I'm working on the admin tool and am using DetailsView to edit the records (.net 2.0). In the screenshot below, the left is the GridView, and the right is the DetailsView. When a user clicks "Select" in the GridView, I am trying to display the assigned Sectors stored in the database via a checkboxlist (activities can have multiple sectors). This way, the Admin user could just uncheck/check what sectors they want to change. Unfortunately, I can only get the first sector that's stored database to show up.
Is it possible for the Checkboxlist control to allow for more than one box to be checked at the same time? If so, do I need to create a custom funcion (via looping) in order to populate the checkboxlist accordingly? I've ran into 3 articles so far that imply that, but can't get the For Each to work for my situation:

I want to insert data in sql server from sheet within excelsheet ,there are three sheets in the file which i want to upload in three different tables,currently i am doing by selecting an individual sheet and the table to upload thus doing it three times for three sheets can i do it in one go,like passing all the sheets to a function or something like that or how can i do it in a better way and also i cannot directly upload sheet into table as i have to map one column of excel to different table of database to get its value like i need statecode but statename is provided in the sheet so i map statecode to statename in a staging table and then i upload the data...
View 1 RepliesI have requiremet like in checkboxlist displaying all country names from database. The first item is 'All Countries' and country names will start from second item. So, when user click on All All Countries checkbox, all the remaing items should be uncheck and when user click on of the country checkbox then 'All Countries' should be uncheck like that. I googled sometime but got the articles which are explaning with a separate checkbox for check/uncheck items in checkboxlist. I don't want a separate checkbox......the All Countries checkbox should be first item of the checkboxlist.

View 5 RepliesI am using CreateUserWizard control where I collect personal information from the user on the first step (ie. name, address, tel, mobile etc) then on the second step I collect information for membership service (ie. user name, password, email etc). When user clicks Create button, information is sent to two different tables in the same database. Everything works fine but one.
In the first step where I collect personal information, I also collect details about Interest which is a CheckBoxList (CheckBoxList is getting values from Interests table: 1-White, 2-Green, 3-Brown, 4-Maroon, 5-Yellow).
What I want to do is, when client selects his itnerest categories and clicks Create button, to send selected values from CheckBoxList into the third table called Categories. I want values to be registered into the CatCode column in Interests table as comma delimited. For example: if client selected "White", "Green" and "Yellow", appropriate values for those interests (such as 1, 3, 5) to be registered under Categories table CatCode column (like: 1,3,5).

I have two ListBoxes. I can move items from one list box to the other. I have an Insertcommand for inserting added values from the "ActivePrograms" list box to a db.
my problem is that it inserts only one item when sometimes the user added multiple items.
how do I insert all existing items from "ActivePrograms" list box?:
second issue: how do I make sure the insert command go through the list of items in the listbox and makes sure these rows does mot already exsited in the db? in other words insert only NEW values for that 'Id' value

I have a DDL bound to a sqlDataSource, and I want to insert an item in the first position. I tried using this code in the onDatabound event:

But when I load the page, the item "None" is inserted twice at the beginning of the DDL? So I see something like:

I am working on a web app for an online photo album. It is the last project in Scott Mitchell's book: "ASP.Net 2.0 in 24 hours".
I am creating a page where users can enter new photo images. The functionality for uploading an image will come later. I am working on just inserting a new row into the Pictures table with an optional category, a required title and a required description.
I am getting an error when I try to insert a new row.

The Categories are user-specific. I am getting the correct values retrieved.

There are two pretty simple database tables involved here.
NOTE: The CategoryID and PIctureID are both autoincrement integer columns.

The page uses a DetailsView that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Pictures table. (The DetailsView's Default Mode property is set to "Insert". The "Enable Inserting" checkbox is also checked.)
The dropdown list uses a dropdown control that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Categories table.
When the "Insert" button is clicked the CategoryID value associated with selected (Category) Name on the dropdown list will be used along with the Title and Description values to insert a row in to the Pictures table. (If no Category value is selected, then a null value will be used for the CategoryID. This is OK because the CategoryID column in the Pictures table allows nulls.)
My problem is that I am getting this error:
Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Pictures' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.
(FYI: I have the full version of both Visual Studio and SQL Server.)
