I have a listview that is bound to a table. I want to select a record from the listview and that record display in the detailvew from which I can edit. How do you bind these two controls so the detailview uses the records selected in the listview?

I have connected listview by using datasourceid that means by using "sqldatasource1" now i want to change value of listview at run time according to search so for that i am using datasource at codebehind. but it give an errorÂ
"listview have already bind with datasourceid you can not bind it with datasource"
what should i do for solving my requirement.

I have designed a database and defined three stored procedures for one of my tables. (one procedure each for Select, Insert & Update). The stored procedures use parameters.
My problem is with the "Define Parameters" dialog box of the SqlDataSource- Configure Data Source procedure.
Specifically, I'm not sure how to use the "Parameter Source" drop down box.
The "Parameters" box on the left correctly lists all of the columns in my stored procedure.
However, when I choose "Control" in the drop down box, the next dialog box asks for the ControlID.
But I want to use either the ListView or the DetailsView and I thought that these two controls somehow "read" the data source and sort of configure themselves.
In a nutshell, I can't find any way to "point" to either the ListView or the DetailsView.
I'm left with the impression that by asking for a "ControlID" for each parameter, the system seems to expect that I have already defined the "to be bound" controls before I can use the stored procedure.
So I'm wondering if it is the case that ListView and DetailsView don't work with stored procedures. True or False? Or is there some way of making this happen?
I have a slight issue I awas trying to fix for 2-3 days, but nothing I try works.
The scenario:
DetailsView control in edit mode, I pass parameters to the SqlDataSourceProducts (edit.aspx?id=2) and the data source selects the appropriate data and fills in the DetailsView form.
Except two drop down lists. These two DDLs (DDL2 and DDL3) are dependent on the previous DDL (DDL1) in the DetailsView.
when the selected value of the DDL1 changes, DDL2 and 3 change their lists and get bound to the database.
The problem is: when I edit something from the database, DDL2 and 3 appear empty and when I update any other field and leave these, they get blanked in the database.
My goal is to set the selected value of DDL2 and 3 to the values in the database WHERE ID = QueryStringField="id".
I can go for not binding the data unless the field is changed, but does not sound professional and user friendly.

i dont have datasource contrl and any sqlqueries.
when ever i open the page detailsview control statitically should display some values in the textboxes.
then i will insert some values threw businesslogic.

I don't want to use reflection, I want to assign it in the ItemDataBound event of my listview. I've done this before, but with datatables. The code will be something like DataRow dr = (e.item.DataItem as DataRowView).Row. You can then access specific columns with
dr["ColumnNamehere"].ToString().
But how do you do this with MembershipUserCollection?

I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

I try it with using UpdatePanel, but method DataBind returns error "Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.".

I am trying to arrange the information from a SQL record into a 3 column by 3 row table to fit the form presentation that I want. I have placed on the page 3X3 table and then tried to place a detailsview in the first cell for the first picture called P1dv.

But I´m trying to do that programmatically, not with the sqldatasource. So I wrote the method that binds data to Detailsview and I call it in the page_load. The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.
