I am using Visual Web Developer (VWD)and I dragged in i.e created a Gridview. In the codebehind of the page, I will like to declare an sqldatasource and get data from a database using the sqldatasource and then bind the sqldatasource to the Gridview. PS: I know how to drag-in an sqldatasource and attach it to the gridview using VWD but this time, I want to do this declaratively in the codebehind.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Put Tooltip In Dropdownlist Bind With Sqldatasource

Mar 4, 2010

I have a dropdownlist that's being populated from a SQL datasource. I would also like to have a tooltip for each dropdownlist list item on mouse over. I found the example below which adds a title attribute for each list item using the listitem text as a tooltip but I want to make the title/tooltip value another field in the database. In other words,

item.Attributes.Add("title", someotherdatabasefield);

The end result would be something like this where the text for 'title' comes from the database

<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True">
<asp:ListItem Text="CompanyName1" Value="1" title="a really great company" />
<asp:ListItem Text="CompanyName2" Value="2" title="a really bad company" />

Forms Data Controls :: Unable To Set Text Of Label After Rebinding SQLDataSource

Jan 30, 2011

I have a text box in a FormView that I use to display the return value from the stored procedure that I'm using to maintain the data. For assorted reasons, I'm not able to use the built in ability of the FormView to manipulate the data.

I have the following code at the end of the procedure that calls the stored procedure. It is a snippet that omits the bulk of the procedure.

[Code]....

As is, the label text is updated with the message. However, when I uncomment out the code that manipulates the SQL Data Source and rebinds the FormView, the label text is NOT updated. I can't figure out why it craps out.

1) AdvisoryMessageText is declared at the class level for the code behind, so it should be retaining the value across all of the procedures as their caloled.

2) TextBoxAdvisoryMessage is contained within the FormView EditTemplate.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Bind To Label From Stored Procedure

Aug 4, 2010

I have gone through all of the forums and couldn't find an answer to my problem, which is:: I need to bind a result from a stored procedure to a label. What I have done so far is to try to use <%# Bind(SP_Result_FIeld_Name)#> and that does nothing. I also tried to assign the results to a string in the code behind, all that did was put the words "TTLCount" in my label. Part of the problem might be that it is pulling from a temp table and the field I'm pulling has an assigned name ( Count(*) as TTLCount)... The rest of my SP is returning to a gridview which works fine. I just need to display the total number returned and the total number of returned that have email addresses. Here is what I have so far::

Forms Data Controls :: Adding Hyperlink Control To Listview To Link To Files / Retrieving Filename From SQLdatasource

Dec 19, 2010

I have created a asp.net webpage for viewing daily downloaded newspaper, saved as a pdf file in a selected folder (~/NEWS/{0}) within the web root directory. Also i have a SQL datasource linked, where the news table has two columns viz: date and filename.

I want to create a tiled listview where the date text is visible on the hyperlink. on clicking the hyperlink, the file name is retreived for the corresponding date and the pdf file opens in a fresh page.

I have tried going to the item template in listview and replacing the label control with a hyperlink control, but then not able to successfully proceed ahead.

Forms Data Controls :: Bind GetAllUsers To ListView With ItemDataBound

Sep 13, 2010

I am using a listview to which I want to bind the MembershipUserCollection which you get from GetAllUsers(). I don't want to use reflection, I want to assign it in the ItemDataBound event of my listview. I've done this before, but with datatables. The code will be something like DataRow dr = (e.item.DataItem as DataRowView).Row. You can then access specific columns with

dr["ColumnNamehere"].ToString().

But how do you do this with MembershipUserCollection?
