Forms Data Controls :: Trying To Have A User Add New Setup Values?
Mar 17, 2010
I am creating a new setup page where I am trying to have a user add new setup values. These values have a unique identifier id (like HEAD01, HEAD02 and so forth - which happens to be the primary key in that record) which I have to generate using code.
Here I am trying to use a detailsview object with the New/Update/Delete option.
Here if the user Chooses to Add a new value, I need to determine the next unique identifier for this new value to be added (say HEAD16) by looking at the last generated number in that table and have this new value added in the database. The user should not be able to give this primary key value manually it should be autogenerated by code.
I am using SQLDataSource with Detailsview to add update values.

I'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

I'd made a WebUserControl called Matrix, this UC inherits from the Gridview control. The Matrix User Control has 9 properties, which of 3 properties are the DataSources DataTables). The 3 DataSources are the RowSource, ColumnSource and DataSource. Together they form an gridview with labels (name of column) at the header of each column, a abel (name of row) at each first cell of a row and rest of the cells on each row are checkboxes. This forms a kind of Matrix, that's why I named it so.
I drag the Matrix User Control on a new .aspx page, for example Index.aspx. In the Page_Load event I set the 3 DataSources and DataBind the Matrix Control. Then the Matrix is build up correctly. The user can now edit the gridview by checking or unchecking the checkboxes. I also have a 'Save' button on the page which has an ID 'cmdSave' to save the changes. What I wanna do is: I want to have a Method within the User Control which gives me back a list of checkboxes which are checked. But when the OnClick event of the cmdSave button is fired, the data of the User Control is null/empty. And how do I get the changedHow can I fix this and build a method which gives me a list of checked checkboxes? If not everything is explained clearcly,

I have EntityDataSource for DetailsView which is in Edit mode by default (showin Update, Cancel link buttons).
This datasource also has foreign key called PecID. If I change the value in textbox bound to PecID, it works fine.
Entering IDs is not very user friendly, so I add dropdownlist and new datasource.
When I select new value from dropDownList and press update the DropDownList's selection is restored to original (previous) value.
Other values in textboxes are saved as expected.
After few hours of trying to figure out what is going on, I got lucky. I figure out that it is important the order of TextBox and DropDownList in field template.
This is the working order (textbox before DropDownList)

This one doesn't work [Code]....

Requirements call for the ability to save search values so that they can select them at later times to return the results without having to re-enter the values. They have the ability to search on 4 different types of data (Date, Time and Lat/Long), so they would like to capture what was entered and ONLY if they chose to save those values, it will be saved and next time they login, if they are searching, they can pick an old search and submit it again.
Im thinking that i add a checkbox next to each button, if they check it, it saves the data into a table with there values and username. Next time they login and go tothe search page, if there are any records for them in the table, i present them with a link that displays all the values stored and if they select one, it will run the search again and present them with the results. does that sound like the right way to handle this request?

I have a page for a client that currently is setup to display a gridview for each subcategory. They recently added a new subcategory and they were wondering why it wasnt showing up on the page. Well the way i have it setup, i have to create the gridview adn datasource for the new subcategory.
Is there a way to setup the page to display a gridview view for each subcategory so if they decide to add another, i dont have to update the page with a new gridview adn configure it? I would like to be able to update what i have and provide a more flexible setup for them.
keeping i mind that each gridview would contain different result sets, is this possible? if so, what controls would i use?

I wanted to know if we can pass values from Parent page (in this case from Default.aspx page) to the user control and maintain those values on subsequent "Add/Load" of user control.
So in short, if I click the "Add" button it loads my "webusercontrol" and also I am able to pass my default.aspx dropdownlist value to this dynamically loaded user control and assign it to a "Label or Textbox" which resides in my "webusercontrol", now the problem is that the value doesn't persists! What I meant is , when I click "Add" button again the "webusercontrol" gets loaded again perfectly but now all my "Label's" in webusercontrol has the new selected value from the default.aspx dropdownlist.
So say for instance I have a Dropdownlist in Default.aspx page with Values "Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia" and initial value to be passed is "Apple", I click the "Add" button, now my "Label" inside webusercontrol has the value "Apple", perfect! Next when I click "Add" button again and select a different value to be passed this time say "BlackBerry" now I have 2 webusercontrol loaded on the page, so that means I have 2 "Labels" with different ID's, but now my first Label initially had the value "Apple" because that's what I had passed and now when I passed the value "Blackberry" both the labels of my webusercontrol has the value "BlackBerry" instead of one being "Apple" and another "BlackBerry"
Is there a way to resolve this issue? may be Dictionary List?

We are using membership and roles.. is there anyway to setup a user that cannot be deleted? We need to setup a default admin account and dont want it displayed in list of user to modify, or if it has to be displayed, it cant be deleted or edited thru the pages that is, if they need to, they can do it thru the website admin section to manage it.

I have a repeater that I have bound to a sql reader via my code behind page.
However I can't figure out how to populate the controls in my repeater in my code behind code.
At the moment I am having to specify the database field e.g productprice with the control in the .aspx page like this
<asp:Label ID="LabelUnitPrice" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("productprice") %>'></asp:Label>
I would rather specify fields in my code behind than embedding them in the .aspx page.
I also have a subtotal label control in my repeater that I would like to populate its text property by mutiplying two of the database values e.g productprice * unitprice shown in my repeater.
I need to do this in code behind, looping through the repeater. Any idea of how I can do this in C#?
