Forms Data Controls :: Retrieve A Text In Specific Cell Of Gridview On Onrowcreated Event?
Jun 9, 2010
I have a gridview which i bind to DataView. I need to manipulate text on cell[2] of each row. I was wondering if i could do it in the OnRowCreated event? cell[0] in asp looks like this
<asp:ButtonField DataTextField = "header" CommandName="select" HeaderText="Overskrift"/>
This doesnt work. test = null
protected void onrowcreated(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
TableCellCollection cells = e.Row.Cells;
string test = cells[2].Text;
}

I am using VB and trying to get the first value of the cell of a gridview. The gridview is returning a header and 1 value.
In the code behind I have used the below, but the textbox is showing " ". It is not populating the first cell of the gridview databind.
Protected
Sub GridView3_RowDataBound(ByVal
sender As
Object,
ByVal e
As
GridViewRowEventArgs)If
(Not (e.Row.DataItem)
Is
Nothing)
Then
' Set the capacity label text
TextBoxTest.Text = e.Row.Cells(1).Text
End
If
End

I have a situation where i need to update my Dropdownlist templatefield inside a GridView....but only for a specific cell. I have seen codes like this to loop through the whole GridView and update every rows in a specific column, but how do i do it if i only want to update one specific cell ? (If i know the index information of the cell, for example, I know i want to update the dropdownlist on Column 3 and Row 2)
foreach (GridViewRow row in GridView1.Rows)
{
if (row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
this.WorkTypeDDL = ((DropDownList)row.FindControl("WorkTypeList"));
this.WorkTypeDDL.DataSource = AL;
this.WorkTypeDDL.DataBind();
//more codes blah blah blah//
}
}

I am banging my head with gridview at the moment. There's a problem I just can't get my head around. I'd be very greatful for any advice given. I have a function that creates a DataTable with three columns and four rows. In each of the cells I set the text to a random number through RowDataBound event. I would like to just make the cell clickable and have a code-behind function that gets the position of the cell (column, row) and the value of the cell when the user clicks it.

I generate dynamic grids based on a count value returned from some DB tables. the code for it goes like this : I give and Id to each grid that is generated.
if (myDataList1.Count >= 1)
{
for (int i = 0; i < myDataList1.Count; i++)
{
//retrieving the exact i count from pageload
ViewState.Add("newCount", i);
//creating the dynamic grid with its corresponding gridview properties.
grvDynamic = new GridView();
grvDynamic.ID = "GridView" + (i+3);
grvDynamic.AutoGenerateColumns = false;
grvDynamic.RowCreated += GridViewRowCreated;
grvDynamic.RowDataBound += grvDynamic_RowDataBound;
//adding bound field columns to retrieve data from stored proc
BoundField metric = new BoundField();
metric.HeaderText = "Goal ";
metric.DataField = "metric";
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(metric);
BoundField mtd = new BoundField();
mtd.HeaderText = "MTD";
mtd.DataField = "value_MTD";
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(mtd);
BoundField goal = new BoundField();
goal.HeaderText = "Tier Level Achieved";
goal.DataField = "value_goal";
goal.HeaderStyle.Width = Unit.Percentage(10);
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(goal);
BoundField you1 = new BoundField();
you1.HeaderText = "Month End";
you1.DataField = "firstLevel_you";
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(you1);
BoundField you2 = new BoundField();
you2.HeaderText = "Month End";
you2.DataField = "secondLevel_you";
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(you2);
ButtonField singleClick = new ButtonField();
singleClick.CommandName = "clickHyperlink";
singleClick.Visible = false;
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(singleClick);
BoundField metricId = new BoundField();
metricId.HeaderText = "Metric Id";
metricId.DataField = "metricID";
metricId.Visible = true;
grvDynamic.Columns.Add(metricId);
//binding the gridview to data.
grvDynamic.DataSource = data;
grvDynamic.DataBind();
grvDynamic.Columns[5].Visible = false;
}
}
protected void grvDynamic_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
//this basically gets the metric Id's of rows with the ishyperlink flag set to 'Y'. I need to make these particular cells clickable var isClickable = (from md in myDataList3 where md.IsHyperLinkFlag == 'Y' &&
md.value_MTD != null select md.metricID).ToList();
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
// Get reference to button field in the gridview.
LinkButton _singleClickButton = (LinkButton)e.Row.Cells[5].Controls[0];
if (isClickable.Contains(Convert.ToInt32(e.Row.Cells[6].Text)))
{
e.Row.Cells[1].Style["cursor"] = "hand";
e.Row.Cells[1].Style["color"] = "blue";
e.Row.Cells[1].Style["textdecoration"] = "Underline";
e.Row.Cells[1].Attributes.Add("onClick", "window.location ='../HeaderPages/page2.aspx' ");
}
}
}
This code works perfectly fine , depending on the ishyperlink flag in the database...specific cells in the grid are made clickable and then redirected to page2.aspx My Issue: I need to capture which specific cell in which specific grid the user has clicked. store some information in sessions based on the cell clicked and use that information in page2.aspx.

I have the following piece of code which I was hoping would result in an error message being displayed if an incorrect date format was input rather than an website error page saying "The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime."
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="DateCompleted" SortExpression="DateCompleted"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("DateCompleted") %>'> </asp:TextBox> <asp:CompareValidator ID="CompareValidator" ValidationGroup="GridView1" ControlToValidate="TextBox2" errormessage="Invalid Date" Display="Dynamic" Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" runat="Server" /> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("DateCompleted") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField>

I have a GridView where one of the colums has lots of text. Too much text to display because each rows then is almost half screensize each. Is there a way to just display the first words, and then have a function, perhaps mouse over to wiew the whole text? Tooltip maybe?

I have a gridview that is being databound by an SQLdatasource and on RowDataBound i am doing a calculation and then setting
e.Row.cells(17).text = Result
However, when I go to sort it on the website it sorts it based off the previous values.Cell(17) from the datasource reads in all 1's. The numbers I change it to range from 0 to 15. So when I click sort nothing changes because it sees it as all 1's.How can i make the gridivew sort off the changed text values?

Using Visual Studio 2008 (but have VWD 2010 available). Desire is populate a cell from a number of database items that have been concatenated together. Exampler would be Smith, John, 2010, Going After an Ideal Solution, 500 pages. Gridview allows me to set the cell format, but for the entire cell. I would like to present this as a mixture.

I know there are a number of posts along this topic, but everything I find seems to not have a final solution or else I'm just not getting what the solution is. I have a simple GridView with a ButtonField and a BoundField. I'm having the same problem most of the other posts seem to have; I can retrieve the BoundField value easy enough in the RowCommand subroutine, but I can't figure out how to get the value of the ButtonField. Here is the code I'm trying to use:
[Code]....
sAddr is being set to the correct address value, but sName is set to an empty string no matter what I try. The GridView HTML all works correctly, including showing the names from my bound data table on the button text. I can use to retrieve the ButtonField text value?

I am wondering what is the best way to do this. Here is my observation:
1. If a GridView is assigned a datasource at design time, the header row's text can be retrieved with ((DataControlField)GridView.Columns[index]).HeaderText.
2. If a GridView is assigned a datasource at run time by code-behind, the header row's text can be retrieved with GridView.HeaderRow.Cells[index].Text.
Is there a way to do it without trying one, if not working, then the other of the aforementioned methods.

I have a dropdownlist("ddlTemplate") control and a gridview("gvPlanning") control with 1 BoundField column, 1 TemplateField column and remaining columns will be generated dynamically from database.In TemplateFiled Column i have 3 image buttons viz: Edit, update and cancel.Gridview will be populated based on the selecteditem of dropdownlist.
if i click on edit imagebutton, i need to add textboxes dynamically in all the columns of that row except first 2 column. And if i click on Update imagebutton i need to retrieve the textbox values.we can add template field column for textboxes also, but why i am sticking to this method is.. the number of columns changes depending on the selecteditem from the dropdownlist. Eg: If i select india from dropdownlist the number of columns in the gridview would be 4 and if i select UK from dropdownlist the number of columns would be 9 likewise.

I have a gridview that contains columns of electrical specification (value, resistance, etc.). The rows are populated with archival data from previous versions of th same part (rev A, rev B, etc.).
The question is: is there any way for me to review each row and set the font color to red if the value is different from the cell below, or above? This would highlight where changes were made to each individual revision of a part from the previous version.
