How To Get Error Messages On Dynamic Data Edit Page Template

I have the following markup at the end of my Edit page template in a Dynamic Data project:

And I have the following code in the code=behind for the template:

The 'if' condition is true, and the errorLabel.Visible = true etc. executes, but the label remains invisible on the rendered screen.

I have the this current design. I use a web service/jquery perform client-side validation and to return 1 of 4 integers. At present I store it in a hidden field but it could be passed directly. I then deploy4 validators that when validated, validate the integer and trigger a custom error message. The ideal scenario I would like to be able to do this with one validator and switch the error message accordingly. On the server side the code could look like this:

As you can see my error messages are held as strings elsewhere which I reference for continuity throughout the project. unformtunately I don't know how to achieve this client-side by calling a javascript function. Sure I could hard code the messages in the javascript file as well, but this would mean that they were held in two places and suseptable to error. It may be an option to return an error message in the web service rather than an integer and trigger if it is blank.

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

asp.net with vb. I thought this would be easy but have been reading for an hour and not found out how to simply repost a page where form data has been entered and return the page with some error messages about what was entered. I want to return the page with all input controls with the data just as the user entered them before submitting. the error messages are labels that were blank when the page is first loaded. preferably the page returns focused to the topmost error error message. if that can't be done I would populate some label at the top of the page with something to the effect that 'errors were found, scroll down to see the errors'

For error messages, validation faults etc you have
ModelState.AddErrorMessage("Fool!");
But, where do you put success responses like "You successfully transfered alot of money to your ex." + "Your balance is now zero". I still want to set it at the controller level and preferably in key-value way, the same way as errormessages but without invalidating the modelstate.

Now issue is that when i click on edit link of grid Template of grid will change to edit template but tab automatically goes to first tab. i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

In my app i have a master page that all content pages use. I would like to have a centralized area inside my master page that would handle displaying of error messages. So on my master page I would have the following this is where the content goes So when I would submit a content page, placeholder named "ErrorPlaceHolder" would be found and error would be displayed in the pages "Pre Render" event..I guess. How would I do that?

I have a gridview with a dropdown list in the EditTemplate.This dropdown will get bound to a list object and the default selected value is picked based on the value of the ItemTemplate which is a Label.However I cant get reference to this ddl. Which event shoud I try.and is there any fault in using Row.FindControl("");

I have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.

In my edit template I want a dropdownlist containing a list of possible customers. The list is populated from a database table containing existing customers. If the main record has customer "XYZ", then I want that customer to be the default in the dropdown. I'm using VS 2008 and C# My markup for the dropdownlist is currently:

The dropdownlist is populated but the problem is it shows the first customer in the list. I don't want the user to have to rechoose customer if that is not what they are changing.

i have a dropdown list in edit mode and read only mode. If users upload pictures, i want them to chose a category for the uploaded pics and display it in a gridview as below.(See Picture below). When i include "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" in edit and item template mode, i get this error "'PictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value "
When i removed the "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" from edit and item template, i get the result on the pic below(screenshot). If u can see the pic below the category is not selected, it just display the -- No Category -- even when i chose a category for the pic. I want when a pic is uploaded and i category chosen, to display on the gridview. The code for the error message is below:

I'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?
The error: Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.

I keep getting a null reference when I try to access a listbox inside the EditItemTemplate of a formview. I check the mode before accessing the control (Formview1.CurrentMode) to make sure it is in edit mode and even set it manually to edit mode again! But formview1.findcontrol("blah") returns null. Formview1.EditItemTemplate does not have a FindControl method, not sure what else to try.

I have a ListView Which displays Customer, product, price, Quantity and comments from database.The User can either edit it or Insert new items. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. I use click handler to pop up the windows.i'm not able to do with listview Please help to give a solution to it.How else can i add an image icon and click it and get the values back to the textboxes?i will post what i'm doing without listview first and then the part of the relavant code of Listview.

I am trying to bind dropdownlist in Gridview under EditItemTemplate under RowBound event. But it gives me blank rows in the drop down list.Here is my DesignÂ

I am trying to target a control in a Detailsview in my codebehind, however I am getting an error "Name "control" is not declared" for example, i have a FileUpload field in the edit template of the detailsview, which I am trying to access as
FileField.PostedFile.SaveAs("directory")
I also tried adding a reference to the Detailsview id such as DetailsView1.FileField.PostedFile.SaveAs("directory")

I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.
