I'm using listview with datapager.
when I'm trying to change the page if an item is in edit mode, the item with same row number in other page is opening in edit mode.
In my edit template I want a dropdownlist containing a list of possible customers. The list is populated from a database table containing existing customers. If the main record has customer "XYZ", then I want that customer to be the default in the dropdown. I'm using VS 2008 and C# My markup for the dropdownlist is currently:

The dropdownlist is populated but the problem is it shows the first customer in the list. I don't want the user to have to rechoose customer if that is not what they are changing.
I have a ListView Which displays Customer, product, price, Quantity and comments from database.The User can either edit it or Insert new items. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. I use click handler to pop up the windows.i'm not able to do with listview Please help to give a solution to it.How else can i add an image icon and click it and get the values back to the textboxes?i will post what i'm doing without listview first and then the part of the relavant code of Listview.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

I am using entity framework. My model has entity tblGameInfo where in navigation properties are associations called tblPlayer1 and tblPlayer2 which links to entity tblPlayer. I have listview on my page where I want to show game info with players names. I have found that in of listview I should have e.g. one of those:

But it does not work. I got nothing displayed in a listview. I have tried many different options but cannot find working one. Probably is some simple mistake but I am new to asp.net and cannot find it. Second problem with this is editing. In edit template there is dropdownlist with all players.

How do I databind it? It is not allowed to bind and change properties? It writes me that element does not exist on a list of elements.
I have a gridview that I want to show a dropdownlist (for, let's say, column1) when it has a certain value, and I want to change that same column into a label when it has a certain value. Is this possible with gridview? if so, how?

I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.
View 8 RepliesI have a grid view with edit and save buttons when I click on edit it is letting me edit it and if I click on save it is lettingme save the data that I have edited.
The thing is after save is done it is showing the data in edit mode i.e <edit item template > mode I am still seeing the textboxes if I refresh the page then I am seeing it normally.
How can I stop the gridview to show edit mode after the save is done?
I have a "report" the users can run it basically creates a simple gridview. In the gridview the user can click on a claim ID. The claim id is then passed via url querystring to a claim management page. The claim management page uses a listview to display the various claims and allow users to edit them. I want to use the claim id passed in the url to locate the listview row to open in edit mode, so the user can make changes / alterations to the claim.

I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:

which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:

This results in a Cancel even if there are no validation errors on the InsertItemTemplate because the Page.Validate() seems to be causing the InsertItemTemplate to think its fields should be filled out also.

All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?
When I change my insert update and delete buttons to template field....they do not work properly anymore. I get a "Cannot insert a Null Value into...blah blah blah, error.

View 2 RepliesI have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.

There is a page in my project named Messages.aspx that shows the messages received [but obviously], using the ListView control.
I want that the user should be able to see the body of the message on the same page [Messages.aspx] just by clicking the subject of the message, which is ofcourse a link.[Messages.aspx?msg_id=some_id]. Hence the user would actually reload the same page to read the contents of the message.
Now what I want is that I should be able to write some code that would change the <LayoutTemplate> and the <ItemTemplate> of the listview during the runtime. [in the page_load event of course]

I have a aspx where i have thumbails of pictures in listview, once i click on a picture, picture shows up as big next to list view. Now what i want to do is, have a red color border around the thumbail of picture which is show big at the center. check the Picture I just want to change the CSS class of the image selected in the listview. The 'if' condition is true, and the errorLabel.Visible = true etc. executes, but the label remains invisible on the rendered screen.
I've got a details view control on a page. One of the columns, from the database table, is a bit field. It is not nullable, and that's the way it has to be. Also, in most cases, when inserting data, it will be true (1) be default. I've found in testing, when inserting data, that it was false, for some reason. So, I changed the column to a template field and went to the InsertItemTemplate for that column, and changed the checkbox Checked property to True, instead of the default False. However, it has really screwed up the page because now it won't save anything at all! When I try saving something using the details view, it does show the checkbox as being checked, but man, once I try saving it I get an error message back from the database saying that the column doesn't allow for nulls.
Huh??? How in heck can the column on the page have a value (it is checked), but when it goes to save something it fails? Furthermore, before I converted this field to a template field, it worked perfectly. I tested several other insertions, and they all worked. But when I converted it to a template field, it stopped working? What's that about? I even tried setting the default value for the Checked property of the checkbox back to False, but that still doesn't work, it still wants to pass in a null. What's going on here? Why is it that converting a field to a template field, which was working perfectly fine before I made the convension, stop it from working at all?
How to display the selected value of a dropdownlist in header taemplate of a gridview? As i change the dropdownlist's value, it should also change in the gridview. i have taken a label in the gridview's header template named "lbl_mnth" my dropdownlist's id is "ddl_mnth".
