Forms Data Controls :: How To Refresh The Dropdown List In The Details View After The Gridview Item Has Been Deleted

I have a dropdown list within a details view that allows me to set 1 or many categories to a perticular record(in this case a photo). The select command in this case only displays those catetegories that are not already attached to the selected photo.
all works well and as you select a category and add it to the database the category is removed from the dropdown list and is added to a gridview which shows all categories that photo is stored with.
My Problem is that when i delete the category from the gridview the dropdown list does not delete with said deleted item unless i do a "click in URL bar and press enter" to totally refresh the page.....
how to refresh the dropdown list in the details view after the gridview item has been deleted?

'm using a textbox to get the first 5 letters of the name.
An sqldatasource then finds the people who have names > than the five letters and picks up their ID numbers as well as their names.
After that I use a second sqldatasource to get one individual from that dropdownlist's persons name and id number and then using a detailsview I display that person.
Well both sqldatasouces work fine but it just does not pass the ID number when I debug it.

I have created a Details View and set some of the fields to read only. I have added the edit command which is allowing me to edit all of the fields that are not set to read only but when I press the update button all the infomation stored in the readomly fields gets deleted and just show up as blank is there a way to stop them from getting deleted.

I have a gridview and which contain checkbox field too.If the checkbox is clicked and then delete button click, relevent record is deleted.This delete function is working properly.

I have used gridview item template , which has two dropdown list. The first dropdown list is binded from database to the dropdown list. I have using the below code , to show the select message in dropdown list before selecting any item from dropdown list. In first row its show me --Select-- message and my vaues.. if i select some value form dropdownlist and click add new button it will create a new row dynamic then in previous row again it come back --Select-- message. on going to second row. I have a Drop Down List, a GridView and a DetailsView. The Gridview is the master, the details is the records detail view. When we edit a record and click the update button, I want the page to refresh the gridview and detailsview. Right now after clicking the update, nothing happens, it just updates the current details record.

in one of the text fields I want to limit what the user can insert to a set of key words. So the obvious thing to do is to present the User with a drop down box to select a key word.
So I have converted the text field into a template and I thought I could replace the <InsertItemTemplate> in the details view with the drop down box.
Well it looks like what I want but when I INSERT the data that field is not inserted into the database.
So I guess I need to Bind the Drop Down somehow to the Insert - How do I do that ?

I have on a page a gridview that can be filtered with one text box. I set up the gridview to show select and wanted to then connect a details view so that when you selected a row the entire details would show up. When I run it I get this error. Data keys must be specified on GridView 'GridView1' before the selected data keys can be retrieved. Use the DataKeyNames property to specify data keys.

I have 3 drop downs in a details view (populated from a gridview) during insert mode.
Dropdown 1
Dropdown 2 --> Based on drop down one
Dropdown 3 --> Based on drop down two
I am curious of how to handle the autopostback to update 2 and 3 since they are part of the detailsview, there isn't a selected_index_changed event.
I am ok with adding items to them on page load, just not for cascading of them...

I have a databound FormView with a dropdown list of categories. All works as expected, but I want to provide the facility for the user to add a new category to the list and I can't find an elegant way to do it. My current approach is to have a simple modal popup (Ajax toolkit) with a FormView (bound to the Categories table). That successfully inserts the new row, but it doesn't show in the dropdown so it can't be selected. I can force a refresh by calling formview.DataBind() in a suitable event handler, but that of course moves the formview off the selected record and loses any changes the user may have made.
Is there a convenient way (perhaps using AJAX, avoiding a postback entirely) to update the Categories table and refresh the dropdown without moving off of the current FormView's record? I feel sure this
must be a frequent and basic requirement, but I've not found any mention of how to implement it.

I want to access a dropdown control value of each list item as soon as it is created. I tried with ItemCreated and ItemDataBound events but I am getting null contro when I try to access control as shown below:

i have a dropdown list in edit mode and read only mode. If users upload pictures, i want them to chose a category for the uploaded pics and display it in a gridview as below.(See Picture below). When i include "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" in edit and item template mode, i get this error "'PictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value "
When i removed the "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" from edit and item template, i get the result on the pic below(screenshot). If u can see the pic below the category is not selected, it just display the -- No Category -- even when i chose a category for the pic. I have a vb.net page that has a editable detailsview. When a user wants to erase the data for a field, they highlight the data, and delete/backspace over it, and click update. However, the original data is still saved. If they are replacing the current data with new data, that works fine and updates/saves correctly. This problem only happens when the current data needs to be removed.

I've a dropdown list for departments (engineering, bio, chemistry,physics etc.) when somebody choose the departments from the dropdown list, it displays the opening closing time(hours) in a detailsview controls.
I have separate homepage for these departments ( these are the static html pages and no way to send querystring value) and I want to link the hours for each department from the departmental homepage.
When I choose the department from the DDL, everytime it's the same URL.
How can I solve the problem So that I can point the respective hours from the respective departments ?

I am using list view to display the the data but i am getting an error like An item placeholder must be specified on ListView 'ListView1'. Specify an item placeholder by setting a control's ID property to "itemPlaceholder". The item placeholder control must also specify runat="server.Even i have specified the itemplaceholder id but no use still same error.

I have a detailsview which includes a drop down list bound to an array. However, when I click on the cancel button the dropdownlist values disappear. I have tried to solve the problem by rebinding the values back into list on the cancel command event, but this has made no difference. Does anyone know how to solve this?

I am using a listview to show multiple labels with Book names and price.I have included a dropdown list in the listview. On index change of dropdown list price of book is changes.
I am using UpdatePanel to avoid post back. I hav placed "Loading.." image in ProgressControl.
But when i use dropdown list to change price then "Loading.." image is shown on all the rows of list view . but im just changing it on first row but image shows on all the rows.
