Jan 24, 2010how can I get the ID of the item that inserted into a formview? I want the ID to appear in a textbox right after the insert. How can I do this?

The value for this column gets put in a TextBox in the FormView.When trying to edit the record, any text placed in the textbox gets truncated at 50 charactersI checked the TableAdapter in my dataset, and in the properties for that column, it has "255" for MaxLength.

Here when i click on button it insert all data into table but it didn't insert my selected item from dropdownlist it insert select city that i define in page_load

I need to set the SelectParameter ('Serial') of the datasource to be the value of a field on the current page in the formview. The value i need to get is in the ItemTemplate and is a label called 'SerialNumberLabel'. So, something like:

Jun 12, 2010I have been trying for a while to populate a formview when I select an item from the dropdownlist. The dropdownlist is outside of the formview. For some reason, when I select a different item it does not change in the formview. Only the first item of the list shows up. I don't know where I'm doing wrong. I tried many things and suggested informatioin and I still could not get it to work. When I do try to switch I get this error message:

Mar 15, 2010In web config file I have add key values specified.
In the formview I have labels on edit , item and insert mode that I want to display all the time by getting those values from web config. I'm able to do that with no problem but when I change the modes between edit to insert or item view, I lose those label values until I hit the "select" twice from the Gridview, those values re-appear. Below is the snippet of the code. What do I need to do to retain the category values all the time?

When i add an item from this grid i would like to link it with the current Item : So I insert the Item with the GridView InsertMethod then I do another Query an the ItemRelation with idParentItem as the courant Item and the Inserted Item as the idSonsItem !
so the question is : How to get the id of an inserted Item after i get executed the InsertMethod ?

Mar 3, 2010I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

Jan 23, 2011I've done a lot of searching on this her on SO but I can't seem to find anyone who has done this. I'm sure it's a common problem but I can't figure out the right keywords to search for the solution so I'm sorry if this is a duplicate.I have a dataset where I've used the Generate Insert, Update, and Delete statements as well as the Refresh the Data Table options so that I can retrieve the last inserted ID when I'm using an ObjectDatasource.however, when I'm handling the ObjectDataSource-Inserted method, I'm getting a 1 as a return value, which I assume is the affected rows. I don't want that, I want the ID so that I can use it in my code.I looked at the generated code for the insert method and it is doing a SELECT after inserting, but it returns the whole row not the ID, so how can I get at this row to retrieve the value?

Oct 27, 2010I use a ItemDataBound for a repeater.But i use 2 kinds of linq querys to bind it.Some of them has a MerkID, and some doesnt have this item.So its easy i need to do this:

So of course the if selection doesnt work, but how can i do that? I already tryed this:
DataRowView drv = (DataRowView)e.Item.DataItem; if (drv.Row.Table.Columns.Contains("MerkID"))
But that doenst work because he cant convert it to a datarowview because its a linq class.So what to do? Right now i use a try and catch, but there are better solutions i guess...
