data of the edit template textbox. Even though both custom validator and textbox are in same edit item template but intellisense is not picking it up.
Also the custom validator server_validate event is using "object source" instead of "object sender"
How do I fetch the edit item template text for comparison

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.
I have a gridview which the columns are created programmatically.
When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

Someone know how can I bind a label item template from the datasource. The label item template should be firstname + middlename + lastname.
If im not doing it programatically, it will be just concatenating eval(). But how can create item template and bind it programmatically?
Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.
I want to have a listview with conditional formatting on its edit and delete button.So, in nutshell, I want to check if the writer of post is equal to session("memberid"), then the edit and delete button will be appeared, else, it will show hidden.

This will create multiple fields in the gridview with some values. Say i have this field called "Sold" and it has the value "1234.5600" How can i display it like "1,234.56" ?
I'm using ASP .NET C# 3.5. I have a multiline textbox on my web form that allows for the input of up to 5,000 characters from the end-user. This text is a basic description of a training course. I need to display it out in a clearly formatted way. For example, I need there to be bullets and bold text.
What I did was I chose certain (not often used) characters and then used the .Replace method when displaying the text in an <asp:Label>. If the text in the database contains the character '~' then I replace that with a line break <br />. If it contains '`' I replace that with <b> and if it contains '^' I replace that with </b>.
Is there a better way of doing this? It is working properly, and I'm displaying the text properly, but I know the end-user is going to hate typing text like this for formatting. I do want this all to stay database driven as well
I have a detailsview control linked to a SQL DB. I have created a template field with various controls within. When I click on edit and change the values and press update. The detailsview control changes back to read only and displays the original values. I have attached the code for the control and datasource below.
where I have gone wrong? changing from VS2003 DataGrid to VS2010 GridView; still on SQL Server 2000 so the wizards for autogenerating the code are not compatible.
Delete works, RowUpdating does not. I have a gridview with a dropdown list in the EditTemplate.This dropdown will get bound to a list object and the default selected value is picked based on the value of the ItemTemplate which is a Label.However I cant get reference to this ddl. Which event shoud I try.and is there any fault in using Row.FindControl("");
I have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.

I have a gridview and detailview in an updatepanel. My detailview is setup to display the details of a record that is selected in the gridview. When I edit the values in the detailview and click update it does not update the gridview. If I check my database the values have been changed it just haven't been updated in my gridview. Below is my code for the two objects and their datasources.
In my edit template I want a dropdownlist containing a list of possible customers. The list is populated from a database table containing existing customers. If the main record has customer "XYZ", then I want that customer to be the default in the dropdown. I'm using VS 2008 and C# My markup for the dropdownlist is currently:

The dropdownlist is populated but the problem is it shows the first customer in the list. I don't want the user to have to rechoose customer if that is not what they are changing.
I'm new to asp.net 3.5 and I have been working through the tutorials using a real access database to learn how to use the new controls. I have an extremely simplistic page setup with a master-details view, the master using the gridview, and the detail using the detailsview controls. Everything seemingly functions correctly, except when I try to update the data in the details view. I make changes to the record, click update and the page posts back but nothing is updated in the database. No errors are given either.
i am updating data using editcommand by listview.. i got data max 50 depends on customers sometimes it has a few in the database. i am using listview and sqldatasource. when i update using editcommand in listview. it doesnt update relevant rows. it update to all data in database. why.. i have provided datasoure and list view.
I have used this before with no issues. Now I get to the page with the detailsview using parms I pass with the key to the row. When the page opens the row I want to update is displayed.
I am having 2 issues. One when I change any of the fields and hit Update (the Edit button),
all rows are updating not just the row displayed. The second problem is I have an update_date and an Updated_by field with code in code behind in the Onitemupdating event and they are not updating at all. (This bit of code works fine in another page I have to updated similar fields on an insert).
i have a dropdown list in edit mode and read only mode. If users upload pictures, i want them to chose a category for the uploaded pics and display it in a gridview as below.(See Picture below). When i include "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" in edit and item template mode, i get this error "'PictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. When i removed the "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" from edit and item template, i get the result on the pic below(screenshot). If u can see the pic below the category is not selected, it just display the -- No Category -- even when i chose a category for the pic. I want when a pic is uploaded and i category chosen, to display on the gridview. The code for the error message is below:
