How do I find the type of a value in the ordered dictionary in the FormViewUpdateEventArgs NewValues collection? I want to be able to only inspect the string values in the collection. I tried the GetType method but I get a compiler error saying the type will never be string (I think it is always dictionary entry). How do I find out the underlying type?
View 2 RepliesUsing .NET 4 with a modal popup extender and an update panel, it appears that when doing an update the first time, everything is fine. NewValues contains the new value and OldValues is empty. When attempting a second update, NewValues now contains both the old value and the new value separated by a comma, while OldValues is still empty. It seems to me like OldValues should have the old value and NewValues should just have the new value. This only happens when the formview is within the update panel. When it is removed, it works fine (although OldValues is never populated).

1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database
2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email.
I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time.
It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it.
The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:

The Second page confirms the users information by taking those session variables and placing them into labels:

However, after I place information into the formview on the first page, it throws up this error:
"Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid".

Basically, what I did is that: I have a table in SQL database and some of data fields allow null. I built Objectdatasource through dataset. When I built update page using dataset. Now i want to retrive empname and empimg field in my web form. To do this i have taken one data list control. I have wriiten all code to get desired data but i am only getting empname from data base, not getting his/her image from databse. let me tell you i have stored images in database as a binary data. so how to retrive this binary data in datalist as an image.Below is my datalist control.

I have a mySQL datasource pulling back data from a query and populating a formview in edit item mode ( I only use this mode ). All is good. Business logic is such that some dates can be null. When I was putting the null or "" dates into a text box there was no problem, some users had problems with dates so I used the datepicker lite control, now the null or "" dates cause a data type conversion error stating that an empty sitrng "" cannot be cast to type date. It basically barfs here

This is obviously in the asp source portion of the code and there is no code in the classic VB section fo the page, it is all done by drag and drop controls and databinding.How can I fix this error and yet still allow users to put in a date, when applicable, and save the update with the new date added. eg I dont want to take out the databind if I can no longer save that field back to the db.

My problem is that I am unsure how to bind these to the field from the database on postback. I.e. I am trying to find the code behind equivalent bind('currency');
I can populate the dropdown with the current value from the database but cannot find how to save a new value on updating the detailsview.
I am gettinga syntex error. Is Primary field is a bit data type in the database.

Trying to explain this clearly. I have a dropdown listbox where user can select multiple names. These names are then selected/inserted into db table in a loop. Table is displayed in an editable gridview. I have a main sqldatasource1 on my aspx page with select/insert/update permissions, but because select command doesnt work with parameters of multiple values (or does it?), i resorted to using an alternative sql datasource in the codebehind in order to run the select query on the multiple values chosen from the dropdownlist to see if they were in my table.I now get this error when I go to select multiple names from the dropdown list
